Advise on Taxi Reasonable taxi charge from this hotel to old quarters should be about USD5 or VND80,000. Some taxi claimed to use meter but the meter charge can "eventually" ended up double!! If you pre-confirmed the charge at VND80k, you will find the meter charge at about VND40 ~ 50K only!! Maybe some tourist authority should pick this issue up.

Goto KOTO Try a meal at Koto cafe/restaurant- near the Temple of Literature. Check their website as staffed by street people. Good range, prices affordable, good reputation. BUT you must prebook as it is SO busy (we saw 40-50 people politely turned away for lunch on a Thursday simply because they were full)

Beware taxis Always get a price in advance. The hotel called a special “airport taxi” for transportation to the airport and quoted a fixed price. Upon arrival, the driver tried to increase the price by another 25 percent. However, far worse was the experience of a friend coming into town. One of our group made the mistake of taking a regular curbside taxi. She was taken to a different part of town and robbed of her cash. Beware
