We have travelled the world extensively for the last 35 years. This was our sixth time at sofitel and central village hua hin.To us it is paradise one of the most beautiful and friendly/efficent hotels you could possibly visit.
Long hard travel to get there, but worth it as soon as you step into the wonderful foyer and embrace the surroundings, wonderful gardens, excellant rooms and views.
we just hope we can return again sometime.
Dreams are made of this.

Honeymooners paradise

The Sofitel Hua Hin exceeded all our expectations and proved to be the highlight of our Thailand honeymoon. From a frantic week in Bangkok coping with the traffic, hustle and chaos of everything that makes the place so great, Hua Hin was the complete opposite and the ideal way to unwind out. From the first sight of the magnificent marble lobby, the complimentary drinks on signing in and the heart shaped bouquet of roses on the bed awaiting us in our room, our only regret is that we had to eventually leave!! The grounds are beautiful with many trees manicured into the shape of elephants, birds, etc. An onsite golf course, gardens and waterfeatures abound with a delicate scent of frangipane and a real sense of royal decadence. The staff were hospitable and their attention to detail and customer satisfaction was exemplary. Our balconey provided magnificent views of white sand and palm trees lining the hotel grounds and was the endearing memories of a special time we'll never forget. We are planning to visit Sofitel Hua Hin again but we will ensure we spend more time there second time around and recommend without reservation to any others considering a trip not to go past this resort. We feel fortunate to have had the pleasure to visit this paradise and cannot speak more highly or complementary about Sofitel Hua Hin. We loved it - so will you.

This hotel is one of the worlds best kept secrets. I've lived and traveled all over Asia and extensively in Thailand. The staff, food, and rooms are out of this world. A bit dearer than the average hotels in Thailand but go on and spoil yourself it's the best place to destress.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sofitel Centara Grand Resort & Villas Hua Hin Hotel

A little snobbish

from fluffyjo
Nice colonial styled hotel with great beachfront and more than enough gardens and swimming pools. Overall not that bad but i find the caucasians are given much more attention than to the Thais or any other Asians. A little of a double standard there. Too many 'matured guests', great place to relax and take things real slow. Oh yes, i did read the review here and tried the restaurant that was recommended. Name is Papa John at left side of the hotel's entrance and I would recommend having a much more relaxing & economical breakfast/lunch/dinner at this restaurant instead of the ones located in the hotel (Unless u are caucasians of course!)

five night review

from p750777
This is a lovely hotel. We stayed in a Club/executive superior room for five nights (May 28 - June 2nd 2006) Our room was not ready on arrival at 3pm due to a big conference the day before but we were offered afternoon tea free whilst waiting for the room.

The rooms are relatively small by Asian resort standards but was very well equiped and comfortable. The Club benefits meant 2 pieces laundry per day, mid morning snacks, afternoon tea, evening drink in the bar and a discount at the spa.

The breakfast spead is fantastic and comprehensive with excellent quality. It included Asian/Western options.

The resort is centrally located in Hua Hin and ideally situated for all amenities - is restaurants/shops/bars etc. The hotel offers three different pools which are relatively small but very pleasant. the beach is not the best in Thailand by far but pleasant to walk along and never busy.

The hotel is colonial in style and is very well run and managed with generally excellent levels of service. It is also very popular and I would thoroughly recommend.

Sorry, but nobody is interested in your gold card and no true comments, like "by the way, smoking in Thai hotel rooms is illegal".
The staff of this hotel is very polite and helps you every time. But you know : how you you call in the forest ........
Since novemre 2005 Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort is fully booked till end of high season and i think there is a reason .

The staff at this hotel lied to me three times:

I booked a Superior Room for three nights on the Sofitel website and quoted my Sofitel Privilege Gold Card number (the Gold Card entitles you to a room upgrade, subject to availability). I also presented the card to the reception staff upon my arrival. We were shown a room which was nice but small, so I asked whether we could receive a better room, which was also closer to the sea. Were shown a room of exactly similar features and size as the previous room, but in a noisier area of the hotel (due to a Beach Jazz Festival due to take place a couple of days later). I then asked whether my Gold Card status doesnt entitle me to an upgrade. The lady from the hotel informed me that no Deluxe rooms were available. In the end we ended up with the first room.

I didnt believe her and went to check on the internet. Using the Sofitel website again, I was able to book a Deluxe room at this very hotel for the same days which I had previously booked. I printed out a copy of this almost-completed booking and showed it to the same lady. She started to studder and claimed that all she knew was that there were no Deluxe rooms available. Hence, here I caught them with lie number one - deluxe rooms were available.

An hour later I received a call from the duty manager who informed me that a Deluxe room had 'suddenly' become available due to the early departure of some guests. I was asked to wait for 30-45 minutes so the staff had time to clean the room for us. I said yes but went down to the reception after only 5 minutes asking to see the room. The duty manager took me to the room which not only fully cleaned already, but had no signs of having recently been cleaned (e.g. wet bathroom, fresh scent, cleaning staff on the floor level). In the end I didnt take the room as it stank of cold smoke (by the way, smoking in Thai hotel rooms is illegal). This is where I caught them with lie number two - the room was available at our arrival.

On our last day I asked for a late check-out (Gold Card gives you late check-out option till 4pm). I was told that the normal check-out time is 11am, but that I could stay until 1pm. Once again I pointed out the benefits of the Gold Card, but I was told that this was subject to availability - another check on the Sofitel website stipulated no such condition. Hence, this was lie number three - I was asked to leave before I had to.

I find it incredible that the hotel has the audacity to lie to its customers in such a manner. I find it unbelievable that they dealt with me in such a manner, and I am deeply disappointed. Certainly having a Sofitel Gold Card is useless, and I shall not return to another Sofitel.

Apart from the above problems, the hotel was nice, even though the rooms are in need of renovation. The service was good, although at times staff was snobby and unhelpful (my girlfriend was trying to move a sunbed to a better location while the pool attendant was just lazy looking at her until I gave him a nasty look).

Where is the adult pool??

Have been to this hotel twice and absolutely love it!! The staff are helpful and friendly and the service is first class. The rooms are well equipped, spacious and cleaned to a high standard daily. We have alays requested a room in the new section of the hotel (close to the reception) but I have viewed the rooms in the older section and although obviously older are substantionally larger than the newer.
The breakfast buffet is fantastic and caters for all tastes and requirements. We often ate at the hotel restaurants/evening buffets and it was excellent. Try 'Papa-Johns' restaurant (out of main entrance and 60 metres away on left). The imported steaks here are outstanding!!!!
My only moan and it's a small one is that over the weekend or during a Thai holiday, the hotel obviously becomes busier with locals from Bangkok. That's fine as you simply can't question their choice of hotel but I just wish the hotel management would make just one of the three fantastic pools - adult only! Please don't get me wrong here, I am a father of a ten yr. old so am definately 'child-friendly' but the shreeks, screams, shouts and scaldings can test ones patience in such a serene and beautiful location.
Just one other tip - am a keen golfer and played all the surrounding courses. Lake View is my #1 choice and Springfield #2. The other courses don't get close to the aforementioned. Your tee times can be booked from the hotel but be advised that it's considerably cheaper to ring the courses direct and book with them and also ask their shuttle bus to pick you up.
Enjoy this hotel and your holiday in Hua Hin!!

Excellent hotel with service to match

from Warwicktraveller29
We spent some time here in January 2006, having previously stayed in 2002. The hotel has a superb open reception area and all staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The bedrooms are spread over a number of wings and may involve quite a lengthy walk. They are generally well maintained. We did have a problem with the bathroom plug not operating properly but we reported this to reception on the way to breakfast and it had been fixed by the time we returned to our room.
There are 3 pools and the attendants are very helpful in finding loungers and supplying towels. Despite the hotel being very busy there always appeared to be space available.
The food in all restaurants was of a high standard and we attended two of the themed restaurant evenings where the quality and choice was excellent.
Hua Hin is an established town and not a "get away from it all" resort. It has a good choice of shops, markets and restaurants, in the case of the latter, just choose one that is full and you will not go far wrong.

Hotel very nice - location either love it or hate it!

from GillyHolidayJunkie
I stayed at the Evason a while ago in Hua Hin which is a stunning hotel but really expensive to eat/drink there and a good car ride out of town. This time, I thought I would stay in the town itself to give me more options for eating and drinking. It is right in the middle of the town but a bit of an exotic oasis so you probably get the best of both worlds. The rooms are very nice, large and comfortable in a restored grandeur sort of way. My big disappointment was the beach. It is a public beach and I guess I am used to deserted miles of white powder sand. This, is HEAVING, with horses (who poo everywhere and run into you) and backpackers etc. Having said that, the hotel has 3 lovely pools so you can still sunbathe peacefully. It is a lovely hotel, and if you want action it will be perfect. If you want more a romantic hide away - probably best to go for one of the more remote ones and brace yourself to pay top dollar for food/drink there being a captive audience.

It was a nightmare for me and my colleagues

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was a company incentive trip for a group of 10 of us. On the first day of our stay, before we left our hotel room, we indicated 'do not disturb' as we haven't fully unpacked and didn't need any turndown service. But when we return to our hotel room that night, my colleague and I realised that our rooms were made up despite our indication and about S$200 worth of cash was missing!

We went down to the customer service counter at the lobby to relate our situation to the staff. She said firmly that the hotel is not liable for any missing cash that's not kept in the safe. However they were not able to explain why the hotel staff had made up our room despite us indicating that we do not need a turndown service! And when we asked to speak to the staff who had made up our room, the staff grew agitated and pointed that one of my colleagues may have stolen the money! At this point, we demanded to see the manager, but the receptionist claimed he had left and asked that we return the following day.

Next day, to our disgust, the public relations manager adopted the same attitude as the receptionist and claimed no liability, are not the least sympathetic and at one point, threaten to check the entire group out of the hotel.

Finally, we decided to let the matter rest, since we are getting nowhere. However, those of us who have booked several of the hotel's spa packages decided to cancel and bring our money elsewhere.

Wonderful holiday at Sofitel Central

from Lamorna
Beautiful hotel, staff and facilities. We loved the grounds which were peaceful and very relaxing. The staff were so helpful all the time and just can't do enough for you. Our room (superior) was very good.

Don't be frightened to try the local restaurants - the Jasmine was excellent, and the restaurant that is also an art gallery (can't remember the name). So cheap and really good food. The hotel restaurants are also excellent and the buffet evenings offered really good value.

We indulged in the massage at the Spa - true it was more expensive than locally but still excellent value.

Trip to River Kwai from the hotel was really interesting but a very long day.

Can't recommend enough to anyone thinking of booking. We prefer the colonial "resort" type hotel to the skyscraper hotels (like the Hilton next to it) but it is a matter of personal preference. All I can say is that being in their own grounds makes you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the town - which is great for walking around at night. We never felt threatened and although the market sellers continually ask you to buy, they are never rude when you say no - as they say it is the land of smiles!

triple room

from sal.gram
Beautiful hotel but we had some problems with our booking which still have not been sorted out 3 months later. Basically wanted a triple room but had to upgrade as 'put you up' bed provided would not have been big enough for an 8 year old let alone our 15 year old daughter.

Top Local Tips for Hua Hin

water currents the beach is beautiful but if you are not a strong swimer stick to the pool. very strong currents and high waves ( nov/Dec)

Train oh train If you plan on taking first class train car to Hua Hin, don't forget to set your alarm clock; as the return first class car to Bangkok is leaving quite early in the morning. Plus, you can't buy those tickets more than 24hrs in advance unless it was booked a month earlier. There is always the possibility of renting a car or hiring a driver.

on arrival Stay in Bangkok on arrival. We got there pretty exhausted.
