I've been to a lot of countries like US, Australia, Canada and most of the South East Asia, and stayed in different hotels, but the one that really excell is Windsor Plaza Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The staff are all courteous, helpful and most of all the facilities are A ok! Since then, whenever I have business engagement in HCMC, I see to it that I stay in Windsor Plaza Hotel!

Excellent Hotel

The Windsor Plaza Hotel was a fantastic place to stay. The quality of
service you get from the staff is excellent. We stayed in the executive suite (a little bit extra but well worth it) and had access
to the executive lounge which offers free internet and free finger food and drinks (including alcoholic) between 5pm and 8pm. You can eat and drink all you want which came in handy for saving some cash at meal time. There is a entertainment venue at the top of the hotel with a 360 degree view of ho chi minh city which is great a night time. Happy hour is between 5 and 8pm and the prices are fantastic. Our room was of high standard and had a great view of the city. The free internet connection and in room safe were also of convenience. The buffet breakfast is between 6 and 10am that offers everything from toast to fine vietnamese rice. And i must say that there is plenty to choose from. The only down side to staying in this hotel was that we had a room right next to the elevator which woke us up every now and then, so if you are staying in this hotel ask for a room away from the elevator. The airconditioned shuttle bus leaves every half hour that takes you to 3 main spots in district one. I suggest getting off at the second spot, a great little bar called The Underground is right out the front. Overall a excellent hotel to stay at.

Okay but a bit overpriced for what you get

I stayed here for 3 days. Its an ok hotel but i believe for the price you pay you should expect a bit better, especially in a place like Vietnam where accommodation is cheap. I was up on the 9th floor therefore the views were fantastic although I was still woken by the traffic in the mornings and late at night. The breakfast was the best that I had in Vietnam, catering to all nationalities. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and large. The restaurant was a bit overpriced considering there are geat cheap places just across the road. The pool although small is a welcome relief from the relentless heat and humidity and its enough to cool you down after a hard days sightseeing. The downsides were that use of the internet is quite expensive USD $2 per hour (especially considering most two star hotels do not charge at all for it!), the lifts were extrememly slow. Another thing is that when trying to book a tour through the tour agent on site her command of English and knowledge of the country was not that good. All in all it is a good spot to start off with to get used to Vietnam and its ways then downgrade to a cheaper hotel when you're ready.

We had a great stay at the Windsor plaza and would recommend it as a higher end hotel with all mod cons at a great rate. We got upgraded to the ëxecutive" floor, but for mind, the only difference appeared to be a stairwell between the top 4 floors and the rooftop bar/pool. The location isn't the best but nothing a $1USD p/p moped ride won't fix. We found it to be a great base and at around $75AUD a night, we were more than happy. The rooftop pool was a little on the smaller side but was certainly more than appreciated at the end of a day in Cu Chi tunnels! Hotel drink prices were about average and the included breakfast was great value. The location above a relatively large shopping complex was pretty handy as well. Good value and well worth the money.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at the Windsor Plaza. When we arrived, it was quite chaotic - I think they were having a special function there, as there was a red carpet laid out and loads of VIPs coming in and out.
Despite the mayhem, reception was quick to check us in. We were given a free drink voucher too (I think all guests get one).
The only problem I have with the hotel is their lifts. I think quite a few people have complained about them and I agree. They have 4 lifts, but they're all very slow and can't seem to handle the amount of guests in the hotel.
Apart from that, I have nothing else to complain about. We were upgraded to the Executive floor, which meant we had access to free food and drinks on the 24th floor. We definitely made us of this!
The pool's rather small but if you go there at the right time, you should be able to get a deckchair.
Another bonus is the frequent shuttle buses to and from the city centre. The ride takes about 20 minutes and it's a great way to see the city. Think of it as a free tour bus!
We also made use of their free airport shuttle. They didn't mind taking us to the airport at 530am on the last day. The staff were all smiles.
And lastly - the breakfast buffet. It's huge! They offer Chinese, Vietnamese and Western dishes.
So to sum up:
Pros: great breakfast, free airport/city shuttle, free food for those on executive rooms.

drop and complimentary brekkie, that was great. The breakfast was fantasic, they had a vietnamese breakfast, western breakfast as well as an eastern breakfast.
There's a hotel shuttle bus that takes hotel gusets to the CBD, District 1 every 15mins, as this hotel is located in Chinatown. Apparently the best authentic eats are around this area, as the locals suggest.

We had a good time at this hotel. There is a lot to do in the building being that there is 3 floors of markets below the hotel and a brilliant coffee shop around the perimiter. There is also a KFC on the corner too. We only stayed for one night as we spent three nights at the Novotel Garden Plaza, but we would recommend this one over the Novotel.
The ONLY problem we had at this hotel was a problem with noise. There was a Club or something on level 7 of the hotel and we could hear it prerfectly from level 9 to the point where I was able to hear people screaming to each other. I could alsohear the noise from the rooms next door.
When we checked in for our honeymoon trip we were given two single beds and they only had one other room (which had no windows) but there was absolutely no traffic noise the next morning which was a plus.
The pool was good, and there is a free gym too. Internet access is hugely overpriced at USD8.00 per hour so go elsewhere for this.
The buffet breakfast was amazing. So much to choose from and all very good quality. They do have things scattered all over the room though so we missed some of the western style foods which were hidden away a bit. We didn't go to Vietnam for Western Food though so that's ok.
Overall a pleasant stay with good points overriding the bad ones.

This hotel has the best deal available in the city- we stayed in an executive room for 50 pounds sterling a night- for this we got use of Exec. lounge with free food and drink fron 5 til 8,free broadbanfd, 2 free items laundered per day,free airport pick up and drop off plus breakfast!
Excellent hotel -also get free shuttle to district 1 with half hour drop off and pick up.

This hotel was very nice. The pick up from the airport was waiting for us with a clearly marked sign, and upon hotel arrival, the staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean with an energetic feel. Although we were only there for a layover of one night, we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very clean with a nice big bathroom. There is a spa inside the hotel too, but we didnt go to it. But, we did have the buffet breakfast.... which was wonderful. The best breakfast in SE Asia!!!
Inside the hotel was so nice, but outside, we later found out, was not so nice. It is in Chinatown, which is not as nice as the main city center. If you are looking for convienent, safe nightlife, this is not the hotel for you unless you enjoy taking cabs everywhere.

I stayed here with my wife and 2 kids in Jan 07. Although the hotel was almost fully booked and quite busy, we got excellent service all round. We stayed with a triple room setup on the exec floor. The room was very clean, each bathroom has 2 showers, the bed was good and the rooms had good views.
The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The buffet breakfast was excellent too and included. They picked us up from the airport without charge and dropped us there at 5 am again at no cost, with a free breakfast box. What more could you want!
The only complaint was the slow elevators, otherwise I would highly recommend!

great hotel in a city of little interest

the windsor plaza is a gem in a city of little interest (unless your interest is in the american war)to travellers.not being in centre of city,this hotel offers free pick up and return from saigon airport,free half hourly city shuttle.free full breakfast buffet,free welcome drink after 5pm and a bunch of minor courtesies.the rooftop swimming pool is adequate unless you use it when the day tours return...was able to book a windowless room through hostelworld.com for $50 which had two double beds with frig and a/c.these extra large rooms are a blessing as ,being windowless,you get no street noise...another advantage of this hotel is the first 4 floors of asian markets which include an american style supermarket on first floor where you can even buy 1 litre tubs of ice cream and satisfy the inner selfs desire for comfort food!!

Top Local Tips for Ho Chi Minh
Taxi rules Make sure you bring the hotel card so you can show it to the taxi driver and he can get you home. They often do not use the same names as english for the names of the hotels. Case in point was my hotel "windsor plaza hotel' was known as "an Dong". Helpful to know that kind of stuff. Also make sure the meter always goes on, they all have meters and most work normally. it's a usual trick for the drivers to take
Great noodle place located about 3 streets away is Pho Quan - Vietnamese noodle place. On the main street outside the shopping centre where they park the mopeds, head about 3 streets (200m) away from the towns centre. Tucked up an alley about 20m. Great noodles (pho) form a friendly english speaking host.
Restaurant 13 Rest 13 (situated right next to the grand hotel) is an excellent place to eat, the staff, prices and food are amazing. My partner, mum and dad and myself had a meal and drinks (including lots of beer) for approx $30 USD. A must if you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
