Good standard of hygiene throughout. Service quick and pleasant. Breakfast excellent. Rooms are suited with a separate sitting area complete with TV and bar. Hotel facilities are good - pool is excellent. Taken 2 points off, one for poolside and cocktail bar drink prices and the other for the slightly tired look to the bathroom. Overall fantastic value for money - I recommend it.

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Beware A tip, something I wish I had known before arriving in Bangkok: If you want to go somewhere by cab or tuk-tuk, you have to be extremely firm to actually get to your destination. They will tell you that your destination is closed, but they know another place (which is paying them to bring you there). We tried to go to a bar the first night and our taxi driver told us that it was closed, but he knew the “#1 disco in Bangkok”- which turned out to be a horrible, cheesy club with an outrageous cover charge. Luckily we learned our lesson before going jewelry shopping the next day. We had the address of a specific store and gave only the street name and number to the tuk-tuk driver. When we got close to the location he figured out that we were going to a jewelry store, and he didn’t want to stop – we actually had to start getting out of the tuk-tuk before he would stop. He clearly had a “#1 jewelry store” in mind to take us to instead! Know where you’re going before you get in a cab, and don’t take “advice” or let them convince you to go somewhere else.

Nearest sports bar.... Located just up the road is the "sports corner" bar. Owned and run by an expat American, just about every sport was covered. We had a great nigh there watching Australia play in the cricket World cup. Note: This is a bar that has some "friendly" girls. Didn't bother us and we had a great time with the locals and expats alike but be warned if you might be offended by their presence.

On the bus My top tip if you're on a budget or just want to travel with locals is to take the bus. Invest all of about 50 baht in a bus map. It's invaluable and will really help you to find your way around easily and with confidence. Maps are sold on streets everywhere.
