Our trip to Viet nam was 14 days from Sai Gon, Hoi An, Hue and up to Hanoi. The Duc Thai hotel was my best choice after recommending by tripadvisor. It was more than expected!!! Great for value!!! Picked up airport service in time, warmly welcome at the reception, helpful tour information staff. As conversation with Tom about the summer promotion,we booked 03 days 02 nights for Ha Long bay trip with Indochinal sails with the best price comparing any travel agent I had checked before. I felt really relaxed and pleasant to our trip.
Up to this time, we still have lasting memories of the friendly and generous staff that made our trip to Viet Nam so enjoyable and more perfect. We would likely stay here again and strongly recommend this hotel to every traveler.

My family was warmly welcomed at the airport as well as at the reception by friendly and helpful staff. The hotel with good location, near a lot of shops, café and restaurants, good breakfast , ... and especially perfect English speaking staff. The room was so clean with nice street view from window. However, the street is crazy lots of motorcycles, be careful walking across the road. Our family stayed at Duc Thai hotel for 3 nights before booking the Ha Long Bay trip for 3 days cruising and 2 days Sapa trek through Mr Tom. The trip was excellent!!! It was really enjoyable!!! Furthermore, Mr Tom gave us affordable and well organized info about the trip in the South of Vietnam. In general, staying the Duc Thai hotel was best choice during our trip to South East Asia. I would likely to recommend to every budget traveller.

My partner and I, and a friend stayed at the Duc Thai Hotel in Hanoi this July. I booked by contacting the hotel direct via their website and my request was dealt with immediately by the exceptionally friendly and professional Mr Tom.

I also booked a 2 night cruise on a luxury junk in Halong Bay through Mr Tom and the trip was fantastic and all that we hoped for.

Mr Tom arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport, the airport is a good 40 minutes away from the Old Quarter so there is a charge for this service. Once we arrived at the hotel the staff were very friendly and helpful and would endeavour to help you with any request. The location of the hotel is great, right in the middle of the Old Quarter so you are just a short walk from all the sights. Even though the hotel is quite small the rooms are nice and big with lovely dark wood furniture. There is a lift which was a blessing and breakfast is included.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and stay there again if I was ever to go back to Hanoi.

Also, Mr Tom spent hours helping us arrange accommodation in Hoi An, as everywhere we tried was full, he found us a lovely hotel and arranged a good rate for us.

Full marks for customer service to Mr Tom and his staff!

We reachexd Duc Thai Hotel upon the recommendation of friends who were already staying there. The staff was immediately helpful, especially since we arrived past 1 in the morning and were weary from traveling. They took our bags to the room and we found it to be clean and hospitable- definitely worth the inexpensive boarding fee. In the morning Mr. Tom gave us a map of the city and directed us to some places we should see- even though we still got lost, we realized the hotel's location is great for pedestrian exploration of Hanoi. Later inteh day, Mr. Tom helped us to arrange two different trips for reasonable prices for the remainder of our Vietnam trip. We were even able to shower at the hotel when we arrived back in Hanoi inbetween our shorter adventures. I am pleased to recommend Duc Thai to anyone coming to Vietnam for the first, second or any time after that!

Situated in the heart of the French old town of Hanoi the Duc Thai Hotel exemplifies the term “Five Star Service”. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and the staff of the Duc Thai Hotel overwhelmed me with their kindness and generosity. From helping me plan a day in the city to personally showing me experiences away from the touring crowds, the management made sure I was more than satisfied.
The hotel has all the amenities for a cost conscience traveler, including clean rooms, cable TV, air conditioner, and a full breakfast for free. In addition, they operate a full travel agency and can help arrange travel to amazing places like Sapa or flights to other countries/cities. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel especially when I tell you the price! Only $40 a night with no hidden charges. What else can I say? A must stay!
Nice Hotel

Very diappointed with the hotel and service. Room was clean but too narrow and windowless. However the location was so good.
Great hotel in 36 streets_old quarter.

Our family travel to Vietnam every years to visit my family in Sai Gon but is the first time in Hanoi.I'd decided not to go through booking agents but direct - first time in the new place(I'am vietnamese American). We went thru some of the recommendations by my friends and guests staying in Hanoi. In the end, we relied on Shaw Tracey's recommendations(retired Autralian couple)- emailed ahead - and settled on Duc Thai hotel. Well, we were very impressed with the Duc Thai Hotel. Sure,it isn't a big hotel by any means - but that didn't mean a thing. Accessed by an elevator, nice restaurant, wood furnitures in classical style...
Friendly, clean, efficient and genuinely interested in what we were doing in Vietnam without being overly inquisitive. The services is great. We also booked our tours through them - and were happy with the service. The Vietnamese are gentle and obliging - and the people we met at Duc Thai were exemplarily.
We would have no hesitation in going back to either hotel if ever we visit Hanoi again. And we strongly recommend the hotel to anyone.
Go - you won't be disappointed.
Thanks alot,Shaw.
Duong Shame.

Budget beauty

from Mindimoo
For a budget bargain, this place was pretty good! Only two rooms on each floor meant our street side room was a quiet as a room in the old quarter of Hanoi could probably get.

Comfy beds complete with extra pillows and warm duvets were a great reminder that our own beds were not far away. Decent TV for those nights where staying in was a treat, and good internet access most of the time made this an easy place to stay.

Located on the edge of the old quarter (10 minutes to the top of the lake) Duc Thai meant we could remove ourselves from the old quarter madness a little. A cunning little wiggle through a few streets put us down by the cathedral quickly without having to navigate the lakeside traffic (hawkers and scooters alike).

The rooms were clean, towels always fresh and the aircon worked well.

Tom, the manager, gave great advice about places to eat - check out the Cha Ca restaurant around the corner, and packed us off for a 2 day, 1 night of Halong Bay with Columbus Tours which was well worth the time, money and effort!

Anything I'd want to be different? Sometimes the smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the room quite strongly. Breakfast was definately not a delight - there's only so much baguette, warm egg, warm fruit and jelly jam a girl can handle in one trip. At the end of mine, breakfast was a more pleasant experience if I left Duc Thai and found somewhere with a little more choice.

Still, I'd stay here again...great for a budget, feels safe and the staff are definately friendly.

Duc Thai hotel

from Emma1963
We stayed at the duc thai for 7 nights, it was great the staff were really helpful, the beds were great and while it isn't right in the back packing area that worked for us as it was alittle quieter than the hussle and buste of down town. It is a easy walk to all the shopping areas and to the french quarter and related attractions. So well recomend. They also arranged a trip to Halong bay which was just awesome.

Friendly people - good hotel - love Hanoi

from Tristan7706
We went to Duc Thai on our second visit to Hanoi. At our first visit we slept in a much more expensive hotel. The Duc Thai was at least as good as our first hotel. Good rooms, free internet, very friendly staff (with a lot of knowledge about dutch soccer) everyone speaking fluently english. I would really reccomend this hotel to anyone. It's in the middel of the old quarter, just a few minutes walk to the lake.

Best Hanoi Hotel

from ChuKhaled
"Best Hanoi Hotel Deals" Coming to Hanoi, I realised that my hotel was not correct as my travel agent promised. Checking on tripadvisor, phoned directly Mr Tom to ask for the room.Luckily, It was still available. To be pick up by helpful athletic staff after 5 minutes.Well, perfectly!!!It was mini hotel with 7 floor, small restaurant, elevator.... and especially super clean.Staying there for 03 nights before going to Hue.I was really satisfied about the Hotel during the time in Hanoi.

Good budget hotel

from anderbru
The staff and facility at this hotel made it an excellent choice for a budget conscious traveller. The rooms are spacious and clean and the elevator was an added bonus after a hot day trudging around the streets of Hanoi. The staff are working hard on their customer relations. The breakfast provided didn't quite cut it . I never did like cold rubbery eggs.

Helpful Staff

from longbeans
The hotel was located in the Old Quarters and is within walking distance to most attractions. Hotel room is clean and hotel staff are very helpful. The hotel manager, Tom took the initiative to introduce the main attractions and highlighted the areas on the map that he gave to us. On the last day in Hanoi, though we had checked out before 12noon, Tom offered us the shower facilities (provided there is a room available) so that we can freshen up before we leave for the airport at 6pm.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

Better than a large upmarket hotel anyday

from cocomolly
We booked our accommodation directly with Tom via the internet, and everything went to plan. We were picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel where we were met by Tom and his friendly staff. The hotel was as described on their web site. We loved the location in the old quarter, we actually felt like we were in authentic Vietnam. Tom arranged a fantastic overnight boat trip on Halong Bay and then an overnight train to Hue and our accommodation in Hue with pickup at the train. We returned to the hotel after our boat trip and were offered a room so we could shower and freshen up before the train trip (even though we were not longer guests). Then a staff memeber drove us to the train station and would not accept payment or a tip. Thank you Tom for starting our trip to Vietnam on such a positive note.

Excellent Staff

from 123456789101112
I stayed in this hotel in the old quarter with my husband and 4 yr old. I didn't look at any other hotels to compare, but this one was fine and a fair value in my estimation. Our triple room was spacious (for a big city) and clean. Most important of all, the staff was very capable and reliable. Airport pickup/dropoff (for a fee) went without a hitch. They helped us change our flight date on Vietnam Airlines. They helped us find out about tickets to the water puppet show. They pointed out destinations on maps. And they booked our boat trip to Ha Long Bay. There are a bunch of different outfits which do the trips, but the 2 night trip we went on through them was very well run and we really liked it. I was happy with this place because it was a good location with trustworthy staff.

They also have some perks like free internet with a good connection, free breakfast (nothing to write home about, but hey- it's free), an elevator, and a bathtub.

One thing I didn't know about and wasn't explained to us: when you leave your room they switch the electricity off at the circuit breaker level. So you have to make sure it's on when you come back (I think they try to do this for you but one time they forgot and we couldn't figure out how to get the air conditioner to work. We called them and they switched it on).
