All-Inclusive is not All-Inclusive

Be careful when you first check-in, the beach side of the hotel is reserved for the high rollers and time-share owners leaving the rest of us unequally important money machines to the highway side of the complex. If your fortunate enough, you can have all the nightly activity and music one can stand, "Thank You So Much Hogs Breath Saloon". This is a Biker Bar/Fast & Furious Car Bar and they make no bones about loud music, loud pipes, and squeeling tires, kids, do you know what yours are doing? Just take your ear plugs!!!
Well now that you've had a good night sleep and are ready for good things to eat and drink, this is when the hotel really turns on the heat, starts beating you into submission, you know, to loosen your purse strings and pull out a buck or two. What, your ALL-INCLUSIVE? We don't care about that because guess what? Your gonna pay even more now "Smart Guy" for saying that nasty "AI" word.
Here's the deal - only one drink per person each time you go to the bar, so what if your getting a drink for you and your wife, she can come up after you go sit down, oh yeah, there's a limit too paly boy, so drink up, we want your cash. What you want dinner now, OK come to the table, out of 10 entrees, we forgot to tell you that only two of the ten qualify under the ALL-INCLUSIVE, usually, always, without a doubt, one will be chicken, suprise yourself on the second choice. Oh Yeah buddy!!! Tips were'nt included when you paid your travel agent for your trip, so if you don't tip the staff, believe me, you'll wish you drank the local water the last time you went to Mexico. Lunch, listen pal, we have "beans and franks", and the other choice is "franks and beans". How would you like yours done sir?
Water sports? There's the water, go for it Sport!!!
Now let me ask you a serious question. When at home, at night, you lay on the chaise lounger outside when every thing is quite and the kids are in bed, you look up in the sky and wonder where all those planes with their twinkling lights are going and how you wish you could be on one of them? just once, just to get away from it all!!! Well pal, spend your hard earned bucks with your travel agent and you'll find yourself finger painting in the sand, "SOS - SEND HELP NOW" hoping one of those planes will take you back to your chaise lounger at home, only your not dreaming this time!!!

La Cabana has TERRIBLE service

My husband and I stayed at La Cabana in Aruba for 7 nights during the 1st week of January 2004. Aside from the beautiful beaches in Aruba, the hotel we stayed at - La Cabana - was absolutely terrible. The room was constantly damp and moldy and the front staff did nothing to alleviate the issue. There are NO VISA card ATMs in the resort - when we had to walk half an hour in the blazing heat to an ATM machine that would accept VISA cards and then take a cab ride back, we complained to the Operations Manager. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, he yelled at me for not having the appropriate ATM card and told me it was not his problem. We paid THOUSANDS of dollars for this trip to be screamed at by the hotel manager. AMATEURS - NEVER stay at La Cabana. Stay at one of the high rises - where the staff are actually trained.
La Cabana - Huge Room! Great Staff!

We are planning a trip back to Aruba this winter. We stayed at La Cabana on our Honeymoon back in June, 1997. We stayed for two weeks and La Cabana is probably one of the all around best hotels I have ever been to on vacation. We checked in and had a BIG room but with two double beds. We called the front desk and asked if we could move to a room with a King. Within 10 minutes the front desk called back and sent a bellhop up to help us move. We opened the door to a HUGE suite. The room was bigger than my first apartment - probably about 1000 sq feet / kitchenette and two bathrooms. Not an Ocean view but great anyways. La Cabana is next door to the Casino and ten minutes from downtown Orenjestad (sp?) We went into town a couple of times to the Supermarket and made breakfast in our room every morning (honeymooners!) Staff was great! Only complaint was the price of drinks (we did not go All Inclusive) but if need be you can always go back to your room and mix a drink and bring it back to the pool - which is a nice break from the sweltering heat and sun (in two weeks it rained for about five minutes) - recommend renting a Jeep and touring the Island. Great shopping downtown - the best part is how safe and nice it is downtown. We left the bar one night at 2am and got lost downtown but felt we could walk anywhere we wanted - back alleys and such!If you are going to Aruba - stay at La Cabana! Its great!!!

Stayed at La Cabana in June 2003. Several reviewers have complained about the place being full of kids, but we were there just before most schools got out for the summer, so we did not see many children at all, just two babies, and 1 toddler. You should probably visit there before the kids get out for holidays, if you do not wish to be surrounded by kids. We travelled a lot by bus. The bus stop was not far outside of the resort gate. Very easy to get around into town, and to visit other hotels and restaurants. I recommend reserving a room overlooking the pool. A much better view than the back side of the place. Planning another trip to Aruba this June. I usually like to stay in Marriott hotels around the world. I did visit the Marriott in Aruba. Very beautiful; much more upscale than La Cabana, with some rooms right on the beach. But it is located way out, all by itself. Where La Cabana is located, it is a short walk to other hotels and restuarants. So, we are planning to stay at La Cabana again this year!

best holiday ever

We decided to return to aruba after spending a day there on a caribbean cruise.We booked in to La Cabana for a 2 week stay and had the best holiday ever.The journey from Scotland to Aruba was long but worth it! Accomodation was comfortable and well situated.We did not hire a car which in hindsight was not ideal as we spent a lot of money paying for taxis.Weather was fantastic, people were lovely and we will definitely be returning.

My husband & I just got home from our trip to Aruba. La Cabana was a wonderful place to stay. The price was rignt & the staff was always willing to help. Our room was large & clean. The beach was just a short walk away. You do have to cross a road but it really is a very small road & not a problem at all, don't let this put you off. We used the bus to get to the high rise area & into town and the bus stop is at the next hotel. But if you would prefer there are always tzxis avaialbe at the main entrance of the hotel. I would recommend La Cabana to anyone!!
Relaxing Honeymoon!

We just returned from a two week stay at La Cabana. We had a wonderful time! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Honeymooners are treated very well. Make sure you take advantage of the One Cool Honeymoon program. You get a lot of great discounts at various restaurants and attractions. We had everything we could ask for in our Grand Suite. A full kitchen, iron and worldpool bath. The weather was absolutely wonderful. Sunny and only one day of rain. We enjoyed the facilities offered to us, great pools and bars, etc. I would recommend Pizza and Pastabilities, a great place for an afternoon lunch. We were not too impressed with Captains Table. Very overpriced for the poor quality of the food. Overall a great resort, just bring lots of $$$, with you like good food you're going to have to pay for it. DRESS LIGHT, even at night it's quite warm.

We have been to Aruba 5 times. 4 times at the LaCabana. This is a great resort for family's. The activities for children are exceptional. Rooms are large. All with a great view. Sunset is wonderful.
Great Vacation

Just returned from La Cabana from a 1 week stay (September 2003), and had a lovely time. I highly recommend the resort, and wanted to emphasize the point that the beach is NOT far away or a bad walk.
Before booking the trip I was a bit put off by some accounts of the walking distance "crossing the street" to get to the beach, but it was nothing at all, if anything a leisurely stroll. We stayed in the back in the Villas (farthest building back) and still found the walk to be minimal, the the street is like crossing a narrow side-street -- it is by no means a 'busy dangerous highway' which I have read in others' reviews. The people were great, my only major issue was the fact that there was a stray dog with a broken paw outside the lobby that none of the staff would help. I actually complained multiple times for someone to call an animal shelter (assuming even Aruba has one) and the woman said it was being taken care of but later I saw the same dog over at the Cabana casino. Even if they did not care about animals, I still found it perturbing that they didn't take my request as a guest seriously (that the sight of a wounded animal whenever I walk through the lobby takes away from my 'good time!") But I digress... If you are doing a snorkel cruise, do the day excursion with Jolly Pirates. We had a fabulous time with them and would definitely do it again the next time -- open bar, 3 snorkel sites, lunch, rope swing, and all for only around $50. Best time we had in Aruba!

La Cabana

We recently returned from 9 day trip to Aruba. We booked a stay at the LaCabana based on other favorable reviews from this site. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the resort. It was very noisy, lots of kids & locals since it's a time share with kitchen facilities. Eagle Beach was nice; also convenient to the resort even though it was a short walk across the street. We also felt stranded at this resort since it is neither close to town nor close to the hise rises where most of the action is. We ended up relocating midway through our vacation to the Radisson Hotel. The Radisson was excellent! We are already planning a return visit to Aruba and we'll definitely stay at the Radisson again.
Top Local Tips for Oranjestad
Excellent dining and easy use of rental cars We find it cheaper to rent a car before arriving. We pick it up at the aiport on arrival and return it there on day of departure. Oneo of our favorite reastaurants is El Gaucho. Great food. Also like the Palms at the Hyatt. Some many good restaurants to name. Shopping is also excellent, especially for jewelry.
Buses/ bus stop Bus stop right out back of property. Vans called "the dollar vans" will stop if you're in the bus stop area and offer you a ride for a buck. They are safe and quick and come more often than the public buses and take you along the same lines. An easy and quick way to get to town or a supermarket.
DO NOT USE THE BLUE PHONES! In almost every resort in Aruba you will find "blue phones" which advertise as being low rates to call the US - I made a four minute phone call to Massachusetts & was charged $47.00 US - DO NOT USE THESE PHONES!!!!!!
