The resort is really beautiful, but building was not complete when we were there and the view from our room (which was a lovely honeymoon suite upgraded for free) was where the works were; one morning we were also woken up by the workers talking loud near our room.
Service was generally good, but sometimes attention to details was missing: for example, the massage was quite good, but the 2 therapists talked quite a lot at the beginning and we needed to leave the room immediately after the massage, whereas I would have expected some of relaxation time. Also, we asked reception to arrange a boat trip on the perfume river, including an English speaking guide, but we didn't get the guide and nobody was there to take us back to the hotel after the tour. They said this was because of a misunderstanding.
Breakfast buffet is good and the distance from Hue centre was a plus for us because the area was nice and more quiet.
I think it will be great in probably 6-9 months, when the works will be finished and staff will be more trained.

Beautiful Property

Great property located just outside the city. Grounds were very nice and it looked like they were either adding on or just finishing some renovations. Nice Pool and Good Restaurant.

The staff was very friendly and they had dependable internet service. Shops in front of hotel were nice and not priced too bad.

Beautiful landscaping

Positive: Large bedroom and bathroom, 2 balconies, great landscaping (water, outdoor sitting areas), nice pool, amenities and airconditioning worked great, near emperors' tombs and Perfume River, breakfast was good, staff very helpful. (This hotel was designed and landscaped to bring about a calm, relaxed feeling.)

Neutral: Not in town but near sites of interest to tourists (Personally, we liked this feature.)

Negative: Dining room was hot at night (they did move fan to make it cooler) and the food was ok.

Wonderful place to stay

I stayed here for a couple nights in November. It is outside of town, but a wonderful place to stay! The rooms were beautiful. Each has two balconies. The beds were extremely comfortable. The pool is very nice. The breakfast was delicious. The restaurant is gorgeous. High ceilings, great food. Internet is available in the breakfast room. There are several nice handicraft shops on the property and a spa. The only disappointment: the candles were never lit at the candle bar!

A relaxing stay

Pilgrimmage village is a fairly new resort a little way out of Hue. Don't be put off by the location though, as the hotel runs free shuttle buses, and taxis in Hue are cheap & plentiful if you want to return a bit later. It is a really relaxing, peaceful resort, and we enjoyed our time here....sightseeing during the day, then returning to the lush tropical gardens of the hotel for a refreshing dip in the pool, followed by a night out on the town.
We really liked Hue, a complete different pace of life to the big Vietnamese cities, and all the better for it. I would definitely recommend Hue, and the Pilgrimmage Village.

Restful, Lovely, and Delicious

We just returned from a trip to Hué. We spent four nights at Piligrimage Village and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We were on a promotional package offered by the hotel. It included airport transfer, a lovely, many-course dinner, an afternoon tea, and a massage in addtion to two nights lodging.

Because we were staying four nights, they let us purchase two packages so we had all those things twice plus transfer back to the airport. Check their website for promotions.

Unlike many hotels that offer airport transfer, they were there waiting when we landed at the airport and quickly escorted us to an air conditioned van and gave us chilled damp cloths for freshing up and supplied us with bottled water.

I tend to be very prone to traveler's illness, but I ate heartily here at the truly exceptional complimentary breakfast buffet without getting sick-- and I was drinking the fresh juices and eating the lovely fresh fruits! Likewise, we at the two many-course dinners at the restaurant. They were delicious and the staff made certain we knew how to eat unfamiliar dishes.

I agree with all the positive things already written in the former reviews, so I won't duplicate them here. I will say that if you want to walk right out your door into the action, this isn't the place for you. However, if after a day of sight seeing in hazy, busy, noisy Hué you like to return to a tranquil, clean, lovely place, then stay at Pilgrimage Village.

Lovely resort

We stayed in Pilgrimage Village for 3 nights in September, for about $65 a night and really enjoyed it. It was low season so the place was fairly empty, and there was a high staff to guest ratio, which was nice in some ways (got my laundry back in three hours instead of the next day, able to book beauty treatments at short notice), a bit weird in others (having four people watch you wrestle with chopsticks can really put you off your stride!). Our room was HUGE, we used to live in an apartment about the same size! Balconies at front and back, huge bed, loads of space, massive bathroom. When we got there the first day they had placed tiny flowers from the gardens around the room - on the bed, by the sink, etc. On our first night when we came back from dinner in the restaurant, there was a page on the bed with a translation of a Vietnamese fable, which was really sweet. As with other hotels in Vietnam we got complimentary bottles of water and a fruit bowl.
We ate in the restaturant a few times, and the food was great, although obviously more expensive than if you go into town. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, two chefs to cook pancakes, omelettes, pho etc and loads of choice. The bar is also very nice, but again was pretty quiet. All the staff were great - very enthusiastic and friendly. They were using the low season to train on new staff but that didn't cause any problems because there was always someone experienced with the trainee or close by.
Pilgrimage Village is a fair bit outside Hue (about 3 kms), but they have a regular shuttle service in and out of town. We weren't that impressed with Hue overall, but then were being fairly lazy that week so didn't go to see much except the citadel which was good. The town itself just isn't very attractive, and bars& restaurants we visited were't great

wonderful time

We have stayed in this hotel for 3 days. we decided for this hotel after reading the reviews on the trip advisor. The hotel area is lush green, has loads of flowers and is very well kept. The rooms are spotless clean, the interior with marble, well furnished. The atmosphere in the restaurant is missing a bit (huge dining room) but the food is really good, and they serve a great breakfast. What we really liked were the people working there, very helpful, always friendly. (e.g. the second night we had to move to another hotel in town because the pilgrimage village was booked out, the reception manager was taking care of everything, booking the other hotel, negotiating a good price, organising the transport to and back the hotel without any additional costs - special thanks to you Thu') If you don't mind a little distance into town and look for nature and quietness, for all the comfort of a five star hotel for a reasonable price and care for friendlyness and lovely people - here you will find all that.

really really nice hotel

This is a really really nice hotel, a little bit outside in Hue. But that's definitely not a problem. They' ve got a bus shuttle in operation and taxis are dirt cheap so you can reach the citdel in hue in around 10 minutes by taxi for 2-3 usd.

The staff is so friendly and they love to care about you. Wonderful garden, nice pool and very new stilish rooms. Refigerator, soft beds, safe, big bathroom and fresh fruits everday.

The breakfast is very good...several fresh juices, eggs prepared to your choice, the same with pho. different kinds of cheese, sausages, rice, noodels, desserts (for breakfast) and fresh fruits with cereals.

We only paid 35 EUR for a superior room which is really really cheap. we also had dinner twice during our stay in this hotel...really enjoyed it and prices are a little bit higher than around on the streets but still cheap.

I can really recommend this hotel...nice rooms, nice food and a phantastic garden and pool.

well worth the small money for a room

We stay for two nights in August 2005. Pretty new. Rooms in differnet two floors buildings. Amazing gardens plenty of tropical plants. Lovely swimming pool. Located outside of the city but free taxi service. You can also rent a motorbike to visit the amazing Emperadors tombs. Pleasnt and helpful staff.

Top Local Tips for Hue

Visit the imperial city The vast imperial city will remind you somewhat of the forbidden palace in Beijing and is well worth seeing. Also, if you have time, take a boat ride on the Perfume River after you visit the Thien Mu Pagoda and monastery.

Be careful crossing the street Whatever you do, don't stop when crossing the street. The drivers will dodge around you, but they don't expect you to stop. This is the most dangerous thing you will encounter in Vietnam....Crossing the street.

Water taxis Taking a water taxi to see thew pagodas isn't actually that enjoyable and is very slow, so if your time is limited, drive instead.
