I stayed 2 nights here. My room on the 6th floor was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast buffet was large and had a good variety. Staff that I encountered were all very polite and nice, as was everyone I met in Vietnam. We needed a third bed made up which was carried out by Housekeeping immediately. Service good and friendly.

It is in a fantastic location, street of hotel is close to everything and as scary as it seems Ha Noi is a great walking city, so closed to Hanoi Great Church. Wonderful for our holiday. The staff at the Splendid Star is probably the best part of the stay who were just fabulous and always had a smile on their face!

The staff are extremely helpful and arranged internal flights and excursions and airport transfers prior to arrival. Breakfast is excellent. On arrival we were met Mr David Hao who took us to our room and showed us around, he also provided a map of the area and gave us restaurant recommendations. The room was very nice and clean with its own computer and wireless connection inside,plus fruit basket and small every day, complimentary wine bottle. Highly recommend to everyone.

Everything about the hotel was excellent; staff, breakfast, internet in the rooms, complimentary water bottles and fruit basket each day.
The hotel, at our request, sent a driver to the airport to meet us. We were met in the lobby with tall, fresh fruit drinks, help with our luggage and shown to our rooms on the 5th and 6th floors. There was a complimentary mineral water, mini bar inside room, and WiFi Internet connection was very good also. We wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We enjoyed our stayed in this Hotel. It is very clean and I liked the setting of the room. It is simple and beautiful. The Hotel located nearby the night market so we are able to do some shopping on Saturday night..Perfect location.

The reality exceeds my expectation

The location is superb for people who just go Hong Kong to shop and eat! No worries when going back late at night...the hotel is located in a busy area. To shopping plaza was about 10mins walk.... you wouldn't be bored while walking to the lake....shops there can be quite tempting for you to stop for! Overall, hotel was alright, good location, reasonable rates. Cleanliness of room, room size, toilet cleanliness were all acceptable. Would stay here again if going back to Hanoi.

Really lovely hotel

We stayed at Splendid Star Hotel for three nights in November. The hotel is 5 minutes away from the center of Hanoi ,there is a frequent service during the day ($45 or so per person). We also took up the owner's offers to give us a ride into town a few times - they offer a pick-up and drop-off service as part of the price.

Helpful service, very nice staff. A great breakfast buffet came with the room. The hotel provides an Internet connection (24h) and coffee,even they provide inside my room a nice desktop with many equipments are integrated. Our only problem: we couldn't find some decent, moderately priced restaurants in the immediate vicinity. On the other hand, location is very close to the Great Church and shopping street.

Small luxury hotel

This hotel is fine as long as you need a place to sleep near an excellent location. It's not far from the nearest subway and close to busy shopping district. The breakfast buffet is poor. They could easily improve the quality without much additional expense. At least better made scrambled eggs and better tea and coffee would have made a big difference. The hotel was busy and no one helped with our luggage. Of course we really could manage without help (suit cases with wheels). Internet Connection, WiFi for free everytime in the lobby was useful. Travel desk was very helpful with local tours and directions. There was no plugpoint for shavers in the bathroom. Splendid Star Hotel at Hanoi are high compared to other city in Vietnam. I would recommend the hotel,unless someone is only used to extravagance and luxury.

Believable hospitality

The hospitality at this small and friendly hotel is unbelievable. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and his staff. They made my stay so wonderful that I extended my time there from 2 days to 1 week. The booking was very smooth via the hotel website and I was given option of different packages for my budget.
The hotel is situated right and is in easy walking distance of the cities facilities.If you travel in Hanoi please check out this hotel you will not be disappointed.

Not loing it so much

Stayed at the Splendid Star for 3 nights in November. It was a standard hotel, but the price was too steep! 76 Euro a night for a standard/budget hotel in Vietnam is all too much. While we were here it rained all the time, which meant that the walls of your room were covered in moist/water. Also we apparently stayed at one of the crappy rooms, cause there was absolutely NO view. I.e. only 10 cm to the next building.

'Not loving it so much' is saying that 76 euro for a standard room for three nights is too much. We think this is a reasonable rate for our rooms. The rate includes a number of things that other hotels charge for - such as free internet and wi fi, free breakfast, DVD players in every room and free all day coffee and tea. We also think that our rooms are a good size, and we work hard to ensure that they are clean and well serviced with towels etc.
As 'not loving it so much' said, our standard rooms do not have a view. However, this is also the case with the standard rooms of other hotels, so we think this is reasonable. Rooms with a view are available, at a slightly higher rate, but generally need to be booked ahead.
The comments from 'not loving it so much' are disappointing but we think that our overall rating on this website shows that most people think that they got good value for money at Splendid Star.

Splendid Star Hotel - Brilliant Service

19. Nice hotel in the most quiet area in Hanoi, especially close to St Joseph’s Cathedral. During the trip in Hanoi, I lived in two hotels. I found staff in Splendid Star more helpful, including those at the reception, in the restaurant and of the housekeeping. I'm impressed. I'd recommend this hotel to young couples or budget .Good for shoppers because Nightmarket and shopping centre are within walking distance. The hotels provides a user-friendly dinner and map showing locations of bars, massage shops and restaurants nearby.

Excellent service - great location!

Great location only seconds from Joesphs Church. Modern hotel with A/C in all rooms. Wifi available throughout hotel. Breakkfast was reasonable. Rooms in middle of floor can be quite small with no windows. Aim for a room at the rear of the hotel if possible. Small rooms are ok for short stays. The real highlight was the friendly staff and excellent customer service. For the price of USD$44 (via expedia) and USD$30 (direct through hotel) - you can't beat the combination of value for money, location and great service. I would definately recommend this hotel.

I had to travel to Hanoi for my work. I would work there together with two colleagues. One of them found Splendid Star Hotel via the internet, possibly even through TripAdvisor. Wonderful how these things work.

Email communication as to the reservation, pick up at the airport, length of stay, etcetera, was excellent. Airport pick up accurate. The driver accepted to drop another traveler, whom we met in the airplane, at her hotel (which was not Splendid Star Hotel).

I find Splendid Star Hotel very OK. The location is excellent, service is perfect, and the atmosphere is pleasant. The staff are friendly and, perhaps more importantly, rather responsive. Since I have to work here I needed a table in my room. I requested a table in the morning. The same evening a brand new desk had been installed in my room with a desktop computer, with internet access, on it.

There are of course small inconveniences. And the first review is right about some problems with the evacuation of water. These are small things, however, and can be solved easily. I travel almost continuously and practically every hotel I stay, even the more luxurious ones, have problems with the evacuation of water (I never understood this, but OK).

And we have to be clear about one thing. The price here is 36 $ per day (and we even get a discount because we stay more than a week or so). I think what you get in Splendid Star Hotel is splendid, for that money.

So, recommended!

great staff

We just return from Splendid on 21 Oct 2008. Hotel room is new, neat and clean though slightly small.

Basically the staff were informative and helpful. They gave good advice on where to have good and cheap Vietnamese food.

They even help us catch cabs to places we want to go. And they are about 13 of us.

We did enjoy our stay with Splendid. Hope that you will too.

Brilliant Accommodation

Wife and I were exhausted and had just had an argument with a taxi driver. So was glad to get warmly treated and relaxed within minutes of being at the Hotel. We stayed for one night before going to Halong Bay. But we made sure we went back and stayed another night on the way back as you just can't get more friendly staff. The second night they put us on the top floor and had a balcony where from there you can see the church and its square.
Brilliant location, right price and the most helpful staff. I would stay again if I return to Hanoi.

Using the reviews on Tripadvisor, we expected a lot. But it rather turned out different. We started our first night in an other hotel, because our flightinformation would have been incorrect. We found this weird, as we mailed the flightnumber. The hotel we stayed the first night, looked like how Splendid Star is now: well built, but no maintenance. The hotel was filthy and the room wasn't clean. But this wasn't the Splendid Star, but a good friend.

So after the first night we checked in in our new room in Splendid Star. Altough the room was new, it already suffered from water in the walls. Decay already started. The airconwater plunges directly in the bathroom, so when you take a douche, you end up standing in the water from the aircon. Furthermore the water isn't correctly carried off. Standing on a wooden floor, the gutters lay vertical on the hole of the waste. So the water runs to the closet instead and we ended up standing in our own water while using the closet. Which was a triumph for my girlfriend, doing over 1.80 meter: she didn't manage to get herself on the closet properly, because the wall is too close.

The generosity we liked the first hours, faded quickly when the staff found out we would like to be on our own. We almost found ourselves crude, because we didn't want to talk to the staff. Their attitude was to speak and behave in a way we didn't expect from a hotel. Touching us saying 'friend' isn't what we expect from a hotel-owner. Their presence in the morning almost became annoying, specially because orders for breakfast suffered under their ideas of service. Asking for a black coffee ended several times in white coffee or tea.

But how did we compare this hotel in Hanoi? After we spend three days in Halong Bay, we returned to Hanoi and headed for Elegance 4. There we stayed he first night in a comparable prized room. Service was excellent and the room was state-of-the-art. Sitting on our bed, we realized Splendid Star is a great copy of Elegance 4, but it has a lot to learn.

Thank you for enquiring on how our holiday had gone. May I take this opportunity to say that the accommodation was immaculate, spotlessly clean, every need was account for, including those nick knacks that may have been forgotten when packing to go on holiday, such as a tooth brush, cotton buds etc

Rose and Tony commended for both their attentiveness and friendliness, we felt welcome and relaxed

The food selection was good and very enjoyable. Activities were covered in great detail, if you wish to go walking, sight seeing, and there was plenty of literature of the surrounding areas within the rooms.

The location was perfect.

Tips for other travellers, book early. Any one looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you, total relaxation, but still within easy reach of the local restaurants, pubs, and surrounding areas, if you wish to venture out.

Great service

It was my first trip alone, i bought a return ticket to hanoi, booked one night's accomodation at splendid star, and i was ready for an adventure. I arrived late at the hotel (around 7pm, dark already), but they helped me to arrange everything - my trip to ha long bay, trekking and homestay in Sapa (which was amazing), to squeeze into my tight schedule of 5 days. And they gave me rooms to shower/rest in, in between my bus/train/plane rides.

I was lucky enough to stay in a wonderfully clean and quiet room at Splendid Star for a week. The staff there are wonderful and go out of their way to help you - when leaving I had a night bus to catch and they let me shower and rest up before leaving, even though I'd already checked out. Thanks for a great stay!

Top Local Tips for Hanoi

Great sevice in small hotel ! Staff are very nice and friendly. Breakfast is on the loby so you can see some of Hanoi views, they served Pho ( Vietnamese soup - delicious), also fresh eggs made to order. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Great value for money. Room size was excellent and location was great. Hotel staff were very helpful and courteous.I would most definately return to the hotel on my next visit to Hanoi and would recommend same to family and friends. Thanks Splendid Star Hotel al ot !

Ecxellent The staff are also capable of speaking good English so it's a big, big help. The owner, Mr. Hiep, who trained in France for the hotel business, is always willing to help.
