We were at the hotel for 5 days and it was really great. The staff was helpfull and very friendly and the location was just perfect near the lake in the old quarter. And even though Hanoi is a town with a lot of noise, the hotel and the rooms were very quiet. Our room was cheap, but extremly good. For 20 dollars you get aircondition, tv, good beds, very clean and good bathroom and a minibar. We ordered trips to Halong Bay and Sapa at the hotel, and both trips were probably the best we went on during our travelling in Vietnam. We spent 4 nights and 3 days in Sapa and we climbed the highest mountain in Vietnam (Fansipan) absolutely great. We really recommend you to go to the hotel and we recommend you to order your trips as well in hotel. You have to do it if you want a unforgetable trip!!!
Can't recommend this highly enough...

Hanoi and a place to stay If you've ever been to Hanoi you must come. Its a little bit of heaven in a chaotic world and the old town has never changed. The streets and shops still retain the feeling from centuries gone by with some modern changes. You can take a cyclo, or walk or a motorbike. Sit by Hoan Kiem Lake and watch the world go by, sip a Vietnamese iced coffee and barter int he markets. After negotiating the traffic system and taking your life in your hands as you cross the road, you'll need a friendly place to stay. Can I recommend a beautiful hotel in the heart of the old quarter called the Hanoi RiverSide Hotel. Its a beautiful hotel with a romantic feel to it - all the rooms are spotlessly clean, kitted out with mod cons, excellent air con, lovely bathrooms, and a real bonus is the free ADSL internet and computers in all the rooms. Ask for the room at the top and you won't be disappointed, particularly with the city views. Apart from the 2 star feel and quality (and the price of the rooms isn't expensive), the thing that makes the hotel stand out even more is the fab staff who work there. They will make you feel part of the family, they are very special people who will soon become your good friends. It won't be long before this hotel becomes a firm favourite for travellers, tourists and business people alike - it offers so much to a range of people. You really should come and check this place out and see for yourself. Guys at the Lonely Planet if you don't know about this hotel its one excellent hotel that is missing from your recommended list of hotels for travellers and people will miss out. We had the Hanoi RiverSide recommended to us by some other travellers and couldn't have been happier with our stay there. It's recently opened and therefore everything is new, clean and in perfect working order. The rooms are spacey, the beds are comfortable and the cable TV has all the channels!! All of the staff are really friendly and helpful. We booked a tour through the travel desk and they looked after our bags while we were gone and had a room waiting for us when we returned. The location is perfect for exploring the old quarter and all of the museums (everthing's in easy walking distance). Can't recommend it enough.

Top Local Tips for Hanoi

choosing a hotel Be very carefull when choosing a hotel theres some really good ones and also alot of bad ones with only a dollar or to in price differance

Cigarettes, DVDs and diamonds The street vendors sold cigatettes at half the duty free shops prices, DVDs were $1 each, black market copies with quality ranging from camcorder in the front row to master disk copies depending on the newness of the film, diamonds were 2/3s the cost of Bangkok prices, be careful of the added setting cost, make sure you buy as a package from the start, bargain, bargain, bargain, they will deal, and do the regular must call the owner first, even when they are the owner. Bargaining goes for most everything. Name brand and duty free items were the same price as in every other Southeast Asian country, in otherwords no values here, just a smaller selection. Food in Hanoi airport was terrible and expensive. Food in Hanoi was excellent and inexpensive.

Wandering Have a good wander around the Old quarter for great local food and soome fun bars!! just be careful when crossing the bigger roads!
