A beautiful hotel!
from A TripAdvisor MemberEven though we don't have children, they seemed to be a favourite with the staff at the Amari, particularly with the young boys serving around the pool - on a number of occasions one particular lady was relieved of her small child while she enjoyed her lunch in peace! The staff in the Merrante restaurant were also very helpful - while I was sick for a few days, they served almost anything I requested for my tender stomach, regardless of whether it was on the menu or not!
The Discovery dive centre, on site at the Amari, was very professional. Although it wasn't the cheapest company to dive with in the area, you certainly got what you paid for - small groups, professional and friendly divemasters and a good onboard lunch!!
We were really undecided of where to stay before we got to Koh Samui, but having arrived we were certain that we'd made the right choice in staying at the Amari. We had considered staying at Poppies, but after going there for dinner one evening, we were glad we didn't. Although a very pretty resort, the pool is smaller than tiny and the food and service in the restaurant was a little overrated. The bungalows looked very charming, but I think I would have got fed up with people traipsing past my verandah every night on their way to the restaurant.
I would certainly recommend a stay at the Amari - the only downside is the shallow sea at the beach. A paddle out past the reef on a kayak, though, offers some good snorkelling and a nice swim, so it didn't prove too much of a problem.
A definite thumbs up for the Amari Palm Reef.
best location
from ceferWe stayed in the most basic rooms which are split by the road - i thought this would be a problem but it wasn't - rooms are very nice just a little dark. Would definately come back if just for the pad thai by the pool bar!
100% Go Here You will love it !
from SparkyD24The rooms are spotless well air conditioning(not noisy) ,black marble bathrooms with a shower that is powerfull and superbe , red oak flooring, mosie sprayed every evening by staff with orchid for lady for disturbing you..I have stayed in many places all over the U.S Carib. Europe but this place surpassed and exceeded all by a long distance. It is spotless , classy , luxury , friendly..all that you want from a resort you will find here. Its location is ideal as it is 5 minute walk (if even) from all your resturants shops bars etc but is still far enough away to think you are out of all busy area etc.The beach at Amari is shallow as it is in a man made inlet but ideal for kids , if you want a top class beach then again 5 minute walk on a beautiful beach and you have it. (dont want to ruin the surprise but be on the beach at Amari around 2.30 -3 pm everyday and bring a camera for a great little , well big, surprise that has a daily bath ???) Chaweng offers all , but what I loved was the beds at the beach bars for a chilled out drink after a top class meal at a restaurant that will set you back 25-30euros and thats having filet mignon x 2 starters x 2 2beers 2 water and thats expensive.I was probably like you are now doing some homework and investigation to see the best place to stay on Samui but I can safely say that from the time I landed in Bangkok & Samui , when I told thai people where i was staying they said it was one of if not the best place in Chaweng to stay.I walked all chaweng during the day & night and did not find a better hotel (1 or 2 came close but Amari has a little class more) GO HERE YOU WILL LOVE IT.
If you have any questions please dont hesitate and mail me ...I know what it can be like trying to choose , especially if its your Honeymoon.
I have other places in the World to see first but I can safely say I will be staying at the Amari Palm reef again.
family fun at the amari
from A TripAdvisor MemberUnpretentious Luxury
from antisunWe selected a Deluxe Room. This came with a TV, cable, mini-bar, balcony, and a black granite bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and wonderful shower! The Amari staff kept the room spotless.
The best things about the Amari are the service, location, unbeatable included breakfast (pretty much every breakfast food you could desire!), and the two large pools. The staff at the Amari is kind and very attentive. The pool attendants even played ball with some of the kids! Considering the easy 5 min. walk into town the Amari can't be beat. After 6 days of Chewang you will really appreciate the quiet of the Amari when you return from a day of shopping!
No place is without some negatives and at the Amari they are the reef off the beach, the slightly hard mattresses, and some construction by the pool across the street. The reef makes ocean swimming directly in front of the Amari tough. However, it's about a 10 minute walk to an area where swimming is possible. To my husband and I this was irrelevant as the pools were amazing! The mattresses could be a bit softer, but being Americans we may be used to a softer feel than others. Lastly, they appear to be finishing up some rooms near the second pool. I suspect these will be complete in another month or so. The noise wasn't enough to detract from beauty of the resort!
Overall the Amari is a friendly and luxurious resort. As my husband and I love to visit different places this is one of the few resorts we would visit again!
Superb Top Class Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberFantastic place!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe staff were extremely friendly and couldn't have done more to make us feel comfortable. Even when the maids came to spray the mosquito spray thay handed both me and my partner a flower each for the disturbance!
We decided to stay in the superior room and we were lucky enough to have a balcony over looking the main pool and the sea, so as you can image our view was lovely. The bathroom was spotless and the beds large and comfy.
Fortunately for myself my birthday fell on one of the days that we stayed so i was delighted when i retured from a day out to find that my partner had arranged for them to leave me a cake, a card, fresh fruit and a lovely bunch of flowers!
The resort bar is extremely funky down to the ash trays! We considered it our dream lounge setting! And the hotel restaurant 1 minute across the road (Prego) was one of the nicest meals we had whilst staying on the island, and it is even quite cheap considering the setting looks as though it would cost you a fortune!
We will definitely be going back there again as the hotel is right on the beach and is in a quiet area with a 10 minute walk along the beach to the louder bars. I am planning a holiday for my mum and her partner and we will be booking them in this hotel without a doubt!

from A TripAdvisor Memberreally lovely hotel
from jawdatethe hotel is located close to the centre without the noise.
perfect location.
highly recommended specially the bar with a king size bed that you can relax in and drink your cocktails in style.
Unexpected luxury
from JoysafinaNow a few negatives.... Unless you stay in a deluxe superior room, the rooms are more 3.5* quality. We stayed in a standard room and I was a tad dissappointed, but got over it quickly because the hotel's facilities were so lovely. The room just seemed not to match to the resort, but maybe they'll change that soon. The spa was okay. The atmsophere was beautiful, but I would hesitate to recommend it. I got a package that was 2.5 hours long and included a massage and facial, and complimentary reflexology foot massage. although the massage was great, the facial was more of a feel-good face wash, and the complimentary foot massage was done during the facial - which cut the facial time in half. So, my 70 min facial was only 30 minutes. Also, this is not my favorite beach, Chaweng. It is in a cove and doesn't easily receive the flow of fresh ocean water, so it is often very stale, almost stagnant. It was a very dirty beach, but the Amari tried very hard to keep their 'section' of the beach immaculate. Very few people swim in the sea at this end.
Also, the restaurants do theme nights too like lobster night, steak night, beach party night. I'd really recommend the beach party. Book it at reception as it's very popular. They decorate the beach very nicely with tables and lights and serve everything from crab to chicken. The dessert table is not to be missed! Also, there is entertainment on the beach as well.
We loved this hotel and the service was better than I've ever revceived. However, due to the beach I wouldn't stay here again. But, if you're not bothered with swimming in the ocean, you'll love it here. Ahh....If only they could pick up the resort and move it to another part of the island.....
Top Local Tips for Koh Samui
Antica Napoli restaurant in Chaweng beach We went back to this place twice. If you're getting a little tired of Thai food, their wood-burning oven pizza is excellent. Also had a great pasta here. Owner is from Italy.
Cheung Road Outside Starbucks is a wonderful place to people watch, near Christies!!. you will find out about that when you get there!!! The banana, honey pancakes from the street vender near buy are wonderful. We went to a restaurant on the beach run by a Swiss guy, it was wonderful. If you love coffee try the iced cans of coffee from the supermarket, think it was called Birdie, its lovely.
Snake Farm Avoid this place like the plague, we thought it was a wind up when we initially walked in, most and I mean 60% of the animals are DEAD and the snake/scorpion show was drawn out and ultra boring, an absolute rip-off.
