Top Local Tips for Hoi An
Tailors Take the time to browse and go to a couple rather than just relying on other's recommendations. Some places e.g. Yaly are more 'high end' and great to get a suit or formal wear; others e.g. Buong Bong or 50 Le Loi have selections of fabric that are more suited to casual or more informal work wear. If you know about tailoring, all of the shops have a selection of their work available for you to look at so you can check things out to your own satisfaction. Embroidery is very big throughout the town so, if you have something in mind of your own design, you can consider adding embroidery as a feature too.
Shopping in Hoi An After going through Vietnam, in hindsight I realised that Hoi An has the nicest and cheapest articles for sale, mostly the silk scarves etc. More expensive in Hanoi. Great place to cruise along the less noisy streets. I bought a lovely silver pendant piece that is the conical hat, only $22USD but looks fantastic. Seems to be nicer more selective pieces to buy here. I would do most of my shopping here, which I did! Rest your shopping feet at the Cargo Club patisserie. Fantastic desserts await. Have only just found out post Vietnam that they have a lovely balcony upstairs looking out to the river. Now I want to go back!!! All streets great to browse through but I did find that Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in Hoi An had me coming back to it most days.
