Very Good!

A family of four visiting Vietnam for three weeks. Children age 6 and 9.
Stayed at the Renaissance twice. The first time we had the riverview double. The view is nice and interesting but I think that having the view for one nite is enough. Considering the higher rate.
So we booked a cityview double for the second stay. It was a corner room. Huge and better barthroom than the riverview. Then View is next door office building.
Roof top pool is wonderful and a must with kids. Even though the hotel was booked solid the pool area was never grouded. Both sun and shade available there.
Gym is located next to the pool. It is tidy and very well equiped.
Breakfast is five star. Vast selection of japanese, local, chinese and western foods.
This hotel could be just any 4-5 star hotel with nothing exceptional if it was not for the outstanding service attitude. Consierge knows the city and gives good tips that are not printed on every quide book there is. Highly useful.
Roomservice takes less than 3 minutes to deliver ice and such. Every time!
Children are treated with great understanding.
Location is very good. High end boutiques are next door and Ben Tanh market can be reached in 10 minutes on foot. Nice walk and a lot of shops on your way there. So you are at the very city center.

This was in a great location surrounded by streets of boutiques and restaurants. The people were very friendly, professional, and helpful. The gym was very modern and large, with all the amenities. It was open 24 hours a day.

The Renaissance Hotel (5*)was very comfortable and quiet considering all the motor bikes in the street. Breakfast was great and the staff was friendly. The location is perfect for shopping and close to restaurants. We felt safe walking at night because everything was open and close to the hotel. I would stay here again or maybe find a 4* hotel instead, only because we do not need a conference center hotel as a tourist.

Best choice for HCMC

We moved here after one nght in the Caravelle Hotel (see other review). For the same price as a standard room at Caravelle we were given a much larger Deluxe Club room with unobstructed views of the river. Good staff, good service. Room was very quiet in spite of overlooking the river and street. Would certainly choose to stay htere again. I've been to HCMC several times and could kick myself that it took me this long to stay in this hotel.

While we only stayed there for 3 nights we found this Hotel to be top notch. I agree with the other reviewer in that it is a great place to get away from the traffic of downtown Ho Chi Ming City. The hotel is conveniently located and has a beautiful view of the river. The staff is extremely polite and attentive. I have attached a few pictures taken from the pool area.

I recently had a 5 day stay at this wonderful hotel. The staff could not be more helpfull with any request we had, and were always there with a smile. The buffet breakfast would have to be the best I have encounted for variety of styles to suit the various tastes. The room was all you could ask for with a magnificent view over the SaiGon river. The rooftop pool - (a little over chlorinated)also offered the best view over the city and districts. I would stay here again with pleasure.

Splendid haven from the mopeds of HCMC

From the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City, you immediately step into the Renaissance Riverside to a personalised welcome and sense of calm. The hotel is in a great location a short walk from the main shopping and eating area with a view over the Saigon River. The hotel itself is clean, modern, tastefully decorated and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The main restaurant provides an excellent breakfast spread each morning, including freshly cooked eggs or asian food on demand. The bar in the main foyer is small and more of a holding area for new arrivals and leavers, but an excellent bar is located on the 4th floor atrium with views up to the 21st floor! The pool is on the roof - a little daunting for some maybe, but worth it for the view.

Great experience at the Riverside Renaissance

Have stayed twice at this hotel over the past week, for a total of four nights. Overall we found it to be clean, well-appointed, comfortable, and with terrific service. We'd seen some negative comments regarding availabilty of non-smoking rooms, and the rather funky lighting and heating consoles in the rooms. Would have to agree about the gaudy "master console" on the right side of the bed, which contained controls for all the lights, heating, and central audio that can be piped into the room or bathroom. As the control-freak in my family, this ensured my claiming the right side each night, and it struck us as rather ludicrous that one person controls the other's bedside reading lamp. As to the availability of non-smoking rooms, we had no difficulty with this. This may be due in part to having sprung for a club-level room, which was definitely worth the increased rate. When traveling in the US, we always avoid this amenity, but at the Riverside this made all the difference in service and comfort.

excellent hotel, better than the Omni near the airport

Based on previous reviews I read about this hotel on this website, I booked three nights at this hotel on the backend of my honeymoon to Vietnam.

I must say that I was not disappointed by any means. the execute club level was key to the level of attentiveness and service we received. Rooms were fantastic and ultra clean, which is always a question when traveling in Asia. Shower facilites in our room was also excellent. Wonderful kingsize bed. We were situated on the top floor (21) with a river view, but I found the river view to be a bit lacking as the river itself looks filthy, but that's not the hotel's fault.

The club lounge was a huge bonus. Club membership provides free food drinks snacks and desserts, separate check-in/check-out desk, separate concierge service, and 24/7 internet access, although the connection speed was quite slow. On several occassions I asked the concierge service for advise on local restaurants, activities, spas, etc. and found them to be extremely friendly and helpful. I would most definitely stay at this hotel in the future should I be back in Saigon.

Renaissance vs. Sheraton

We just returned from Ho Chi Minh. We stayed at the Renaissance for 8 nights. Overall, I would say the hotel lived up to my expectations. The only complaint I have is that I made my reservation a month in advance and stressed that we would like a non-smoking room. On our arrival, they informed me that they had no non-smoking rooms available. Subsequently, after enduring a 24hr flight we took the room that was available. I later overheard another guest mention that she too requested a non-smoking room and ended up with a smoking room. I think the hotel management needs to realize that for non-smokers, this is a big deal and they need to be more sensitive to this issue. I took a peak at the Sheraton a few blocks away. The rooms are comparable in size. The Sheraton has a slightly nicer bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. Also, their concierges seem to have a better grasp of English and I often found myself walking into their lobby to ask questions. The Renaissance rooms are very nicely maintained, the maid service kept the room impeccable. I found the bed to be comfortable but as mentioned in a previous trip advisor comment, the king size bed is two full size beds pushed together. Comparatively the Renaissance is a very good value and very well located. I should mention that right around the corner located on Dong Koi, is a shop called Freres Nguyen which has wonderful souvenir type items atmuch more reasonbale prices compared to the other stores in the area.

Top Local Tips for Ho Chi Minh

Saigon lovely eccentricities In the central district of the city, you can walk to most attractions. Crossing the street in Viet Nam's unbelievably motorbike-choked cities is a unique and seemingly suicidal experience. Here's how to do it. Remember that there will hardly ever be an "opportune" time to cross, so simply step into the street and walk at steady pace, in a straight line, toward your destination. Drivers will steer around you. You simply must have faith in this system, else you'll not be able to cross streets. Also, use of vehicle horns is for signaling presence, not annoyance, in Viet Nam, so pay no mind to them except to acknowledge that there is a vehicle there. Great dining options abound in the city if you love Asian foods. Some of the poshest meals, with wine, we could find still only came to less than USD20 per person.
