Historical Traveller Reviews of Ramada Resort Khao Lak Hotel
Sheer tranquility
from SuzyQScotlandUkReviewer: Suzanne Scotland UK
We have just returned from a three night break at the Ramada. The hotel is magnificent and the service was fab. As explained in previous reviews the hotel isn't fully operational. We contacted the hotel in advance to get an update and it was a bit dissapointing that they didnt provide us with the full facts. Regardless of this we would still have gone and were glad we didnt miss this place off the map. The hotel has a beach front location the beach wasnt the best as the sea was really choppy (well we were out of season so what did we expect) The room was huge, really modern and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was built for self indulgance and had a fantastic bath tub. I would definatelly recommend the ground floor the balcony was a bit larger and had sun loungers which faced the sea. The pool was good with plenty of room for everyone. Initially breakfasts didn't look up to much but the selection changed daily and all choices were cooked fresh you could also order something special if you liked. The buffet evening meal was well priced in comparison to other hotels in Thailand and again all the food was cooked fresh. The bar was fantatstic for watching the sun go down really romantic and again well priced. There are a number of hotels within walking distance but the ambience and price didn't even compare to the Ramada but nice for a change if required. I would definatelly recommend this hotel and intend visiting again before this special place becomes common knowledge
Affordable Luxury
from kiwitraveller49The hotel was fabulous, our trip in Thailand was for three months, and this was by far the best place we stayed at. We were upgraded to a seaview room on the top floor, so had great views over the pool to the sea.
The room was large, as was the bathroom, and very luxurious, the bed linen and towels were of very good quality.
Breakfast was very nice, with lots of choice.
Our only complaint would have been the distance from the main town and the difficulty getting there. It would be good if the hotel would provide a free shuttle, a couple of times a day. There wasnt a lot of choice of local restaurants close to the hotel, though in the high season there may be more.
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to our most fussy friends.
Great for work and play
from guyBangkokThe hotel itself is beautiful, tranquil. Fantastic, chic rooms, big funky bathrooms...nice gym too.
But best of all: the hotel staff. It is really them that make you want to come back time and again. Incredible hospitality and warmth, a very personal feel.
Just hope to be able to have a real holiday at the Ramada soon...and really enjoy the excellent mojitos.
REALLY nice...
from Anita40We got a beachfront villa for the equivalent of $120 US that included breakfast. The room was beautiful, very modern and ON the sand. Huge bathroom with a giant jacuzzi tub for two, big bed with a view out the huge doors to the ocean.
Had a 90 minute full body massage for $35 US and it was wonderful.
Great pool and fantastic dinner buffet.
Will stay here again!
Nice property, modern room furnishings
from kfergusBiggest complaint would be that the hotel bar closed early, the front desk said @ 5:30, however there were several employees hanging out in there at 10:30P.
Also, the electricity went off each of our 3 nights for a few minutes at ~1AM. Have no idea why!
Room furnishings are up-to-date since refurbishing after the tsunami., including flat screen LCD TV.
Best thing about this place is that this Ramada offers rooms with either 2 queen size beds in a room and allows 4 people in it, or King sized beds. (Many places have 1 or 2 double beds.) They will even put a roll away in either room to accommodate another person, which we needed for our group.
If you book here, I recommend the ground floor room. That way you can walk straight out across the lawn to the pool, restaurants, or beach without having to make your way along the balcony walkways. Drawback, you can't see the ocean from the deck,. but you can hear it and walk to it within seconds.
The beach front villas offer no privacy. Glass fronted, right on the beach, though they have drapery. However they looked like each may have a private roof top, though I couldn't be sure.
Location was good with several other restaurants next door or within a short walk. The evening market is held on the main road at the turn to the hotel. Large beach.
Recommended.
Just lovely...
from ResortstyleThe food and drink were very reasonably priced and the buffet breakfast offered was great. It would have been nice to have another restaurant in the resort to dine at but apparently that's coming.
The location is great- away from it all which is exactly what we wanted. But you could easily walk up the street to find a couple of little shops. We hired a scooter for the day (under $10AUD) and checked out the neighbouring areas and everyone was just as friendly and the language barrier was never an issue.
Great resort, with extremely friendly staff, which made for a brilliant beach escape!
Fantastic stay
from 987_31Food at the hotel is reasonably priced and it is not bad! Breakfast is good. Each night, the hotel has an international buffet at less than 10 euros, good selection but I would have preferred locals dishes only. Cocktails are excellent for the price paid. The pool is not very big but still you can swim fairly. The only issue was the beach, we could not take a dip into the sea as it was very wild, but I guess this is not the perfect season for sea swimming.
All in all, I highly recommend the Ramada Resort Khao Lak if you would like to relax and relax... otherwise for night life, Patong is preferrable. However for day trip, you can always catch a tour desk and plan excursions to J. Bond islands, Phi phi, etc... from Khao Lak. Plus there is small waterfall from the hotel (1hour by bicycle).
A Minimum 5 full days would be perfect.
We loved it

Ramada resort in Khao Lak If you plan to go to Khao Lak choose Ramada Resort for you stay. There's not much to do or shop in Khao Lak but the beaches are beautiful.
Take a speedboat for diving Scuba diving in Khao Lak is special. If you take a speedboad, you can go to Richeliew Rock(the best point in this area) in less than two hours. However, a big boat would take around three hours to get to nearer Similan islands.
Transportation tip You can rent bikes at the hotel's spa (75 bath per hour) or you can just go to a shop near ramada (1min walk) outside the lobby, they rent bikes at 100 bath for the whole day and motobike for 200 bath per day(gas in your charge of course).Hotel transfer from airport to Ramada is one hour at 1500 bath (for 3 pax), 2500 bath for a whole van. Otherwise you can book an entire van for a whole day at 3200 bath.
