Though a great location, the place is way more expensive than most hostels in the area. be sure to bargain. I will say that we paid a fair price for the Ha Long Tour, especially considering that 3 other people on the tour paid over 20USD more than we did for the same tour. Long story short, be sure to shop around and NEVER book on the internet.

The rooms weren't terrible, but for $20/night you'd expect a lot more, especially when you find out that the other people there were spending $10 for the same room... why the deviation? We bought bus tickets without checking other prices first (learned my lesson) and ended up being ripped off for USD $20. we got on that bus, which we paid more for cause it was supposed to be a better bus - complete with leg room, air con and reclining seats and ended up getting a bus with no air con, people smoking inside it, suspension so awful we hit our heads on the roof and... wait for it... FLEAS! We went back to the hotel and all we got was lies. They FINALLY agreed to give us free rooms for the night and immediately asked us to book another ticket (more expensive, but "much" better)...
The accommodation itself was fine and I would sleep there again but absolutely shop around for prices before buying... and judging by the other comments on here, we weren't the first to be had. The people who left good notes probably never knew what hit em! Best of luck!

We have had a great expeience here in Hanoi. Davin and his family have been very helpful arranging our trip to Halong Bay and the national park which were both amazing.
The hotel has been a really good value and we can easily recommend staying here.

The family was very helpful. It was late when we arrived, and this was our first time in Vietnam. The hostel was lovely and luxurious for the price - air conditioning, hot water, TV - all really nice! They arranged our trips because we only had a short time in Vietnam. It was very helpful to see all the things we wanted to without trying to sort it ourselves or try and sort out trains and taxis. They made us very welcomed. They always had a room for us to use when we came back for a sleep or shower. The trips were fantastic, and the accommodation was brilliant. We can highly recommend this place and their trips!

The plus side of this hostel was the location, it was right in the old quarter but mind the rats when you walk out the door. The minus with this hostel was that David the guy who runs it is always trying to sell you something or get you to sit down and buy a trip etc etc. We didn't like being pushed about, he organised a train ticket for us and we've subsequently found out he over charged us by about £20 GBP, which is a lot of money to the Vietnamese -he was very untrustworthy. We had to ask for clean towels, well they weren't really towels more like dish cloths and the shower is hand held so if you enjoy swimming in your bathroom this is the place for you. I would definitely not recommend this hostel to my worst enemy, there are cheaper hotels that are allot nicer. Very disappointed.

We enjoyed our stay, the place is easily access, friendly staff, clean and a lot less noisy than other places.
We met quite a few Malaysians who seem to enjoy their stay too.
We wish to thank David and his team for such a wonderful stay in Hanoi. And we were glad that we went to Halong Bay, wonderful place!

Pluses: Decent location, and the rooms were pretty nice. Managed to negotiate a pretty decent rate.
Minuses: excessively pushy staff. If you don't mind being looked at as a big dollar sign ($), then perhaps you won't mind, but I certainly did. You get the feeling that they're always out to dupe you. For example, one of the staffers asked me if I could change some of my VND with him for some US dollars. I agreed to, and he tried to screw me over on the change! When I got angry, he said it was a tip! Every time you come or go, they are hounding you about buying trips, which they will try to overcharge you for. Unless all the other places are full, I'd advise you to keep looking.

I stayed there for 2 nights. Room is terrible. They arranged the tour for us ( Halong Bay ) and overcharged us!

We can hgighly recomend this place and their trips!

not good hotel When we arrived the staff gave us a key and pointed up stairs, they gave us no information what so ever! walked up three very steep flights of stairs (not recommended for anyone with walking problems) to our room which was very small, had no window, dirty bed sheets, incomplete room and generally very dingy. Other problems included: the breakfast, no choice, butter was listed as an option. Very rude and unhelpful staff. Paper thin walls in the rooms meant you could hear the staff in the lobby all night shouting and screaming. Days 5 & 6 of our stay we had a power cut both nights that lasted for several hours the staff did nothing. on day 6 we were using the free internet (the only good thing about the hotel until it broke!)then the staff decided to start having a huge argument screaming and shouting at each other in front of us. If you do choose this hotel, be quiet as you go down the stairs in the morning as most of the staff are sleeping on the floor in the lobby. Would not recommend to anyone as you can find much cheaper and better value for money hotels in Hanoi
