A Grand Resort!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
A friend and I spent 6 days in February, 2004 at the Aruba Grand. We found this hotel to be top-notch. The lobby was beautifully furnished and the staff were cleaning and dusting every time we went through it. The desk staff were all friendly and helpful. The only problems we had were (1) the man in uniform at the HELP desk was not helpful at all when it came time to re-confirm our flight back. (2) we would REALLY have liked our room better if there had been a coffee pot in it. I left suggestion in their suggestion box that all rooms should be supplied with a coffee pot. We loved the spotless pool and the great beach. I plan on going back with my husband in Dec. and staying at the Aruba Grand.

wonderful trip to aruba

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I just got back from aruba yesterday and it was wonderful! We stayed at the Aruba Grand. July is their off season so it wasn't crowded at all. Everyone on the island was extremely friendly. The hotel staff -- front desk, waiters, beach staff, etc -- was excellent. We walked to other hotels in the high rise area. They seemed more crowded. The Aruba Grand was a perfect place to stay. It was quiet, on the beach, inexpensive, and clean. Not much nightlife at the hotel except the casino. We walked to other hotels and resturants for dinner and entertainment. The weather was perfect. Weather forecasts kept saying showers, but it didn't rain at all. The island is sand and cacti. I recommend eating at lots of different places, go on excursions, relax and have a wonderful time. We met another couple from Florida at our hotel and vowed we'd all do this again.

The Grand was OK. For the price we paid I didn't expect much. We had to change rooms, they forget to tell us we could upgrade for $20 a night. Floor 4 and 6 haven't been remodled yet. I was upset because the room had no coffee maker in it and than I had to pay for coffee on the small store downstairs. The manager was nice and helped us move to the 8th floor. Nothing happens in that hotel after 8 pm, we spent a lot of time at the Radission and the Allegro. I would only stay here again if I was on a very limited budget as I was this time. Had a great time on the beach and shopping! Don't go on the island tour on the WIX Tours. Its a van not a bus! Take the DePalm Tours. I am ready to go back!

Great Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Aruba Grand June 24th through June 28th. This hotel and staff was great. The hotel has been under construction, but the improvements are wonderful. We booked a room on the 8th floor ocean view. The room is one of the best rooms, we have stayed in. My husband and I travel a lot, and we have been to many hotels in many islands and countries.
This is one of the best. (We had 2 rooms booked, my parents taveled with us to Aruba.) The room was spacious. The furniture was actually real wood, and beautiful. The bed had adjustable control mattress on both sides. You had a refrig. and large in room safe to store your personal items. The bathrooms were beautiful. Real fixtures and plenty of lighting. Seperate room for the toliet and shower. The shower had glass doors, and very well mantained. We had a walk-in closet, with extra pillows and blankets. Also, we had personal robes to use while we were there. At your front door, you had a electronic door bell button, maid service button, do not disturbe button, and bell man button. We were able to get 2 rooms right together. There was a door from the hallway that we could close, and only our keys to the 2 rooms would open it.
The hotel staff was great and very nice. Everyone was happy and helpful. Casino had good pay offs. Even the lower $$$ slots, were enjoyable, due to the fact, you got good payoffs. The staff had afternoon games, if you wanted to play along. (paddle boat races, bingo on the beach, etc..)
The hotel was under contruction on the lower level. Not once were we waken by noise, or annoyed by any work that was going on.
There were only 2 sitdown places to eat, but there were 2 bars and 1 place to get ice cream and sandwiches. We chose to eat outside of the hotel, but we did get drinks from the bar. They did have some one going out on the beach getting drink orders from the bar, if you did not want to leave the beach.
The beach was wonderful and beautiful. The beach was clean and not over populated. There was room for everyone. We only got approached twice during our entire stay, one time, about time share and the other time about a place to eat. Each time we said no thank you, and they left us alone. The people of Aruba are very respectful, but they want to be respected. (reminder, ignorance is not an exception on the island, which we appreciated.) The staff help us find a spot everyday. I never had to find chairs or move them. It was always taken care of by the staff. When you check in they give you towel cards to use towels on the beach. The staff always was helpful to us with any issue we had.
Aruba was a neat island. We rented a car, and we did not regret that we did. Aruba is very easy to get around. We decided, we would be adventurous, and not use a map, and just drive. We found everything we needed to see. The lighthouse and the view is soo amazing. The ocean on one side to calm and clear (hotel side) and the other side has the high waves. We enjoyed both sides of the island. It is very warm in Aruba, but there is always a breeze. If there wasn't that breeze, the island would not be as enjoyable. We felt very safe on the island.
I can't say enough about Aruba and Aruba Grand. Was the Aruba Grand to most fancy hotel? No, but it was very nice. We checked out several other hotels along the strip on beach. Holiday Inn looked horrible. Hyatt and Radisson are beautiful, but if you are on a budget Aruba Grand is the next best thing. We did eat at the Radisson, it was not good. The Wyndham was very pretty and nice. Everyone else was not better than Aruba Grand. I am in the travel industry, and I know hotels.

Thank you Aruba Grand and Aruba!
Only complaint, if you'll call it that, lack of water pressure in the showers.

t grand at all

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were in Aruba from May 28-June 4 and this was our first time at the Aruba Grand. How sillly we were to expect the name to reflect the property. This place is mediocre at best. The lobby is shabby as is the funishings in the time share rooms. The beach however is lovely. It is not very crowded at all and there is no mad dash for beach chairs and huts. They however, make you turn in your towels by 6:00 pm, so there is no sunset gazing. I received the absolute worse manicure of my life from a woman who was more interested in what was on the Spanish speaking soap opera than what was happening to my nails. Stay away from the salon. The staff was unconcerned and border line rude. We received long distance calls and never received the messages which resulted in us making unnecessary calls. When we complained to the manager he offered no attempts at an apology or a compensation for the phone call. The food at the restuarants in the hotel is horrible. Eat out. If you want to stay at a place with a nice beach, but nothing extra the Aruba Grand is good for you. If you need to be pampered a little while on vacation (as I do) choose another property.

Beautiful Honeymoon destination

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to the Aruba Grand with an all inclusive package for our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. The food and service was superb at the outdoor restaurant (very romantic). The beach was less crowded than at some of the other hotels. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were comfortable, with beautiful views of the beach. I would highly recomend it!!

Pleasant stay at Aruba Grand

from snair
Let me start by saying Aruba is wonderful. Any place you stay at on Palm Beach will provide you with gorgeous oceanfront. If you are going to Aruba and are concerned about money, I'd recommend staying at the Aruba Grand. It's pretty simple and its casino isn't as packed at night as the others, but it's a good place to stay. The best thing about the Aruba Grand is the location-- it is located between the Wyndham and the Radisson on Palm Beach and is a short walk from the Hyatt as well. We stayed at the Aruba Grand and had all our meals the other hotels, and gambled at several hotels on Palm Beach. Everything is within easy walking distance. No need to pay a ton of extra money for the luxury hotels when you can walk their grounds, eat in their restaraunts, book appointments at their spas, and play in their casinos for free. The beach in front of the Aruba Grand is just as georgeous as the beach in front of the luxury hotels, and is not as crowded. We woke up late and had no trouble finding huts. Our room was ok, not beautiful, but fine. We didn't spend much time in our rooms anyway. Don't go to the Aruba Grand on your honeymoon, but if you are just going to Aruba for a relaxing vacation, I recommend the Aruba Grand.

question if would return

from A TripAdvisor Member
On arrival we discovered our travel agent had not made it clear we required a room accessible to stairs, the hotel clerk was very helpful in finding us a room on the ground level. The room had a lania with a fantastic walk out to the beach, and a lovely view. The room was an upgrade, I was disappointed with the room. Not 5 star according to U.S. standards. the shower door moved with great difficulty, understanding the hotel is one of the older ones on the island I still felt the rooms need upgrading. There were three in our party, we had some diificulty with receiving the adquate amount of bath linens. I woul not reccomend the hotel to younger adults seeking to have a "fun" time. There is more sinmplicity here, no nightly entertainment . The restaurant staff in general were excellent, a great waitor, Dahke. Not recommended as an all inclusive, too limited with food offerings. The staff friendly.

Never Again at the Aruba Grand

from A TripAdvisor Member
From the minute we went to check in it was a nightmare at the Aruba Grand! After not getting the right room and then being told after waiting 3 hours, that they didn't have the room we requested and paid for, I was told that my sisters and I could stay in a standard room and the next day we would be put in the room we requested. The front desk told that same story to about 5 other parties. There was nothing standard about the room they put us in! First, the room was filthy! The rug was stained, the room smelled like mildew, the toilet was dirty, the one small window in the room didn't open, the tv was broken, and we had a view of the roof. Because the room was so disgusting, we decided to go to the pool. On the way down, I stopped in the bathroom in the lower lobby. Both stalls were clogged with toilet paper and overflowing. After talking to several other guest who had nothing but horror stories, we decided to check out and go to another hotel. When we went to the front desk, to check out, the women at the front desk could have cared less. I have never had such horrible treatment by hotel staff or been to a hotel that was so poorly managed and maintained. It's a good thing there was room at the hotel next door, the Wyndam. What a difference! We may have lost all our money and had to spend more money for the new room but it was well worth it !!

Very quite and nice

from Hotdice
March 3-10, 2004 This was our second trip to Aruba. We really enjoyed the Aruba Grand. They just finished remodeling the 7th and 8th floor and our room was very nice with a view of the ocean. It was quite and we had plently of room to lay at the pool or on the beach. The staff was all very nice and helpful. They have cabana boys to help you set up your chairs. It was a great location, we could walk to the other high rise hotels, because there is a side walk along the beach side that connects them all. Our favorite lunch place was Gilliagns at the Radisson, with a beautiful ocean view. We also loved gambling at the Radisson, they played great music and several nights a week they have a live band. Some of our favorite dinner restaurants were Driftwood, excellent fresh fish, Cuba cooks for Latin food, Valentino's for Italian and El Gaucho for Argentine steaks. We went Deep sea fishing one day and if you have a weak stomach don't go, the first mate told us after we were on the boat that the water is always rough. We had 4-6 foot swells! The weather was prefect we will be going back soon!
