Top Local Tips for Chiang Mai

Cooking School If interested in doing any cooking courses while you are in Chiang Mai, I would certainly recommend going to Kao Hom (www.kaohom.com)! It was slightly more expensive than others I looked into, but for that extra, you got transport included, a well organised lesson in a beautiful setting. We cooking in and outdoor kitchen and then ate our achievements in the garden. There was Kanchana the teacher and 4 other helpers in a class of eight. All the ingredients were prepared and wrapped in bowls and instruction was very clear and easy to follow. The food we made was just great. We wanted to go again for a second day, but they were fully booked. Having been there, I don't think I'd pay a little less to go anywhere else.

Most polluted place I've been for a long time Chiang Mai is a lovely city. There are excellent temples, food, shopping. But the level of pollution from cars and tuk tuks is diabolical. The old city is ok, and the hills around are fine but elsewhere it was a nightmare. My wife's eyes never stopped running and she got red eye. My asthmatic cough returned with a vengeance. The worst place was the zoo where cars are allowed to drive around. The poor animals might as well be force fed cigarettes
