Historical Traveller Reviews of Amari Orchid Resort Pattaya Hotel

Nice Hotel for Pattaya

from Micheman
This hotel was renewed end of 2007. Everything was new during our stay. We booked a room in the Gardenwing (wich is the old wing), Ocean tower is new wing. Our wing was great. Rooms are nice and clean. Comfort as a 5* hotel. The Ocean tower is even more luxuous. The hotel has 2 swimming pools, 1 is an infinity pool with jacuzzi. Enough sunbeds around the pool, towels available at pool. Great service around the pool. Refreshing towels are distributed every day (free) and sometimes fruitsnacks are distributed aswell.
The only BAD thing about the hotel is that there is no private beach, but you know that if you come to Pattaya. The beach in front of the hotel is very crowded and not that nice (pattaya beach).
Taxi to center is about 3 minutes and costs like 20 Bath/person.

Not good impression this time

from araiwa
We are regular guests at amari orchid. This time we decided to stay at the new Ocean wing which we looked forward to it.

Before we checked in one hour, i had called the hotel before to check whether the room was ready. They said yes. Once we arrived they couldn't find the room after half an hour, the room they gave us was wrong type. it seemed that they couldn't operate well as they had a big group when we arrived there. so wehave to faced this problem

After i insisted on to accept the room, they reconcile by give us upgrade to junior suite which is very nice..

To conclude this their property is very modern but staff just didn't live up our expectation very slow in everything.. we use pressing service came out very slow too..

breakfast not good too.. but the pool area staff are very good.. with service mind..

We will have a second thought for next visit.

An unlucky draw - or just bad luck

from esben
Well, Amari didn't really succeed in making our stay worth the money. To start with the good thing: Upon check out, a hotel manager asked to meet with us in the reception area, and he offered us a one night's stay free of charge. Which is good, of course. Here's the reason for this offer:

We are a family of four, currently based in Bangkok, and we wanted to check out Pattaya - despite the somewhat filthy reputation of the place. To put it short:

- We agreed with the Amari that we would get an early check in (our son tends to get a bit grumpy if he doesn't get his favourite nap at noon:-))
- We agreed to have a baby cot installed in our room upon check in
- We specifically asked for a room with a nice view, since my wife and I planned to spend the entire evening on the balcony while our kids were sleeping inside the room. Amari recommended the Family Room category, as they were quite large and all of them had a balcony with a view.
- As the early check in and the baby cot was not mentioned in the written confirmation, I specifically reminded them about this in a separate e-mail

Then:
- The room was not ready when we arrived
- There was no baby cot when we entered the room
- We had to ask for the baby cot five times and wait in the room for almost one hour before they managed to solve this "problem"

So far, so bad. But the worst is still to come:
Our balcony was so small, it actually only had one chair. Besides, it was not facing the ocean, but the neighbouring building - which still was under construction! Our view was a construction site (and believe me, this was a tall building, too), with all kind of noises that made it hard to talk on the balcony.

At last:
I was of course in touch with the receptionists, explaining that despite that we were sorry about all the incidents, we would not let this affect our stay more negatively than necessary. I expressed that I anticipated some kind of compensation when we checked out the day after.

Upon check out, I was lucky enough to meet with the same receptionist as the day before. Lucky, because I then didn't have to explain the whole story again. As the bill was printed, I realised that they didn't give a single Baht discount. And they even tried to fool me, saying that it now was too late, because the amount was charged my credit card.

This is where Amari made their biggest mistake. And this is where they proved it is not a solid five star hotel. I hope I never will experience being cheated by a presumably decent hotel again.

It all ended up with a discount of 15%. 1.200 Baht (USD 40) is borderline to being insulting, but it is not about the money. We were paying about USD 280 to stay there one night, and all I wanted was to be treated seriously. They failed, but it helped to get the free night offer in the end.

About the property:
The tower building is new and nice. The garden wing looks a bit worn out, but I only saw this from the outside. Make sure you get a pool side room(!). The pool is nice, but the children's pool was in a shadow area, and our daughter left the pool after a short while because of the low temperature...

The one restaurant we went to provided some excellent indian food, and I would say that the staff in general were nice, typical Thai people = friendly and polite.

To conclude:
The property is nice, but they need to improve some routines to handle customer feedback. I hope we were just very unlucky, and it will be interesting to see how our second stay turns out - if we decide to go again...:-)

Great Executive Ocean Tower Room

from Hideo
From January 21 - 27, I stayed in an Executive Ocean Deluxe Room on the 19th floor.

Upon arrival at the ultra-modern Ocean Tower Lobby (Beach Road), a guest relations officer escorted me to the 19th floor for the private express check-in at the Horizon Club . The Horizon Club offers many amenities like complimentary daily buffet breakfast, beverages and drinks available throughout the day, free internet, and geniunely personalized attention from the Executive Floor Staff and Manager.

I liked the modern look of the room. My room had a good-sized separate shower and in -room large tub, large comfortable bed, nice working desk, large flat panel tv, small balcony, and nice view of the ocean and north city view. I always liked the location of the Amari Orchid Resort because it is in a quieter area of North Pattaya and easy access to Beach Road and Second Road. With the addition of the new Ocean Tower, Horizon Club on the 19th Floor, Silvara Spa and Fitness Center on the 4th floor. The fitness center is adequate and self-serve with a multi-station gym, dumbbells, a few treadmills, cross-trainers, and exercise bikes. I have tried the Mantra Restaurant at the Amari a few times with my Thai work colleagues and they really enjoy it due to extensive menu (Seafood, Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Mediterranean,....) , wine list and atmosphere. To me, the food is ok but a little pricey.

Be aware that the Superior and Deluxe Rooms are part of the original Amari Orchid Resort, while the Ocean Deluxe Rooms are the located in the New Tower (Beach Road Entrance).

Service was great... but

from RelivAmbassador
I stayed at the Amari the week of December 9th, 2007 on business. The service is very, very good and I suspect that the rooms in the new tower are excellent. However, I had a garden view room.

It was a bit worn and very musty. As a matter of fact, that part of the hotel was so musty they had little crock pots full of scented oil in the halls to help mask the smell. Still, once I was in my room for a while, I got used to it and didn't notice it. But, each time I left and came back, I smelled it all over again. Be aware of this if you have asthma because it's strong enough to get you in trouble breathing-wise.

The garden view rooms are also in a section of the hotel that doesn't have an elevator, and I was on the third floor. The little bellman tried to take my suitcases for me, but I hadn't exchanged money and didn't have a tip for him. I tried to carry all my suitcases up to my room myself, and that was a mistake.

The restaurants were good. I suggest the grilled tiger prawns in the restaurant off of the lobby by the garden - EXCELLENT. Be careful of the Mantra Restaurant though. While prices are OK in the hotel itself, the Sunday brunch at the Mantra (hotel owned) Restaurant ended up being $45 per person. Our fault for not asking first.

All-in-all it was a good stay because of the service and the beauty of the place, but I think that next time I'll either stay in the new tower rooms or at the Dusit across the street. A fellow employee told me that it isn't musty.

Nice Design But No Shade

from Simon1944
The design of this hotel's public areas is outstanding but the redesign of the garden area offers no shade at all. Perhaps it will be better when the new palm trees develop. I am fair and need the shade so I will not be staying here again. If shade is not an issue for you, this is a fine hotel and good value.

Pornpetch S.

I am Bangkokian and always spend my weekend at Pattaya because it's few hour drive from BKK to Pattaya.
I stay at many hotels in Pattaya. To say , almost all because I hate to stay in the same hotel besides it's real good.
For Amari, I stay there for this time as second time. At first, I am very impressed with everything of Amari.
However, for Amari Pattaya this time. Thing changes.
First, I hav to wait for check in almost an hour. I book two rooms. One for my parents, which I clarify that I need terrace and another is superior room.
I reach the hotel around almost 2 PM, contacting front desk and get the response that we, which means me, my 2 year old kid, and 3 year old kid and my parents hav to wait for another 30 mins. They told me that there's one room with terrace that I book which can be in. For the other, hav to wait. wait.
They also told me that for room with terrace.. we cannot use terrace because the outside ( terrace area is very dirty... they are underconstruction !!!!!!! ) I ask her again WHAT??? No room with clean terrace at all?? They said everyroom with terrace are underconstruction ( just only outside building ).....I am about to complain...they told me that.... they would discount the room to be as delux price... but it's not worth.
We walk in the room to rest... and STUNNING!!! I found that behind the curtain is the terrace, which u must be scared of... so many dust... stone... and some old baskets... containing with cement!!! scattering all over the terrace floor.. I suddenly closed the curtain....my parents seem very tired... but hav to stay in the same room of my kids....to wait for another room to be ready...We found the fruit basket (welcome fruit) in room... and so, i give one apple and orange to my kid.
About an hour after that, the bellboy come to the door and told me that the room is ready. So.. my parents decide to get into the new superior room... leaving me... surprising for what I just hav seen.
Not yet.... About 20 mins from that while I am unpacking my belongings...Someone ring on the doorbell.... I open the door and found one roomservice... come with fruit basket... I told her that I hav one already in room.. and u know what she said??? She said that that fruit basket is belong to yesterday..... and then she came into the room.. take the old one back... and said nothing after that. My kid ate it already.
There is the construction of the high rise nearby.. Amari as well. Noisy!! I can tell that this place USED TO BE VERY NICE PLACE TO STAY. But this time... I definitely CHANGE MY MIND.
The room of my parents are damn old... the rate is around 3800 bht. For my room , the rate I paid for delux is 6800 bht. I think it's such a waste of money to pay in such rate and get the room so damn untidy... messy...
The food is banal... nothing delish in my point of view.. but what I love just only one thing of this hotel is the atmosphere of breakfast meal...
Frankly speaking... U can pay for that price for other hotels which is more impressing. for intance, Sea Sand Sun resort and spa ( closed to the beautiful beach ), JW Marriott, Hilton, Dusit
Ohhh one thing i forgot to mention.
The staff of Tour desk... I ask her about direction coz I hav to drive to that place ; but not sure about where to start... she's on the phone, which i think it's not so important... coz i wait her on phone for a long time.... seem like she talks with friend....she has not hang up the phone... ; but she turn to me...and she answer me the question... with the face that unbelievable that the hotel hire someone like this to do her duty on this kind of service.
I am THAI..... Maybe this is the reason.

Never again for Amari Orchid Pattaya.
Believe me.. there are a lot more in pattaya for u to pick up. See [--]... and don't believe much in the picture they posted...

Nice Hotel

from JaffaUK
Booked one night stayed three. Lovely hotel, great welcome, nice staff all around, great room, great pool. Work was going on the new main building and around but was unobtrusive. Food was great. The only downside was that it was in Pattaya why would anyone choose to stay in Pattaya?

Great place

from kinind
Likes are many - spacious rooms and bathrooms, good air-conditioning, good breakfast, clean atmosphere, large pool, quiet, good location, friendly staff. Dislikes - lobby and corridors are not air-conditioned, and so are hot and muggy. Definitely good value for money.

Great Breakfast

from rmeeuwsen
I stayed there for 2 nights in April 2003 and had no problems. The morning buffet breakfast was diverse and good. The egg station for omelets was fast and responsive to your requests.

For the main hotel, if you do not like stairs, take a lower floor because there is no elevator. They were building a tower section which will have an elevator.

A detached restaurant nearer the water also had good food, excellent service and live entertainment.

Top Local Tips for Pattaya

Avoid Being Robbed In The Bars 1. Do not go into a bar where they can shut the door 2. Ask the price of a drink before you order 3. Pay for your drink when you receive it. This sage advice came from a local tour guide.

Why Why would you go to Pattaya unless you had to when there are so many more beautiful places in Thailand

Reccommend hotels in Pattaya Hip hotel at Pattaya - Eravana , hotel which allows pet - Sunset village (closed to beach) and Rabbit Resort Pattaya (charge 500 bht per one dog ), Sea sand Sun resort and spa - nice beach, nice room, nice spa quiet place for getaway in the price that can afford!! (but the service will b a bit slow), Sundalay(Jomtien) small room but closed to beach where u can walk a long.
