Top Local Tips for Hanoi

Be prepare to wear Face Mask and Ear Pulses. I traveled to many Far East countries, but never before I had running nose, coughing, snizzing and ear aches during my 10 days stay in the heart of Hanoi. If it weren't for personal business I would have gone home much earlier. I have never experienced such huge amount of motorcycles and vehicles around in such a city with a population of 3-4 millions. I'd think over half would owns a motorcycle here. The traffic law if any have a lot to be desire. No driver here obeys the traffic laws at all. There is no such things of 'The Right of Way' in Vietnam. The drivers WILL NOT stop for you while you're crossing the street. You must slowly creep out one step at a time and say your PRAY, that you make it across...NO JOKE! Would I ever go back to Vietnam for a visit. Maybe on my last lap to heaven.

Rather shop elsewhere I found it difficult to shop and unpleasant. Firstly it is very busy on the streets so it is difficult to walk with motorbikes parked on the pavements and alot of pedaestrians ( in HMC the locals don't walk - they are all on their bikes) and more cars that HMC-and if possible, more hooting. I found a lot of the shopkeepers did not seem that interested to do business with Westerners - they were just rude and unfriendly and unwilling to negotiate on their high prices that's if they even bothered to give you a price. It was a take it or leave it attitude at best and many didn't seem to speak any English. So my advice would be do your shopping elsewhere! Any where else! Whatever you do don't leave your shopping for Hanoi, you will get better prices and attitudes in HMC.
