However, I would certainly query it's 4* status due to the lack of basic facilities, eg there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom and the minibar consisted of a couple of bottles of water, a soft drink and a chocolate bar. The sunbeds around the pool were large teak but no cushions were provided making them very uncomfortable for more than 10 minutes or so, and no pool towels were provided.
The breakfast was truly awful. Teas and coffees were self-service and provided in plastic cups. The bread (for toast) was white only and sweet! The cooked foods were the worst being served at a lukewarm temperature. Particularly bad were the sausages (boiled frankfurters), still soaking in water and the ham also soaking in water. Unfortunately, the hotel isn't within walking distance of any other restaurants where you can pick up an alternative breakfast.
The bar doesn't appear to open in the evenings and the bars nearby seems to serve only beer or whisky.
We chose to upgrade to a superior room but the only difference was that they were located poolside - the size and quality of the rooms was just the same as the standard accommodation but with bathroom amenities (though no face flannels) and very scratchy bathrobes.
The staff were OK though pretty indifferent compared to other 4* hotels in Thailand.
The basics are all there - it just needs those little homely extras to bring it up to standard.

The location of this hotel is in the city of Chiang Rai, easy access to city with its temples, as well as mini golf course, jogging track, the main shopping and entertainment areas.
The staff are the nicest that I have ever had the pleasure to have dealt with. They are kind, gentle. They are always turned out in very attractive and smiles.
Our room was large, spacious, and beautifully simple decorated. The bathroom was equally well designed, with toilet, huge sink,a separate shower, with both a regular shower and an overhead rain shower. The bed were so comfortable, with soft blankets and pillows. For business users, the wireless Internet access are available. If you bring your own notebook is free of charge.
Cleaning was completely efficient.
We used the pool and Jacuzzi. it was very huge and clean.
The hotel offers a fascinating day trip to Golden Triagle, and the King's Mother Palace at Doi Tung. You are driven by van in the morning for approximately 1 hour, then hours of guided sight-seeing in various mountains, including optional hilltribe villages and elephant rides.
The one thing which we did find very cheap was the massage and beauty treatments available from 300 TB,
Tips:
- Tip the staff well.
- Book a massage. I had a lady give me a fantastic one hour massage in the comfort of my hotel room, all for just over ~8USD. When I gave her roughly the same again as a tip, she was absolutely over the moon!
- Take one of the hotel's business cards with you when you leave to go into the city for the day. Many taxi (Tuk Tuk)drivers cannot read or speak English very well, and the business card gives directions back to Laluna Resort.

Top Local Tips for Chiang Rai
Attractions Chiang Rai is definately worth a visit on its own, and there is pleanty to see there. We really enjoyed visiting Wat Rong Khun = The White Temple, which is an amazingly different temple but still very Thai. Take a good look at the mural on the opposite from the Buddha! The temple is not far from Chiang Rai, so just take tuk-tuk. We had a beautiful day in the tea plantations of Doi Mae Salong, green and oh so real. We also visited the Monkey Cave, and enjoyed that too - but beware of the monkeys if you have any fruit, thet can get really agressive (a monk saved us by using a sling-shot!)
Night Bazaar Make sure you take time to go to the Night Bazaar. It is much more relaxed place to shop than in Chiang Mai or Bangkok.
Doi Thung Is really a must see excursion for anybody that likes a beautiful garden. It is high in the nearby mountains, about 30 kilometres away. There are many trips available there and this is really one of the most beautiful gardens in the World.
