Reviewers: From Gold Coast, Australia
We recently stayed at the Rising Dragon in September 2007 and can't say enough good things about it. It's greatest asset is the people there. Though our stay was only a few days we used it as a base while seeing other attractions after our stay.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. We booked Halong Bay & Sapa tours from them. Excellent. They helped us with Flight bookings, buses & taxis all over the north. Owners Hien & Ginger are great people & have great staff such as Thuy & Thuan.
We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Nothing beats helpful, friendly, courteous people. Good luck.

RIsing Dragon in the heart of Old Hanoi
from Le_monde_de_TinaThe staff is very attentive, and friendly. They have helped us go through some day trips and overnighters, arranged for train trips that helped us use Hanoi as our base throughout Vietnam. Shopping is easy in this location as there are blocks and blocks of excellent shops and restaurants that are all a great value.
This hotel is very clean, has free internet and wifi throughout. The breakfast is free and just right choices for the price. We had inner courtyard rooms that were quiet even during the busy mid day.
The Rising Dragon - a happy experience
from zulahGood value. Great service
from 2toothpicksThe hotel locates right in the middle of the Old Quarter, just one block from Hoan Kiem lake. A short walk from the hotel are some of our favorite places such as the City View restaurant, the Highland coffee shop, the Little Hanoi restaurant, and the Thang Long Water Puppet theater...
The standard room we had for $25 USD per night is roomy, nice and super clean. The queen size bed is comfortable with thick mattress and a surprisingly luxurious comforter. It even has 2 colorful throw pillows in addition to 2 standard queen-size ones. The TV is big for Vietnam standard. The refrigerator is full of drinks with reasonable prices - certaintly not with 4 to 5 times jacked-up in-room prices as in most American hotels. Most of the amenities are of American standard. While this room did not have a bathtub, we did not find any problem with the shower. We also did not mind that the hotel lacked of an elevator. We considered it was our routine dose of excersize to take the stair walk - after all, fitness facilities are still rare in Vietnam.
Customer services at this hotel were what impressed us the most. The managing manager, Mr. Hieu Vu, and his staffs are cheerful, kind and friendly. We felt as if they would do anything to make their guests happy. The free pick-up offer at the airport surprised us. We did not expect this kind of service in a 2-star hotel in downtown areas. Considering the distance between the airport and the hotel, we paid $15 USD to be picked up from another hotel in the same area upon arrival. While staying at the Rising Dragon, I mentioned that to Mr. Hieu and he readily offered to take us back to the airport at the end of our trip, free of charge. Now, I do not know if any other hotels can beat that.
All in all, I would like to thank Mr. Hieu Vu and his entire staffs for giving my wife and I an enjoyful, relaxing vacation. It would be in our memory for a long time to come. As chances permitted, we'll certainly come back and of course, in the meantime, would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyyone.

good value
from begbie4Rising Dragon Hotel Hanoi - Review
from qtchameRising Dragon Hotel exceeded my expectations! The room we stayed at is very niceand clean. I admit it was a little cramped inside but what's important is that I got a good night's rest after a very busy day in Hanoi. The bed is good, aircon is working properly, TV has a lot of channels (in english), and the bath room has hot water and a tub.
Plus the staff are very friendly and helpful. They helped arrange our Halong Bay tour and gave us directions to good restaurants and tourist spots! They even told us where to buy items that I want to buy such as backpacks. The hotel is in a good location too as it's just a couple of minutes away from the lake and near the shops and restaurant.
My only complain is that the hotel does not have a lift and we stayed at the 5th floor.
But, I will surely stay again at this hotel. Highly recommended!
I love it

Top Local Tips for Hanoi
Bargaining is a must Buy your trip directly with the tour company if you need one, you must bargain with them, they are willing to give discount, the price on the website or on the wall in their office is not the set price, it is a suggestion detail price.
shady taxi drivers one taxi driver tried to charge me double the price. be sure your taxi has a meter! i had to argue with this man (not sure of the company, he made me so mad -- they have green cars) for my change. apparently this is not uncommon, so be careful. i kept arguing with him and he insisted i needed to pay more because i was a foreigner. eventually i got my money back, but not without the driver trying to intimidate me.
Eat pho for breakfast I know it sounds weird to eat noodle soup for breakfast, but consider this - in a hot climate, you'll be sweating a lot, losing both salt and fluid. Pho replenishes both of these, since it's salty and liquid. On our first morning, my girlfriend had bread with jam, and I had pho... I had greater endurance than her, so the next day she tried eating pho, and sure enough, that day she was fine. So if you're wearing out early, give it a try.
