Clean, tidy, friendly staff. Nice breakfast/western style food across the road at good prices. In the heart of the night markets.

Top Local Tips for Chiang Mai

Whole Earth restaurant Dine here - the food is beautiful. It's not really cheap but then it's not too expensive either. You have to remove your shoes on entering which was quirky, but added to the ambience.

Elephant camp Shop around the many tourist shops for day trips. The price ranges are enormous. We spent a wonderful day at the elephant camp. The price was half of that quoted by the cab driver that drove us from the airport to hotel

SKip Celadon and opt for the sights outside of Chang Mai If you are going to buy the Celadon pottery check for prices in your own country first and then if you still think you need to buy it in Chang Mai, make some enquires about the price to ship it to your destination port.Go instead to the mountains for hiking, elephant trekking, the 2,3 and 4 day overnight hiking excusrsions, or Doi Inthanon, the highest mountian in Thailand. The gardens on top of the mountains near the King and Queen's Chedis are so beatutiful! There are some wonderful waterfalls in the area and visitng the hill tribes is a very eye opening experience. Make sure that you take some good hiking shoes and be aware of the dry leaves on the trail that can make the downhill trails very slippery.
