This is the 4th visit to this hotel, staying at the Grande villas flat & duplex. These rooms are only for 4 persons. My kids love the duplex as they like climbing up & down the stairs. This Sept, we were upgraded to the Pool villa, which had pool access. The kids loved the idea & were in the pool like thrice daily. Breakfast at Puccini was very good, with your own selection served plus a small buffet. The elephants walking around were nice. A new addition called Lily the baby elephant together with Yum Yum, the older elephant was a nice surprise. Beach is very clean & cool drinks provided by the hotel is definitely a plus. Kids could borrow DVDs anytime. The sad part was they stopped providing kids bathrobes. The Italian pizza is very good.

The Sheraton Grande Laguna is part of Sheraton's Luxury Collection. I have stayed at other Luxury Collection resorts previously (Sheraton Laguna Nusa Dua), and from that experience the Grande Laguna Phuket looked like it needed a bit of an overhaul to keep it in line with the "luxury" standard of other properties.

However the rooms are adequate, the pool is fabulous, and the assortment of restaurants, bars, etc available to guests through the Laguna network of resorts is second to none. I would note that when we stayed it was not peak season, and therefore not all restaurants and services were available. For example the Tea House restaurant did not open once in the 10 days we stayed, and the Hawker's Market is also obviously a high-season thing.

Staffs in the various “eateries” are always pleasant and helpful, and anyone traveling with small children (fewer than two) will find the staff is attracted to your child like moths to a light. (We didn't travel with a child, but noted those who did)

Taxis and tuktuks are readily available - they will be cheaper if you get one outside the resort (i.e. just outside the main entrance). Also be careful of the sunken bath in most rooms - the stairs down into the bath/shower are tiled and very slippery when wet. This resulted in me having 14 stitches in my toes for the majority of my stay; this highlighted some areas that needed attention by Guest Services (We asked for a first aid kit, someone turned up with a broom. When we finally got a first aid kit it certainly didn't come with anyone adequately trained to use it. While they did make a booking at the local medical surgery for further medical attention, they did not provide any further services to make my stay with a bandaged foot that I couldn't walk on any easier, even though the injury was due to their stupid tiled bathroom steps. We had to ask four times for a wheelchair, and were told it was being used by a conference group as a prop (!) and we had to wait until they had finished with it. We also had to fight tooth and nail for a late checkout, even though we already knew the hotel was only 30% full and I still had a heavily bandaged foot)

However, if after reading all that you're put off, don't be. The property IS lovely with good amenities, and one of the best in the area. We will certainly be going back.

for girls & families: beware According to my friend, prostitution is legal in Phuket. So this is like vegas on an island. The center of town, especially at night, is crawling with "working girls". I am asian, but I'm a business woman. It was kind of degrading to be thought of as one of them, since men, from time to time, would brush my hand or shoulder asking to "talk". As if! Anyways, if you have kids, stay away from Patong at night. This is not a place to bring you children. For single women, oh well, if you still insist to go here at night, brave the crowd. It's a meat party. During the day, there are some good deals for fake stuff, if you're into it, and souvenirs.

Tours. 1) Bargain hard to any tour.You get the best price at the beach.Make sure you see James Bond Island, The Similans,the Phi Phi Islands.A private speed boat is the best way to see them.
