Beautiful resort!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a very nice resort. We just returned and had a wonderful time. The rooms and grounds were very nice. It was in a good location. Had a nightclub and restaurant on the property. Nice pool. VERY nice staff. The resort looked new, as did the rooms. Great place. I would recommend it to anyone.

I went to this resort on October 10-13, 2003, this was a surprise birthday gift and the first time I ever traveled out of the US into International waters. This hotel was not all that great it didn't have a refrigerator which made keeping things cold out of the question, the single bed rooms were small it only had a full size bed, double bed rooms were much bigger. I didn't care for the food, the pool was okay, and the shuttle had a very strict schedule, the last shuttle back to the hotel from the beach was 5:45pm the only place to go around this area was the International Bazar and majority of the stores closed early. If you wanted towels for the beach you had to get to the front desk early or they might not have any available. I didn't see much of Freeport but Port Lucaya was very nice. Plan to go to Atlantis next time I'm in the Bahamas.

We just returned from the Island Palm and it was GREAT! The people there were very friendly and the rooms were clean and large. They had a nice pool and everything was in close proximity to the resort. There was a nighclub in the resort too. We had many fun nights there. Lots of stuff to do on the island. Great times.

Great way to get away and relax

Took the "Free" Diamond Holidays package that we "won" 3 nights and the cruise over on the Discovery Sun from Fort Lauderdale. It's a nice basic Hotel with friendly staff and after talking to other visitors who stayed at the Pricier Beachfront Hotels it turned out that our budget Hotel were much better in terms of service and amenities than the other costly beachfront Hotels.I enjoyed the stay and will go back just to be able to go snorkling at Paradise Cove on the Island again...Oh yes and they did try to push the Island Seas Timeshare on us too so we had the free lunch asked a lot of eager questions and then ran down to the beach HA! (btw timeshare is the worst thing to put your money in) but hey I enjoyed not being that reachable by phone, fax or E-mail from my work!!

t wait to go back to the Island Palm!

I visited the Bahamas for the first time (July 20th 2003) and stayed at the Island Palm. I took the Discovery Cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, which was fantastic for a 6 hour cruise. The food was excellent, there was plenty to do onboard, and it was very relaxing. When I arrived at the hotel I was surprised at how nice it looked. It was clean, the ice machine worked and the staff was very nice. If I needed anything like towels or extra cups, the staff brought it to my room. I attended the timeshare and declined their offer and still got free t-shirts and a free trip for 2 to return there. Use the public bus($1.00) to go to Lucaya beach( the best)and the International Bazaar. There are plenty banks nearby. You can find phone cards at stores in the mall down the street, and if you crave American fast food, Wendy's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway's, KFC, and McDonald's were not far and not expensive. There's also a liquor store in the mall and a post office around the corner. The hotel was secured at night, and I didn't encounter any trouble when walking or riding around town alone or with my husband. For the price this hotel can't be beat, especially if you take the cruise. In FT. Lauderdale the cruise alone is almost the same price as the entire package! Yes the taxes were high, but the entire trip was such a steal that I can't complain. Can't wait to go back.
Yeah Mon!

Top notch A+

Just returned from the Island Palm and I have to say "well done". I'll be honest, i'm not easy to please, but this place was great. Very classy place, rooms were very nice, enjoyed the pool, nice staff. Oh yeah, its also in a great location when it comes to alot of the restaurants and bars, clubs, and beach.

WE LOVED IT!

Nice resort. We just got back a week ago and I was very happy with it.
The rooms were nice and clean. The pool was plenty big enough and the resort staff was nice to us. I liked the location too. It was a comfortable layout too. Nicely manicured lawns

I love this place

This place is really nice. I didn't really know what to expect at first, but all my thoughts were put to rest when we pulled up in front of the resort. The resort is layed out nice and has kind of a theme going(like the vegas resorts). Rooms were great. You can tell they put some extra time and money into the rooms..alot of detail. Nice pool.
Plus, its in a GREAT location. The staff there are very helpfull and friendly too.

Decent Accomodations

from LadyROC
I stayed at the Island Palm in July. Our room was clean and the staff was nice. The ladies at the table in the corner didn't bother my firends and I because we were 25 and single and therefore, not old enough for the timeshare spiel. (Thank goodness). Our bathroom was extremely small, while our friend's bathroom in the next room was quite spacious. However, they also had problems with ants. Overall the hotel was nice and clean. They provide a shuttle to their sister property which is where the beach is and that seems to be nice as well. We ate at the snack bar and the food was fine. I did not like having to put a deposit on the remote control. This hotel is great for someone who plans on staying on the go. If you're looking for something a little fancier I would try their sister resort.

Good basic hotel, good access to beach

from jmaxdesigner
I have traveled a lot, and hotels in many packages are not as represented. I got this through a package offer at my job, and the Island Palm was represented as a good, clean, mid range hotel - it was just as promised. The hotel staff are very nice, and the pool bar has great cold drinks! It isn't on the beach, but they had a beach shuttle all day long. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the pool was very nice. They had a person on staff to book activities, and though I was solicted for a time share tour, there was less of that than I saw in Orlando or Las Vegas. The taxes are steep at all hotels here, so make sure that you ask about them.I enjoyed the Island Palm; it is a good value, and I will stay there again. Make sure that you go snorkeling; the water is fabulous!

Top Local Tips for Freeport

The Island was Nice Besides the hotel accomodations the island is a beautiful place to view. The beaches were so beautiful. I would recommend staying at one of the high priced resorts to have a great time.

Extra Tax on some hotels Some hotels charges an extra tax upon check-in so be sure to call and verify before you book!

public bus use public transportation its one dollar vs. a taxi at $20.00, be sure to leave tips and buy buy buy! the natives are poor people trying to feed there family! if you dont buy something and leave tips they cant eat! they depend on 100% tourest money to live! the port of authority of ripping the natives off because they leased the island for 99 years and the natives dont get paid good money! most make 3.00 an hour! many small shops owners that dont sell something for the day will not eat and feed there kids! so dont be a cheap a*s and tip and buy a gift for family and friends back home!
