Great value,great spot

We stayed for 3 nights in March,struggling to find a bad thing to say about this great little hotel.Rooms were immaculate,staff were fantastic,location is great,just 1 block from the river.Lots of food stalls,galleries etc within 2 blocks.
Biggest problem you may have is getting a room.
Stayed in the family room with a balcony on 6th floor,fantastic view across rooftops of Hue for $36US inc breakfast.
We loved Hue,Orchid is certainly part of the reason why.

This place was great. The staff very friendly and helpful - put us intouch with boat owners, bus drivers etc.
Good location. Immaculately clean. DVD player in the room so we got to play all our CDs from Thailand!

Everything you have read about the Orchid Hotel is true. It really is a superb hotel with everything you need. The staff are exceptional. These rates won't last - the hotel is not very old and is beautifully appointed. The location is good - half a block back from the river and lots of eating places nearby. The breakfast was quite good and you can order eggs to be cooked fresh.
We would return definately.

Excellent hotel in good location, newly renovated, rooms very clean. Inexpensive & service great. Breakfast - not the best we had but for the price - very good.

I'm staying at this hotel at the moment and it's fabulous! After a tiring 16 hour train ride I deserve it! The hotel has complete amenities and with extras too like hair dryer, tv (with dvd player and dvd's for you to borrow) and even a weighing scale!! (not that I plan to use it). Internet is free and it's within walking distance to Le Loi St. The staff are very helpful. They told us where to have a massage that's cheap, which restaurants to go to etc etc. You can rent a bike for US$1 and cycle to the Citadel and surrounding areas. Oh and they also have free pick up at the train/ airport / bus. For about US$25-30 you get 5 star facilities and service. Not bad indeed. Can't wait for the buffet breakfast tomorrow :)

this litle hotel is wonderful.
we paid 24 usd and the quality was of a 5 star hotel.
the rooms were lovely, the staff very nice, the location perfect.

Wonderful hotel

My husband and I stayed in Hue for one night at the Orchid. it is a wonderful location and the staff was very friendly. We arrived early in the morning (8:00) and they had us in a room within twenty minutes and let us eat the buffet while we waited. Unfortunately, the first room available was on the bottom floor and it was very musty smelling. We spoke with the front desk later that afternoon and they moved us immediately to the sixth floor and were very accomodating. It was the least expensive room we had during the trip, but it was the best value and very clean. They also spent some attention to detail in decorating the rooms.

You won't believe this place is a hostel - it offers so much more than a lot of hotels we've stayed in over the years.
The staff are really friendly and the rooms are beautifully decorated - with extras such as having a dvd player and power shower making it excellent value for money.
Location is okay, lots of restaurants etc around, and Hue is small enough to walk/cyclo around.
Breakfast is okay, not the best we had in Vietnam, but certainly adequate to get you going for the day.
Internet access is available and the reception can assist you with any tours etc.
Overall, highly recommended.

Orchid Hotel has got to be my favourite hotel during my 4 week visit to Vietnam. We were checked into a standard room with a window that viewed directly onto a brick wall, however the staff were kind enough to without even asking, suggest we move to a better room after the current guests had checked out, for no additional cost.
The new room was absolutely stunning. One king size and one single bed, beautiful silk dressing gowns, a large luxurious bathroom, balcony, a vast collection of dvds to borrow, and huge windows with views of surrounding Hue.
The staff at Orchid were fantastic, they helped us with the smallest thing from lending me a pair of scissors, to booking our train to Danang the next day. They also helped write directions in Vietnamese for us to show taxi drivers.
Orchid was so comfortable that even though it rained constantly whilst we were in Hue, we hardly left our room and indeed booked an extra night for we were so reluctant to leave.

We booked this hotel after reading great reviews here and we weren't disappointed. We booked online and when we arrived we were told the room we had booked (standard) wasn't available anymore yet they would put us in a family room for no extra charge, which we were pleased about as we'd just gotten off the bus and were in no mood to walk around looking for another hotel.
Our room had a queen and single bed, small table and chairs, good sized balcony, good sized bathroom with shower over bath (and good water pressure! something of a rarity in Vietnam) plus all the usual things like satellite TV, minibar etc. The hotel also has a lift (not all in Vietnam do)
The hotel is quite new so everything is very clean and in excellent working order. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful and even gave us a Christmas card and cake which was very sweet of them to do!
The buffet breakfast is quite good and you can book tours etc through the hotel. We booked a DMZ tour through them and you might want to book elsewhere - the company they used had terrible old buses with poor air con and horribly cramped seating.
Definitely try and stay here if you can, it was booked out while we were there and they were fielding numerous enquiries for rooms!

Top Local Tips for Hue
what to see Is better if you go to the citadel with a tour guide otherwise you may miss some major attractions. by a tour to the temples, 3 usd per person, you learn a lot and it's wonderful.
Private Boat Tours We arranged a private tour on a dragon boat for my family of four - it was a pleasant way to get to the sites up the river (way better than a bus) and a deal at $10 for the boat for the day, which I paid at the hotel. The couple who owned the boat charged us 75,000 dong each for lunch on the boat, which was high but it was good (and we could drink all we wanted although this wasn't clear to me - I thought we would be charged extra for each drink) - I don't think you have much of a choice on this. The hard sell starts right away on trinkets, clothes etc. - when you say no (over and over), do it with a smile - remeber how little these people have compared to the people that take tours on their boat. We were lucky - the boat lady brought out something we wanted (her initial price was 150,000 - I ended up getting 2 of the items we wanted plus a drawing for 100,000 and I know I still paid a lot so bargain hard, but do it with a smile!).
