Great Resort!!!!!

Just got back from 3 days at Island seas. The resort is the perfect place for someone who wants to relax and enjoy Freeport. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms were nice and have all the amenities of home. The only downside I had was the food at the onsite restaurant was barely mediocre. I would reccomend bringing some of your own food from home or go to the grocery store on Island and purchase food and liquor. Otherwise it was perfect. I have read several reviews about high prices and would have to disagree. Obviously these people have never been to a resort before. I thought the prices were in line if not a little low. Also be aware there is a $15.00 per person pernight surcharge tacked on to your bill at the end. The staff was up front about this charge in the beginning. Have fun at Island seas..

Wonderful vacation

Returned from the Island Seas Resort on February 16, 2003. We rented the time-share from someone we knew. The resort was beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly, and we felt very comfortable and safe there. We sat through the timeshare presentation, lasted way longer than 90 minutes (more like 3 hours) but they were cordial when we declined to buy. Hey that's there job to sell. If you are going, I strongly recommend you bring some food with you (non-perisable), because food prices are very high. We did and were glad of it. We had a great time, and would not hesitate to go back!! Make sure to take advantage of the free shuttle bus to town, then you can take the public bus for $1.00 a person to anywhere else you want to go.

Good Resort, Location could be better

My husband and I and another couple just returned from a one week stay at this resort. We found the resort to be top notch, with a very friendly and helpful staff. There were plenty of activities, and the site has a great beach. Our room was great, and the maid service was good. One day, we had breakfast and had to leave quickly for a tour and didn't get the dishes washed. When we returned, the maids had done all our dishes, and started the dishwasher. As far as supplies, the rooms didn't really have great cookware, we had to use a dented frying pan. Paper towels were not provided. We got hit up right at check in to attend a salespitch, but we didn't go, and no one bothered us after that. We encountered a few problems, the first being that the location of this resort is pretty far from anything else, which at times is not always a bad thing! Just be advised that if you want to go anywhere after the last bus (around 7:00pm) you will have to pay a taxi, and taxis in the bahamas are very expensive! But if you sign up for the tours, most of them include transportation, which we found to be a good value. The other problem we found with this resort is that, while they have plenty of courtyard activities, i.e., shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping pong, swimming pool and hot tub, there appears to be no restriction as to how late at nite these activities are allowed. We had a room directly over the shuffleboard pit, and on the weekend, there were loud drunk people playing, making lots of noise at 1:00 am. We called down to the front desk, and the noise did end. I just think there ought to be a limit for how late these activities are allowed. The resort has a small grocery store on site, but it doesn't have a huge variety. There is not much difference in price for the food you can buy at the resort grocery store and the what you can buy at the local Winn-Dixie. The prices are high no matter where you go. The resort makes one grocery store run each day. I recommend doing that the first day. Even with high grocery prices it is still cheaper than eating at the resort restaurant. We did eat a couple of meals at the resort, and while some of it was over priced, most everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend the grilled conch served at the poolside bar and grill. It was wonderfull! I guess it depends on how much tolerance one has for the above problems. We had a great time at Island Seas, in spite of a few minor problems, which we were able to deal with pretty well. I would go back. The bahamas are beautiful, with beautiful people to match, and certainly worth going to for a visit. We look forward to our next trip

Fabulous vacation time!

October 2001 - My fiance and I enjoyed every day we spent on the island (6 days) and are already planning our trip back! We flew into Fort Lauderdale and took Discovery Cruises to Freeport. Wonderful. The resort was all we thought it would be. Everyone was friendly and helpful, our room was fabulous, the food and beverage services were great, the pool and hot tub very relaxing, the beach was postcard perfect, locals were awesome, and we had absolutely no problem with the timeshare presentation. We had a great breakfast and one-on-one conversation with one of their agents, but ultimately decided against buying a timeshare. No problem was encountered AT ALL. We were given our complimentary gift, and even got discounts on the activities that we wanted to enjoy on the island. The only drawback was the transportation cost with the cabs, but we know better next time to rent a car or take a bus. We will definitely be returning.

Great Place!

I stayed at the Island Seas in late January; the resort and units were beautiful, and the price was cheap for such an oceanfront location. The resort had a grocery buying service (all condos). My only dislike was the fact that it was probably as cheap to eat out (try Pisces at Port Lucaya!) as to eat in, as groceries were very expensive. But again, they import everything, so it will be more expensive. The beach was great, and (except to be approached once regarding a tour) I never had any problems with timeshare solicitations.

What started out to be a dream vacation turned into a not so pleasant experience. This resort was great until the timeshare presentation. What a joke!! What was supposed to last 90 minutes quickly turned into two hous. We were there for vacation, not for a horrible presentation. Upon attempting to leave, the presentor was very rude and demanding. We had to walk away and were not even offered our free gift for attending until we spoke to management. Even then, it was a struggle. After that moment, things were ackward as we did not feel comfortable staying there. The employees were rude from that point forward and what started as a dream soon took its course for the worst. It was also a disappointment to find the additional $60 per night surcharge tacked onto an already expensive room package. More disappointing was the unheated pool, the dirty beach, and the prices of things to purchase. We will not return to the Bahamas again. Our next vacation is going to be in Cancun!

Love the place, problems with timeshare

We have been to Island Seas Resort 3 times. We love the resort and most of the staff go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. I know very few places that have all wonderful staff. The food is more expensive than in the U.S. but it is expensive all over the island. The view is wonderful!!
However, we made the mistake of buying a timeshare. The salespeople flat out lied about alot of things. The only good thing about it is that we have not had any trouble getting to go when we want. I have heard people with timeshares complain that they cannot use it the week they want. So far this has not been the case. We are going back in April.

Good and Bad

Having never been in a tropical atmosphere, I was looking forward to my week in the Bahamas.
I thought the Island Seas was everything I expected. The on-site staff was excellent, but upon leaving the gates, I found the locals unfriendly, rude, and disrespectful, a complete antithesis of the ads for the Bahamas. The on site beach was beautiful, but again off site there was litter and trash strewn everywhere. I can't understand how such a beautiful place is so poorly maintained, (not the resort, but offsite).
The natural resources were beautiful, and I spent the week snorkeling and thouroughly enjoyed the stay with the exception of the locals and the litter.
Other reviewers complained of the lack of transportation, but I found that not to be the case. The busses ran every few minutes, and I think the others failed to realize that this is an island, and not midtown Manhatten.
I'm definitely going back soon.

Island Sea Resort was average

My wife and I found the resort to be good, but certainly not a 5 star resort. For the most part, the staff was pleasant, however they didn't go out of their way to provide great service. The food and alcoholic drinks at the resort restaurant were expensive, so we went to a local grocery store and purchased food items for breakfast and lunch. You can buy alcohol at one of the shopping markets which had many nice stores and a good selection of merchandise. Usually the evening meal was at one of the local restaurants which we found to be good and reasonably priced.

Getting around is a bit of a problem because you will need to take a taxi to go places since there are no shops or restaurants near the resort. You can sometimes work a deal with a taxi driver to take you places throughout your stay and they might be willing to do it for a fixed rate per head, per trip. Just call the driver ahead of time when you want to go somewhere. Also, the resort has a shuttle that runs at pre-determined times and will take you to one of the shopping markets. From the shopping market, you can take public transportation to other places if you don't mind a little inconvenience.

The beach at the resort would have been fine if the staff had kept it clean and free of litter. Perhaps they should consider grooming the beach in the morning. The beach staff that provided towels and lounge chairs were pleasant and accomodating.

Our room was nice and spacious with a balcony that faced the pool and a view of the beach. It seemed to be well maintained and nicely furnished. We found it was necessary to use the air conditioner at night to drown out the noise from the cleaning staff that would get an early start in the morning.

The resort staff will try to sell you a timeshare which is their business. Politely decline if you are not interested. We didn't find them to be too pushy.

I would say our experience was good and we would return, however they will need to improve prices and customer service to compete with other resorts such as one we like to go to in Cancun, Mexico.

My husband and I went to the Island Seas. We were not married at the time, and we were going to get married there are the hotel. Well we were treated very poorly, and they continued to raise the price of what our wedding would cost, until we finally decided to go else where on the island for our ceremony. We were told by the locals that what we experienced was common, and they were embarassed. Later when the hotel learned we cancled our wedding plans they treated us poorly. It got even worse when we refused to do a time share. we were treated like we were trash. i loved the location, not the service, and not the cost and tax of everything.. I will not be giving them anymore of my vacation money..

Top Local Tips for Freeport

British Rules Apply! There are Dune Buggy, Moped and Car rental agencies on the island, but renting is at your own risk! The laws and roadways are arranged for British style driving... (ON THE LEFT) Gas Prices are extremely high there as well!

Get to the grocery store and stock up on things Go to the local grocery and stock up on some things - they have full kitchen facilities available. I've read they have a shuttle to take you there - we rented a little car to get around. The fish fry on Wednesday and Friday is cool, but that's a ways away and you need a car. The bonfire trip is not worth the money, that was a bummer. Dinning out is expensive, my economic stimulus check went to the bahamans!

Bikini Bottom This is a great resturant with lots of selections and good seafood.
