Top Local Tips for Dickenson Bay
St John's in general There are really very few reasons to visit St John's!! The cruise ships all call and there is a bit of a 'tourist shopping area'.The rest of the town is tiny and rather tatty with few shops. The C & C wine bar is a nice place to have a lunch if you do go in. The town looks dangerous at night but is actually fine - we were taken to a local bar/restaurant called Spliffs (yes, really!!) on a Friday night and had a great time although any passing tourist would think it was 'off limits'. Definitely recommended for a music, beer, rum and barbeque experience on Friday's!! Nothing else was on offer so it was just a name :o))
Dont just shop in St Johns We made the mistake in asking to go to the malls in St johns thinking that was the hub of the place - when in fact too late into our holiday we realised St Johns has a lot more to offer in the way of restaurants cafes and bars and nightlife. Definately a place to explore more when we go back next year. Cruise ships come in certain days (Tuesday to Friday - I think) so the place could get very busy.
Jewellery Coming from UK the Jewellery prices are very good - and a better range than we expected to find. Shop staff v. helpful, friendly and no too "pushy" Second tip - if you have the time, take a trip out to Shirley Heights for the Sunday evening BBQ & Bands - fun in a beautiful setting
