Enjoyed the Patong Merlin, great atmosphere, friendly staff a great Oasis from the Hustle & Bustle of Patong, security patrolled at night so its very safe, went in 2007 & am going back in July 2008, highly recommended.

All I can say I what a fabulos hotel, it was truly amazing, it is not just the fancy looks or the three hug pools that make the place feel like home. It's the kind and friendly staff that treat you like family and they treat your kids like their very own. I have many fond memories of the Merlin and I know for a fact that when I go back to Thailand I don't want to stay any where else.

I have travelled to a few asian places, however this hotel will be one of the best there is in Thailand, actually no1 rating for famity and small travellers, i can asure you this hotel with its current systems works well to all travellers, i have stayed at this hotel for 2.5 weeks, and all the staff were great , all dinners, breakfasts you will not believe, and at a very good price, we travelled with a family of six with all children as well, excellent will always stay at the merlin hotel

The resort has 3 excellent pools and plenty of sun lounges. Preferred to swim here than the crowded Patong beach.
The airconditioned rooms were good with private balcony.
Staff were friendly and helpful which makes this hotel worth the stay.

Believe me it is the best hotel you could stay at. It may not be the most luxury hotel ever, but how often do you stay in your room when your in Thailand, your either at the beach in the pool, shoppin or doing tours. The patong merlin is in the centre of everything. The ebach shops everything within walking distance. No need for a tuk tuk. The staff are friendly kind an helpful, be sure to play ping pong with them during the day about 12:30 to 3:30 usually in the arvo. I am going back every year. The facilities the 3 pools palms everywhere the layout is amazing and the buffet breakfast you will never want to leave that it is briliant anything you could think of. Trust me stay at the PATONG MERLIN the best hotel ever i recommend it

We stayed here from the 17th to the 25th Jan 2007 Great hotel very clean great service excellent staff. Breakfast is fantastic did not eat lunch or dinner at hotel a very pricey better places to eat around the streets. Would stay here again.

Patong Merlin Resort

Just returned from a two week holiday (20th Nov-5th Dec) staying at the 'Patong Merlin' in Phuket. I can highly recomend this hotel as a place to stay, if you are after a five star luxury hotel then this is not for you it is however a very good, clean and friendly hotel which is well run. The hotel is large and spacious with three pools including lunch time snacks and drinks bars set in lush tropical gardens, the main entrance is on Rat-U-Thit Songroi Pi Road while the rear entrance is on Thawiwong road which you cross to the beach.
I would recomend that you request a room with a pool view in block 5 or block 6 on the second, third or forth floor for three reasons
1. Both blocks have sun all day on their balconies.
2. Both are right next door to reception and the breakfast restuarant.
3. Second, third or forth floors offers more privacy as you can't see into them when you walk past and of course if there was another big wave you would have a better chance !
The rooms themselves assuming they are the same as ours (we were staying in block 5) have safety deposit boxes shower and bath tea/coffee making facilities, mini-bar (payable..)hairdryer, t.v. and air conditioning (which you will be gratefull for!!) they are cleaned everyday and the bed sheets and room towels are also replaced everyday.
The breakfast would statisfy all but the very fussy eaters as it includes tea, coffee, friut juices, cereal, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurts, fried food eggs bacon etc.., and pasteries.
The hotel also provides you with a pool towel collected from the pool hut which opens from 7-7 if you want a good lounger around the pool in the sun you will have to get up early !! after about 8am the prime loungers will have been spoken for.....
Personally apart from the breakfast (included with our accommodation) and the odd lunch time snack we never ate or drank in the hotel as prices are cheaper outside.
There are two supermarkets next to both hotel entrances the larger one at the rear beach side entrance so they are ideal to buy water and snacks for your room.....
Now a quick review on Patong itself.....the beach is very large and commercial you will pay about 200 baht (£3) for two beach loungers and umbrella alternative try 'Lamsign' beach about 20 mins ride buy tuk tuk (5-600 baht return £7.50-£9) still comercial but smaller and has very good snorkelling on the left side of the cove and fresh running water to wash salty sea water off....
Don't get ripped off by your tour rep for excursions go outside the hotel and all around you will find small tour booths which offer same and more excursions for a third of the price !!!! (and you can also haggle and play one booth against another til you get the price you want..)
Don't waste money on the 'Fantasea' show costs about £30 pounds very poor looking school production badly put together and cruel to animals!!
Do book the 'James bond safari full day 4 in 1' tour available from tour booths costs about 1300 bahts (£20 per person) full day riding elephants,seeing monkey temple with monkeys running free which you can feed, longboats to sea gypsy island where you have lunch (included in price) then canoeing through caves at Phang Nga Bay (breath-taking !!) then onto James bond island then home....
Drinking and eating can be expensive in Patong if you stick to the beach road (Thawiwong Road) cheaper one street back (hotels main entrance) Rat-U-thit Songroi Pi Road couple of suggestions...Turn left from the hotels main entrance three minute walk 'Orchid Garden' or ten minute walk just past 'Bangla Road' again on your left hand side the 'K Hotel' set back from road you will see huge fish tank , German run and very good food !!
Massages- don't bother with hotels as very expensive 1700 baht instead from hotels main entrance turn left walk past holiday inn orchid garden resturant (5mins max) go to 5 star massages set slightly back from road girls wear orange trousers (very clean, inviting and well run)!! 1 hour Thai Oil massage 350 baht (£5.20) Bliss !!! You can be massaged along side your partner but single blokes will be offered extras!!! All massage parlours do.....
Finally Bangla Road the main night spot with bars and shows only go down here if you are sexually liberated as you will see sights that raise a few eyebrows :) Young girls very skimply dressed dancing on bars and lady boys who can be very convincing !!

Have been to Thailand for the past 5 years and the first 4 we stayed at Patong Merlin. This year we couldnt get in as it was booked out!! We were devastated! We have found the staff here are so friendly and really try to learn from you. We have made some great friends with the staff and after the first year they recognised us instantly. I actually thought that when we first stayed here it was a four star rating... but its 3! It should be higher. Honestly can say that we missed staying here this year, but we went to visit everyone anyway, and they were great. We have recommended this hotel to all that we know are visiting Phuket, and they now love it there also. Truly a wonderful resort. Also a great position in Phuket. Right across the road from the beach, and a short walk on the beach road to the main street. But lots of shops to look at on the way. Highly recommended, and I will certainly be booking alot earlier next year so I am sure to get in. Hope you enjoy it!! P.S Its a great hotel for all ages, and very family friendly also.

My family stayed at the Patong Merlin Hotel in Phuket for 10 nights in September.

The hotel was lovely and serene the pools are just beautiful.

The food that was available from the hotel was always fresh and yummy.

The B'fast buffet was so much and everything in the buffet was always fresh - my favourite was pancakes and omelettes and the way that they cooked the omelettes was incredible - my son wants me to cook him omelettes that way but it will never happen.

The staff from the girls cleaning rooms to the girls on B'fast were beautiful and helpful and very nice. The rest of the staff were very honest - I accidentally left my camera behind on one of the tables and one of the members of the staff handed it into reception - thank god.

The rooms were always cleaned and very comfortable.

I would definitley go back and stay at this hotel again.

Our family and another family have just returned from the Patong Merlin. We found the location of the hotel excellent, close to restaurants, beaches, markets and transport. The pool areas are beautiful, the pools are cleaned daily and there are plenty of sunbeds around. The rooms are clean & have everything you need, cooling, shower, tv, kettle fridge etc, but if you are expecting full on luxury look somewhere else. The rooms are serviced daily by the ever so friendly housekeeping ladies. We made a couple of requests to them and nothing was too much trouble. We all enjoyed the breakfasts, which was buffet style and very nice. The kids enjoyed the gym area, playing table tennis & using the equipment. We made use of the kids club on a couple of occasions. The staff were lovely, the kids were able to play playstation, take their own dvds or just play around with the staff.
There is a small playground for under 5's. All up we had a great stay at the Patong Merlin and would certainly stay there again..

Once Again - A great Hotel!

This is the second time we have stayed at the Patong Merlin Hotel in 12 months. This is a great hotel in a great location and you will not be dissapointed! It is located at the end of the main beach road in Patong (Thaweewong Rd) and is so large that it runs accross the whole block. The front entrance is on Song Roy Pee Rd and you can walk through the resort to the back and onto main Beach Road.

ROOMS: We stayed in a Pool View room in Building A (the administration building). These rooms have all been renovated and are new. Beautiful bathrooms, safes and great views of the pools from the balconies.

BREAKFAST: Breakfast at this hotel is fantastic. A huge smorgasboard including breads, bacon and eggs, omelettes, french toast, fruit, yoghurt, asian food, cereal, pancakes ...... you name it - they have it. You can sit on the verandah outside of the restaurant inside.

POOLS: There are 3 large pools and they are immaculately clean. They are cleaned every morning by staff and the concrete is even pressure hosed. You can sign out pool towels at the shack at the middle pool.

There is a 7/11 accross the road from the front enterance for all your supplies. The food in the hotel is a little pricey as expected but overall this is a great hotel. You will not be dissapointed!

Loved the Patong Merlin - Great People

For what you pay the Patong was excellent. we paid bugger all in flights and accomodation and truthfully I expected a swag on the ground.

We arranged our holiday/ hotel booking through Creative Holidays and they exceeded our expectations by a long shot.

When we arrived all our transfers were arranged and everything done for us including given a personal host who we were to meet in the lobby of the hotel the very next day to book tours etc etc (this we did not expect at all but was a great help instead of chasing up tours on our own) Even at one stage my partner was very sick and we asked to change the tour to another day and they had no problem doing that.

The hotel is right on the beach even though you can not see the beach from your rooms but you do get a very nice view in the pool side rooms.

We originally were given a room with Two single beds but they quickly changed us rooms.

The staff were very nice... The pools were great and the breakfast was nice too.

The Patong Merlin would suit a group of friends out to have a good time and run a muck in patong. The only thing I could not handle was the humidity and sometimes the stench that come from the drains but this is minimal.

GO TO THE PATONG MERLIN FOR YOUR FIRST STAY.

DONT GO IF YOU WANT PURE LUXURY.

The Patong Merlin was perfect! the loaction was great, at one end you had the street access to markets/shops and at the other end you simply cross the road to get to patong beach.
The pools are massive and set in beautiful gardens. There are heaps of pool chairs available (as long as you dont get too many people reserving them while they're out shopping), food & drink service around the pool was great, towels available. The service in this hotel is great. When we arrived our bed, the sink & bath was decorated with flowers & they had left us a cake & fruit as it was our honeymoon. The breakfast was beautiful and had lots of variety. Rooms were clean and all facilities were in great condition. I would definately reccomend this hotel to anyone, families, couples, singles. Can't give enough praise!

Just got back yesterday from this lovely hotel. Didn't like our first rooms as next door hotel were renovating, but was quickly sent to another interconnecting room on 3rd Floor at front of hotel. The hotel stafff in the bar and restaurants are beautiful. My hubby did the Thai Cooking class and even though he was the only participant they made his day. The gym and table tennis room is really airconditioned well, making it pleasant whilst working out. The three lovely pools were well maintained and are set in green lush gardens. The complimentary breakfast was very tasty and plentiful with staff always bustling around to make sure your tea is full. If you want a nice meal in close proximity the Restaurant at the front end of hotel called Shakers is very nice...especially the Thai food and Chicken Corden Bleu... We went there four times. We will go again to this hotel, we stayed at the Merlin Beach (sister hotel) last time, but found this one more family friendly and we are seasoned travellers. Happy Holiday..

Great Place, Great People

This was our third time in Thailand....we love the place and the Thai people. We enjoyed our stay at the Merlin, however found that the Reception staff were not very helpful and we had to wait an hour until the room was ready (not what you want aftre a long plane trip). Despite asking for a non-smoking room, we were given a smoking room and we also paid for a pool view room and got to see some nice palm trees?....Getting over those things, we had a fantastic time and found that the Food & Beverage staff in all areas of the Hotel were wonderfully and extremely helpful in comparison to the Reception. Bangla Road still has some good shops & restaurants, it was very sad to see that the push for live s-- shows has increased and has the potential to gain a reputation like the s-- districts of Bangkok......lets just say the Federal Police would have a field day cleaning up the Road!

Top Local Tips for Patong Beach

Shopping Tip make sure you do your shopping in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Phukets prices are ALOT more then those two cities. for example, thai fishing pants were 99baht at MBK bangkok, phuket, they wanted anywhere between 200-400 baht. and thats just an example.

taxi from airport if you dont have a transfer included in your booking, you can get a shared taxi from airport to Patong for 150baht each, but it willl take close to 2 hours with waiting etc. A taxi is 450baht and will take 1 hour, so if there are 2 or 3 of you and you dont want to wait then take a taxi.
