t need the front desk...

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at the Divi Village. The accomodations were nice enough (much better than the Lania building at Divi All Inclusive across the street) but the front desk proved to be horrible. They were not nice, didn't EVER smile or welcome us in any way, treated us like white trash b/c we were part of an all inclusive package, and were basically not helpful in any way. I think they most likely cater to timeshare folks who, let's face it, pay less that we did per night so it didn't make much sense. We were even interested in a timeshare (before staying at the Divi Village) but even that process was not informative (would give nothing in writing) and seemed more like a used car lot than anything else.

On a positive note weather in Aruba is fantastic and most people lovely and nice.

Much Nicer And Safer Than Barbados, Mexico, Or Cuba

We loved Aruba and are hoping to go back again. The weather is very hot and it only rained for one day out of two weeks. We found it so much safer than Mexico, Barbados, and Cuba especially outside the resort at night and on the beaches, no beach traders are allowed in Aruba. We felt safe on the buses even on the 11.30pm back from Oranjested. The tap water is lovely, soft, clean and drinkable and we had no stomach complaints. There are cute, gentle iguanas and lizards everywhere and so many different birds that migrate to Aruba including two hummingbirds. Pretty Oranjested with its lovely harbour is a 20 minute walk from the resort or the bus takes 5 minutes and is $2 return to anywhere on the island.
HOTEL -
The resort and room were lovely, huge, nice and clean. We had a partial sea view nice balcony and furniture. Most staff and locals were very friendly and helpful. There are mosquitos so if you go out after dark use repellant. The nice manager even got some tablets delivered to our room for me as I had quite a few bites.
BEACHES -
The huge powder white DRUIF BEACH is opposite the resort and we always got a hut even at lunch time. The sunloungers were piled up everywhere. The sea was nice on Druif beach, not too rough or deep but there wern't that many fish. BABY BEACH on the South East corner of the island was lovely, calm, shallow, soft sand, and had massive all different tropical fish in different colours. The fish love to eat bread and they swim all around you. We swam through the gap out at the rocks and saw some fish 3-4 feet long with bright blue on them. We hired a car twice for $37 a day to get to Baby beach as it's about 30km away and I don't think the bus runs that far. ARASHI BEACH on the North East corner of the island is also a lovely beach with calm, not too deep sea. It's got good snorkling with fairly big coloured fish. You can get all the way there on the bus.
FOOD -
We had a lovely 12oz lobster at Cuba's Cooking in Oranjested for $33 and at the Calypso restaurant on the beach at the Casa Del Mar hotel next door to Divi for $28 including a starter. There are three big supermarkets 10 minutes walk away from the resort. They're great, really cheap and stock everything. Superfood is the best. The Cafe Plaza restaurant at Renaissance Mall, Oranjested has lovely food, big portions and very reasonable prices. It has live music on Saturday nights. The Paddock restaurant in Oranjested near the cruise ship dock has an all you can eat rib special on Wednesdays starting at 5pm. You get a large portion of fries and a salad with as many ribs as you can eat for $10. We managed to eat about 7 racks each sitting at a table right on the waters edge and watching the cruise ship sail away and they were very nice. Pinchos restaurant five minutes walk past the renaissance hotel is on a pier over the sea. It's all lit up at night and looks beautiful and it's suppose to have lovely food. Unfortunately we didn't make this restaurant but will next time.

Would Stay There Again

Our first time in Aruba and we loved it! One bedroom suite at the Divi Village was more than enough space. Staff was attentive, food was good and we missed out on the timeshare people hounding you...hey, maybe that is why we enjoyed ourselves!
Would love to return AFTER all the controversy has settled down with the Holloway family. Sadly, we will refrain from our travels to Aruba until some effort is seen by Aruban officials.
We were there during their election and learned alot about the needs of the people. It will not be "one happy island" for long. Beautiful, beautiful island.

The Place To Stay!!!

My husband and I just returned from celebrating our 20th Anniversary in Aruba. (One Happy Island) The Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort was definitely the right place to stay. We were able to stay in the newly constructed building. It was wonderful!!!! We had a view of the pool area and we could see the Caribbean Sea from our room also. The room was excellant, very clean and up to date. We will be staying there again when we go back. THe service was great also. The resort staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this resort.

New resort with all the amenitities!

We used our timeshare and received a studio at the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort. We were lucky enough to get a brand new studio and it was HUGE -- over 1,000 square ft. It came with a nice kitchen with all the utensils and amenitities. Separate shower and jacuzzi bath with stone floors in the bathroom. There was a plasma TV with surround sound. There's a brand new infinity style pool and they are building a new wet bar (not yet completed). It was very nice. There are 3 drawbacks-- 1) they are still under construction and are building more units right outside our studio, so you can hear the construction crew every morning; 2) the front desk staff was not as helpful. It was almost like pulling teeth to get some information. Luckily it was only the reception staff that weren't great.. but everyone else was very helpful; 3) the beach is across the street, but it was very close. The beach wasn't great, but not bad. I would definitely stay there again.

A Great Vacation

Last summer I won a trip to the Divi Village resort in Aruba over the radio- so i was skeptical at first because the trip was free. But overall we had a really great time. The Divi Village is one of 4 Divi resorts on the Island. It was a different experience becaue I am used to staying at high rise hotels. The rooms were a bit dated- but very clean and spacious. We had an ocean view - the beach is across the street. The pool is nice - but small. It is a very quiet, private place to stay. Most of the people there were using their time shares or were honeymooning.
All the staff were very nice. If your into a happening hotel bar scene at night and tons of restaurants in the hotel this is not the place to stay. But it is a great place to relax- the beach is gorgeous and not over crowded at all. The Alhambra casino is down the street and downtown Aruba is just a short cab ride away. Overall the Divi was a nice place to stay. Aruba has the best weather, the people are really nice and the restaurants are amazing. It is the perfect place to vacation.

I was there last Oct. Very nice, disapointed the golf wasn't open yet, there is a nice beach across the street. Very clean & safe place, would love to go again. 2 Pools and activities.

Another great trip to Divi Village

Back from another wonderful trip to Divi Village in Aruba. I consider this our home away from home. Staff was as friendly as ever. Mr Griffith was always there helping everyone out and bringing a smile to everyone’s face. This year we were a crowd of twenty including kids. This definitely kept me hopping.
The facilities are wonderful and in tip top shape. The water was as warm as I have ever experienced it both in the pool and in the ocean. The golf course was great and Adam the golf pro is always there to help. I played six times this year and even took my grandson out on the course with me.
The girls did there usual shopping and planned all of the shows at the Tamarijn and Divi Divi for us. I made my usual deposit at Alhambra but enjoyed every minute of it.
This year we did the Catamaran Sunset Booze Cruise and it was a great time. The younger crew did the jeep tours but I learned to stay away from that. Divi is improving everywhere you look – the Villas are magnificent. The grounds are beautiful and Mr Griffith and his staff were wonderful. Again I know I sound like a commercial but we all loved it that much and can’t wait to get back in February. John

we have been coming to Aruba now for 35 yes..35 years.
it is a little crowded now, but for relaxation, plenty on sun ( 86 all year round) wonderful people and a least 90 % speak english, fantastic cuisine and a excellent place to stay especially if you like golf, excellent 9 hole course, the people at hotel were great and any problems were quickly solved by the GM Mr Gerrit Griffith.
this time we came with my daughters and my 1st grandson, we had a very good time. i think will keep on coming for the next 35 years

Wonderful Resort

My new wife and I chose the Divi Golf Resprt for our honeymoon mostly to enjoy the amazing beaches of Aruba, and to enjoy the activities. We could not have made a better choice for us. First off, go with the All Inclusive, it is worth every penny as all food on the island due to importing will be expensive. The Mega Inclusive package allows you to enjoy the food and non motorized water sports(a big plus) at The Divi Aruba and Tamarijn resorts across the street on the beach. The restaurants were all very good as well as buffets with enough variation over the course of the week. For all restuarants you must make dinner reservations the day before. The golf course is well laid out( it is windy every where in Aruba!) While it is not Pebble Beach it is more than enough to enjoy for most levels of golfers. It favors right handers with a good mix of Par 3-6 and the only down side was the construction of new buildings. A good tip is after 3pm the price is $45 and is all you can play. The staff at the club house staff is very helpful and extremely friendly. We found that the Golf Resort was the best out of the three Divi resorts, for newer buildings and that it had the least kids and was quiet at night. The other two resorts offer varied night entertainment, very good bars and of course incredible sunsets. We found 1 -2 days of rental car sight seeing to be more than enough(get a Jeep as most island roads are dirt and very rugged). An Aruba vacation is what you make it with the greatest attribute the beach and the incredibly warm and friendly Aruban people who make you feel welcome where ever you go. Truly the Happy Island.

Top Local Tips for Oranjestad

snorkel Unless you're into big party boats and a lot of drinking, check out The Octopus ( at Holiday Inn pier)with Captain Jethro for a smaller sail (we had 9 people) and snorkel trip at the best price.

Getting Around Sure, it's not a big Island but there are plenty of places to explore that can't be gotten to without a car. Therefore, if you want to explore, or go to different beaches, see historical sites or go to remote beaches we'd recommend a rental car. Once the taxi fares are added up, a rental car is a better deal if the intent is to explore the Island thoroughly.

Food is not that expensive Many reviews talk about how expensive it is to eat in Aruba restaurants. There are many low cost options such as Subway and Dunkin Donuts.
