Historical Traveller Reviews of Saigon Mini Hotel 1
Fantastic
from gordiegingeThe staff are so very helpful and will do anything for you. They speak fantastic english and are very keen to help.
The hotel arranged a car to pick us up from the airport, a bit more expensive getting a taxi from the airport but if you have never been in saigon before it can be a good thing as it saves you from the fake taxi's and just the general overwhelmingness (is that a word?) of arriving in saigon after a long flight.
The hotel staff will provide you with a map with the main areas marked.
The hotel is just around the corner from the main backpacker area. lots of bars and resturants.
The rooms are clean and have a/c and mini fridge and tv. The hotel laundry is also great, items all came back clean and ironed.
Most importantly though with this hotel is the price, mucho cheapness!!
I have stayed in a lot of hotels and this is the best value for money of anywhere i have stayed.
A wonderful place
from tasdiStaff was very helpful and friendly, and the security was good. They speak good English, with a little 'saigon' accent. Even then, their words are easy to understand.
Do not expect, though, that the location of this hotel is in the prime area of Ho Chi Minh. It's in one of the small streets actually. But we didn't mind. You can easily get a cab just down the street, or walk 15 minutes to Ben Than Market. And walk another 10 minutes to Dong Khoi street.
I would highly recommend this hotel to all those travelling to Saigon. It's very affordable. We only paid 450 USD, for 4 rooms, good for 4days and 3 nights, with free breakfast for 8 persons. It is definitely the best cheap, but classy, accommodation I have ever experienced.
Check out their website. The photos tell what's really there to expect.
To Elaine, Marvin, James, Lecy, Ryan, An, Luke and Rodmark... glad you all enjoyed our stay at this hotel! Great choice huh!
Good value for money at Saigon Mini Hotel
from MartinitravellerIt has nice rooms, but not very large and a little bit noisy in the top floors, but it's clean and offers the main commodities like A/C, TV, Minibar and a comfy bed. It compensates in utility what it lacks in decoration and spaciousness. The breakfasts are simple and made in a small room in the ground floor and because there are no major views from there, you might ask for the lower floors to be more quiet, at least until breakfast time...
The staff were really the best asset in this hotel, giving us a map with all main directions, keeping our luggage in a safe room while we were away for 6 days in a Mekong Delta trip and pointing us a great massage place, after knowing the place we wanted to go was closed (they actually phoned them to be sure!!). It was on New Year´s Eve and it was great: Studio 137 is the name!!
For location, it wasn't far away from the central places, but it's still a walking distance of 20-30 minutes depending on your pace... so we took the riquexo and it was much more pleasant for our feet! Nearby you have plenty of restaurants and some shops so you won't complain about lack of variety. Quality is alright.
Overall a nice place to stay on a budget that offers you simple but practical accommodation and you have always a nice staff with a smile ready to help you! Would stay there again!
Great value, fab!
from Becky8206The rooms were clean and well equipped. The hotel was small but newly refurbished and the staff were professional, helpful and friendly. I would definately recommend the hotel and the location is great for sightseeing and using as a base.
The hotel also provided great value for money.
Great place to stay in Saigon
from padi579Lovely Hotel, Great Staff
from krnworldThe hotel is located just around the corner from the main backpacker streets (Bui Vien Street and De Tham Street) where you can find many travel agencies. The hotel is on an alley way so it was very quiet. You can walk to major tourist attractions in 15-20 minutes.
My superior room on the 2nd floor was spacious, clean, quiet, nicely & newly furnished. Bathroom with a bath tub was also clean and spacious.
Breakfast included in the rate was simple but nice. You choose from baguett, noodles, eggs like other hotels in Vietnam. Breakfast room on the ground floor was morden and clean.
All the staff I came across were very helpful and freindly. Receptionists spoke good English but rest of them ie kitchen, security staff didn't speak much English.
There are many eating places near the hotel especially on Bui Vien Street. You'll never starve in Ho Chi Minh! Just outside the hotel, there is a side street restaurant and a fruit juice stand. I tried Can Chien dui Ga (fried chicken with flavoured rice with some salad) for 19,000 dong and it was very delicious. This eating place seemed popular with the locals.
The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport. If you want to catch a taxi from Ho Chi Minh airport, don't go for the pre-paying big TAXI sign just outside the arrival gate. They asked me for USD10 (around 170K VND). Metered taxi to the hotel will only cost you around 80K Dong or 100K dong at the most.
Overall, I felt Saigon Mini hotel was a nice little boutique hotel with lovely staff, clean room at a great location. Highly recommended!
Great Value
from LeeKentsmall but lovely hotel
from kho_raymondit is a little bit out of the way in district 1, close to district 5 and it is a either you love it or hate it matter. we loved it for the experience, walking through rows of local shops and markets, which gave us an insight of the culture at the same time, managed to grab some really nice local food. we hate it for, having to cross so many roads with crazy traffic just to get to the attractions in district 1. anyway, the taxi is always available everywhere and at a good price.
we will definitely stay here again for our next ho chi minh trip
Great hotel in HCMC
from redheadcaAlthough booked through a hostel booking site, this is not a hostel. It's a small, nice hotel. The lobby has a computer for free internet usage and additional computers if that one is busy. The included breakfast has 6 choices including a great omelet .
The staff was very helpful. The location was convenient and right around the corner from the busy backpacker area with many restaurants and bars. Yes, there are some bar girl bars in the area, but they are easily avoided and the area seemed a lot safer than in most big cities around the world.
We liked this place so much we returned to it at the end of our trip, rather than try a different hotel.
Loved it, brand new and spotless, awesome location
from vancouvergirl85Location is awesome. Just around the corner from the backpacker district, so close to everything, but down a sidestreet, so not much noise.
From the pictures online it didn't look like standard rooms would have a window, but our group had 3 rooms, all had windows (no view, but it made it brighter). Rooms weren't too small, and though not large, did not seem crowded
Breakfast was good, only 4 choices (toast/bread or cereal or noodles or eggs--eggs were best value as they came with bread or toast), but all seemed to come with choice of beverage (juice freshly squeezed/coffee/tea) and some fruit.
The staff were very polite, very friendly, and did their best to be helpful. There was always a person at reception with some english, but beyond giving you directions, they couldn't help much. They helped us arrange a tour to the cu chi tunnels. They also helped us get a taxi to the airport. Overall, I would definitely go there again if I'm in HCMC.
Top Local Tips for Ho Chi Minh
How much time in Ho Chi Minh City? HCMC has a few worthwhile sights but a day to a day and a half is enough to see all the sights. It's a good jumping off place for an overnight trip to the Mekong Delta area or a day trip out to the Cu Chi tunnels. Arrange your excursions when you land in HCMC rather than doing it before hand. You'll save yourself money.
Massage services in HCMC Went for massage service in a 3 star hotel but their operation turn out to be sexual-oriented. I have a feeling most massage parlours will offer "extra" services so make sure you confirm that before heading into one.
Riquexos (Cycle cars) They start by wanting only to take you to one place but then start adding others, saying not to worry about the price. We negotiated for one at the beginning but in the end they claimed to have tajke us to more 2 places and showed us a "service table" per hour asking us 4 times more than we offered! So we ended up paying a lot more and still one of the "drivers" was making faces... An awful experience at the end, so make sure you negotiate all at the beginning in order not to be surprised at the end! They want to charge you 15USD per person for a hour... we paid 10 and still thought it was too much.
