Expect a Kid-Friendly Hotel

Just got back from GBI, pleased with hotel. I read reviews prior saying how gross the rooms were and how rude the staff was. Had no problems. Staff was considerate, rooms were clean and were cleaned daily. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, mouthwash, soap and free Starbuck's coffee was provided. Don't go expecting a serene lobby. Popular hotel with families, though never had a noise problem in my room. For travelers wanting more quiet, a better gym and more luxurious surroundings, trot over to the Westin and Lanai suites. The rocking chairs at the manor house are great.

Top Local Tips for Freeport

Local Parade Each evening (at least on weekends) there is a parade of locals in festive garb that starts in the marketplace and heads over to the Isle of Capri casino. Think of a mini Mardi Gras parade without the 17 year old drunk girls flashing for beads... It's certainly more authentic and tasteful... Check it out - we ran into it around 8pm, I think.

Outside of your resort Dont bother going to Gold Rock Beach or anywhere on the East side to the Lucayan National Park. VERY long drive and not worth it at all. Paradise Cove is worth going to but the water was too cold for us at this time of the year. Don't bother going to International Bazaar. It was quite sad as most shops were closed or had moved to Gran Lucayan Marketplace.

Stick with Port Lucaya Marketplace We took a cab to the International Bazaar and Downtown and it is not worth the time or money. The Bazaar was severly affected by the hurricanes and is probably 20% occupied and downtown is just for locals to do grocery shopping and such.
