Historical Traveller Reviews of Club Andaman Beach Resort Hotel

Good place but seriously overpriced

from WexfordTheresa
We arrived here on feb 21st and stayed 11 days. The rooms are clean and spacious, just make sure that you close the wooden blinds in the loo otherwise the person in the bedroom has a birdseye view!
We paid € 1,450. through ebookers and it was way too much for a 3 star hotel. If we had booked directly we would have saved approx €350. Book early to get a much better hotel for a lot less money. The staff were nice and breakfasts fine. The grounds are very lovely, an oasis in the hustle bustle of Patong. There is quite a lot of construction ongoing in the area.

Perfect for family

from EliSato
The resort is beautiful, the staff is good and the location and pools are excellent. The resort is perfect for those who travel with family.
You should take the tour which goes to all the must seen islands in one day. Don't waste your time, neither your money looking for tours outside the resort. We did it and we ended finding out that it's cheaper and safer buying the tickets at the resort desk tour.
Don't rent jet skiis on the beach. It's dangerous and they don't have insurance.
Outside the resort, there are many restaurants. We found a very cheap and good italian one one block from the resort. Leaving the resort facing the beach, you go left and turn in the first street to the left, it's the only italian one on the left side, about 50 meters before you get to the next traffic light.

Love this place!

My husband and I stayed here for four days in January. We didn't want to leave, and we are not even beach vacation people! The staff was uniformly friendly and charming, especially the tour guide coordinator, the room was large and cleaned every morning (I hate coming back from an excursion exhausted and having to wait for the room to be cleaned -- this was not an issue at Club Andaman), and the grounds were simply gorgeous and tropical. There was a mother cat and her kittens on the grounds that were very amusing to watch, at least for cat lovers like us. The Andaspa was also great - we got a scrub, wrap and one hour massage for two for about $78 US. The only negative is that we did not particularly care for the food at breakfast, which was included. It was a very good spread, and everything looked good, but what we had really wasn't all that tasty - although we ate it. You would probably be better off eating the Thai breakfast than the Western breakfast, and in fact, that was our experience throughout Phuket - the Thai food was great, the Western food, not so much. Anyway, we would go back to Club Andaman in a nanosecond!

location, but very noisy at night

from beachboy8
I and my wife stayed in the suites for 5 days. Room is a bit old but clean and tidy, breakfast is ok. Swimming pools are great. This was the first time we stayed in this resort, we were very happy until at night. The music is too noisy and it is coming from their open restaurant. It Start around 9:00 pm until 1:00 am. It is too noisy that we couldn't sleep. Even though you are watching tv and you can still hear the noise, bom bom bom.... We complained to the hotel and they only replied was to relay our complain to the restaurant. There was no improvement for the rest of the days. Only the pool view and sea view rooms will hear the noise. I think that this is the only problem we had in this resort. I won't stay there again unless they make improvement.

The Tailor is good value too

from localkiwi
This was our first trip to Phuket (July 2006) and we enjoyed a relaxing holiday in the sun. The Tailor in the main part of the Hotel made a dinner suit for our 16 year old son to wear to the school ball. We were so impressed with the quality that my husband and I both ended up getting suits made and my husband got 10 shirts as well. All up this cost around 26000 bhat or approximately NZ $1100. The service provided by John the Tailor and his staff was excellent and all done in about 3 days. As for the Hotel, we preferred to stay in the Bure's. The only downside to holidaying in Thailand (in general) is that you can never access an iron and ironing board and seem to have to pay someone to do it for you. Club Andaman is in an excellent location. Handy enough to be an easy walk to the main street but set back from the noise and hub-bub as the shops are open very late at night.

great place to stay

from guildfordians
After 13 years we finally went back to phuket after going to bali year after year. we did not know what to expect especially after the tsunami. Well there is no trace of the tsunami. Phuket is clean and you can walk on the footpaths with out fear of falling down a sewer hole...
Club Andaman beach hotel was a first stay for us and we are so glad of our choice. Airport arrival was smooth and swift (not like bali where you are getting ripped off left right and centre by someone trying to make a quick buck) that doesnt happen at phuket airport...
arrival at andaman was quick and we were in our rooms swiftly.
We stayed in the andaman cottages, we had three rooms.
Kids loved the hotel and soon were able to walk around the hotel with ease. Brekkie was great and the restaurants had fantastic food.
another great spot was the late night bar with the band playing, a great welcome from shopping to sit down, have a drink and listen to some great music...the band were very friendly people too.
The pool staff were great especially to the kids, always trying to get them involved in a activity and remembering their names.
club andaman is close to money changer, coffee world (who make real coffee) tailors, restaurants, great bar and across the road from the beach. Its also close enough to walk to the markets and nightlife but not close enough to be annoying.
perfect location. pools are kept clean. rooms are kept clean. bathrooms are kept clean...
we will return next year...
We took 4 adults and 3 children (2 were grandparents) and all enjoyed...

Great price for a great resort :)

from AustralianAbroad
We staying at the Club Andaman in October which was supposed to be rainy season and we only received a little rain in 2 out of the 5 days we were there which was great.

The resort is great for a 4 star resort. Although it seems to be ageing in parts, it is kept clean and tasteful. The service is excellent and they are wonderful with the kids. I went with another family and my 3 year old daughter and 5 month old son and they had such a good time. The staff remember your name from check in and are very accomodating.

The facilities for the children are great. I was surprised to see a review stating that they were disappointed there wasn't a seperate pool for the kids. They do have a little kiddie pool just off the main pools which is something you don't always find in resorts. It is definately a family resort and maybe not quite the quiet, romantic resort one might hopefor, but if you are after great service and a location across the road from the beach with a great atmosphere then this is definately the resort to go to.

We will definately visit again.

Amazing holiday loved every minute!

Just got back from a fabulous 10 night stay at Club Andaman. In short we loved the hotel and loved Phuket. The room was spacious and the bathroom was nice - as stated in a previous review - it is odd that they have a window between the room and the bathroom with blinds on the outside so the person in the bathroom cant close them if need be - this wasn’t a problem for us but if you are not intimate with the person that you are sharing with it may be awkward.

The service in the hotel was great, on one occasion they forgot to leave a bath towel in the room so we phoned housekeeping and practically before we had replaced the receiver there was a knock at the door and warm towels were delivered.

The hotel has 2 pools which were not crowded; we usually had a secluded half to ourselves. I was disappointed though that they don’t have a separate pool for children because on a couple of occasions there were kids splashing about noisily in both pools - I wrote that in the comments sheet that they give out.

The Breakfast is nice catering for all tastes, with nice gentle live Thai music in the background. The waiters are friendly and considerate, remembering our quirks throughout our stay.

The 'poshest' massage place in the hotel is Anda spa which we practically lived in. It is more expensive than the other massage places in Patong but in our opinion was well worth it for the ambience and quality of the huts that they have. The girls who work are very sweet and funny. I had 2 body wraps, a body mask and we had a floral hot tub together which was lovely. The massage parlours outside the hotel and the other ones in the hotel are worth visiting too. They were all good and reasonably priced but Anda spa was our luxury for the trip.

Patong beach in september was lovely, not too busy. We made friends with the guys who work on the beach. There was a guy who sells drinks and has a few loungers on the beach that we went to everyday - he was just opposite the hotel. We went there most days and bought coconuts from him. The guys who run the water sports were also very friendly, my partner did parasailing a couple of times. They also have jet skis and a banana boat.

There are shops and eateries all along patong beach. Not to mention tailor after tailor. We got evening dresses and suits tailored for a very reasonable price. We were disappointed by the first tailor, so shopped around more the second time and came across Henrys which is a large shop on the main road. The quality of the suit was superb, I highly recommend this tailor.

The tours that the hotel recommends are great and the girl who sits on the tour desk is very sweet and efficient. We did the snorkelling full day tour to Phi Phi island, Maya bay and Koh Island. It was a fantastic day on a speedboat with a great crew. The scenery was amazing and the day well organised so that everyone was kept entertained, even my partner who can’t swim. At Koh Island you can walk to the shallow corals so she ducked under water with my mask and saw the fish. We were very excited.

The safari half day was fabulous. In 4 hours we did elephant trekking, sea canoeing, watched a monkey show and an elephant show where we were massaged by a 9 year old elephant (we loved that!), we were educated about their methods of rice farming and rubber tapping and found the whole experience incredible.

We went to Phuket Fantasea which is a show in the evening. I will not write too much about it because when we went we didn’t know what to expect but were blown away by the quality of the show! Well worth seeing!!!!!!!!!

Simon Cabaret is recommended by the guide books that we had and we were glad that we saw it. Worth seeing if you have time - there are great sets and classic songs, western and Thai and great costumes. It was very funny.

We flew with Thai Airways international and were very impressed by the amount of leg room that we had. It was a very comfortable flight. Check in was quick and efficient at all 3 airports and we were lucky enough to be one of the first people to see the new airport in Bangkok 'Suvarnabhumi', Which is great. There are loads of shops and massage parlours at the airport and looks like there will be lots of restaurants as well but most of them hadn’t opened when we were there (only 12 hours after the airport had opened).

Going back for seconds....

My husband and i had a 14 day stay at club anderman sept 2005, we were so impressed as soon as we returned to australia, we invited to take my parents back this year. The staff, services and food were beautiful and we look forward to our return to share this experience with my parents. 4 weeks to go and we will be lazing next to that amazing pool.

Second time around

from Gloryfan
My partner and I made our second visit to Club Andaman in July and we were not disappointed. Once again the staff were lovely, always friendly and happy. It was nice that some rememberred us from last year.

The grounds were immaculate and the recreational facilities were very enjoyable. Once again we had a balcony room, this time on the 6th floor. We had a terrific view over the hotel gardens towards the sea. It is worth the extra few dollars to have the balcony.

We again took advantage of the on-site tailor shop and can recommend them for anybody requiring suits ,shirts, blouses etc. if you are after an inexpensive and good quality massage then go see the ladies at the massage hut near the pool.

Club Andaman is ideally located. A comfortable stroll from the action at Bangla Rd, close to the beach and has 24 hour convenience stores, banks, restaurants etc nearby.

Top Local Tips for Phuket

Tip for Banglay Road Be very careful walking around the bars etc in Banglay road, streets can be very uneven and very easy to fall over

Health options Try teeth whiting or getting prescription glasses made great value

Bargain with them Many items in shops are overpriced. Do not hesitate to take a calculator with you bargain them down half or a third of the price. Just calculate how much you think the item is worth and stick to it. (Not a ridiculous amount, be reasonable) If they dont agree just walk off slowly telling them "sorry too much". 8 times out of 10 they will call you back and agree to your price.
