The Sofitel is one of the best hotels I ever visited.
Excellent service, very friendly, the rooms a dream with wooden floor and a bathroom I would like to have at home (I fyou are lucky to stay in a room on a higher lever the view is incredible out of the room high windows.
Look out from the bar in the top level. The breakfast buffet is unbelievable good.
Silom rd with near Patpong and 2 stations to the river with the skytrain.
Stay there when you are in BKK.
The only small but: the skytrain is about 5-10 min walking away or take a taxi.

Absolutely Fantastic

from ct5050
This Hotel was superb, totally beyond my expectations, the service was amazing the staff attentative, the quality of rooms the decor, the location was excellent. This was my 2nd trip and could not find fault with this Hotel, you must pay a visit to V9 bar on the top floor, brilliant views across the city and a really lovely trendy bar, not cheap but worth every penny.

The only one thing I would say to this hotels detriment was the pool was too small, and undercover, but thats the only thing.

Okay but not great. Service is not that good.

Just returned home on a 1-week business trip from BKK. Could not wait to post this review. I did not have a single night's good sleep for the whole week of stay there. For a consecutive 3 nights there would be some loud American men walking past my room at midnight laughing and chatting as if they were standing in my room. Every morning starting from 6:30am there would be noises of toilet flushing, showering, tap running and door closing. And on the last evening before I checked out, some staff were still vaccuming loudly one room away from mine at 10:30pm...until I could not stand it anymore, stormed out of my door and said "EXCUSE ME!!!"

The room is badly lit with 2 out of the 3 lamps' shades in dark blue. I could hardly read in my bed. No second phone is on the working desk, a bit inconvenient when you are on business trip working in the evening.

Talking about the breakfast, most of the waiters and waitresses deliberately avoided eye contact with hotel guests. One early morning when hardly anyone was in the restaurant one waitress kept strolling and day dreaming a few tables away from me but she was just not looking at any customer, until I raised my voice at her. And nobody would refill your tea/coffee even though they walk past you a few times.

On the Sunday when I arrived, I asked the conceirge what time Central Department Store closed. The reply was "10pm and it's very close to the hotel." Guess what, it took me 20 minutest to walk there and by the time I got there at 9:10pm, it was closed!!! The 10pm operating hour is for Central Chitlom, not Silom!!!

Then my husband called me at the hotel and they transferred him without asking for the guest name...

All these really offset how nice the hotel looks, and the location advantage etc. (by the way it takes you at least 10 minutes to walk to the closest Skytrain station). Le Meridien is much better with similar price range I believe...

Great time at the Sofitel Silom

Loved my 3-nite stay there. From check-in, room quality, bellhops service, wonderful choice of restaurants and lots of smiles from the staff , this hotel is definitely worth a second visit. Not for though who want to stay close to the shopping centres. This offers a wonderful repose from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Bangkok. Had wonderful dinners at the V9, Shanghai 38, Mistral and the Nikai. All good service and reasonably priced.

Stayed here twice already, will definitely do so again

Stayed twice at the Sofitel so far this year. The first time I was very happy with the room, for the price. The second time I was upgraded for some reason, so I was even happier! Both rooms had great views of the city. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were very nicely laid out. Broadband access was cheap.

I loved the convenience of being in the city center and having the choice of walking to nearby restaurants and bars or taking short taxis. The second time I stayed was Songkran [New Years Eve Water Festival], so the walk was wetter than might normally have been expected for this time of year :-)

Took about 45 minutes to get to/from the airport, which was a little further than I'd expected.

Will definitely stay here on my next trip.

Excellent Hotel

from Tapdance01
This is a great hotel. As soon as we entered this hotel the staff could not do enough for us, which made you feel special. We were upgraded to a spotless Club room with a great view over the city on 25th floor, with rather large beds. When you are in a club room you have the option to have the complimentary breakfast and drinks between 5 and 7pm in the club lounge to watch the sunset. We really liked V9 bar / restaurant, great view's, food and drinks, expensive for Thailand but well worth it !! Hotel close to Patpong, with good markets. Sky train 5 minutes from the hotel and takes you to all the shopping malls. We found Bangkok easy to get around with taxis aswell, we had no problems getting metered taxi's from the hotel.

Overall, try it you will love it !!

Excellent Hotel, Good location

Before hitting backpacker trail, it was hard to resist the price of a first night stay in a nice hotel before slumming it in hostels.
This hotel exceeded my expectations as a Travel Agent and far exceeded anything I was going to stay in for the rest of my trip.
Why this hotel is good- Excellent quality, friendly porters and staff (who upgraded us from a luxury room to an even nicer one with fantastic views of the city) good location. Go to the V9 Bar in the hotel its a very trendy if expensive place to eat and drink but its definately a must. Rooms are big and spacious with nice furnishings. Public transport costs is a learning experience (you'll see what I mean) just a bit of advice don't get the taxi's right outside the hotel entrance.

Great hotel, so-so location, terrible beds

from OffTheBeatenPath
This is a lovely hotel, with nice rooms, well-appointed bathrooms, and good services. It seemed like the perfect place to sleep after a 20-hour flight, until I sat down on the bed. My mattress was like a solid slab of granite.

My mattress was my only complaint about the hotel service. The bars and restaurants in the hotel were very nice, and there were good massage places around the corner. The hotel service was sufficient without being annoying -- cleaning and nightly turndown service with a mint. Internet service was a bit pricey, but I was willing to overlook it.

Overall, though, if you're in Thailand for tourism, the Sofitel Silom might not be your best choice unless you want to take full advantage of the tourist --- clubs in Patpong. It's hard to get a cab to tourist sites from the hotel; multiple cabs picked us up at the hotel and then dropped us off two blocks away insisting that they couldn't drive us to the tourist sites (meaning that the hotel required them to pick us up on the meter and then they didn't want to take us on the meter).

Other than that, though, this hotel was quite good -- except for the rock-hard mattress.

After much research on Tripadvisor, I decided on the Sofitel Silom in Bangkok. We needed a hotel in Bangkok for two nights at the end of 8 days of working in Phuket rebuilding homes in the Tsanami area. We needed a place to relax before long plane ride home and a good base to tour Bangkok for a day. We did not want to spend a lot since we would not be in the room very much. We could not have found a better place. From the moment our taxi dropped us off, we were treated wonderfully. Every door was opened for us, pleasent smiles, great views from our 18 floor room. Comforable bed and the bathroom was a welcome sight. All this and breakfast included with a great view from the 38th floor for $65 us per night including all taxes. Wow.
And the location was a 5 minute walk to the skytrain station and street venders and restaurants right outside the door.

average stay

ok if you arelooking for executive floor facilities and to feel like a vip dont stay here. if you want mediocre service and so so executive floor stay here. My partner and i had 4 nights at the sofitel silon road bangkok. we paid for an deluxe club room on the 31st floor. The rooms are quite small, the BED ROCK HARD, pillows are too soft. The executive floor breakfast is quite good but the canapes from 1800-2000 are pathetic. 3 choices & 10 mins to wait for a drink. The staff are inconsistent from a service level point of view. For the price its not good enough, i guess the 1 saving grace is that pat pong is down the road

Loved it!

I usually stay in a fine hotel when in Bangkok. There are so many... Most recently, January, we stayed at the Peninsula. Prior to arriving at that fine hotel we stumbled upon the Sofitel Silom. I would argue it is a far better value than the Peninsula or the Oriental. The hotel, from a design standpoint is fabulous. The staff gracious. The rooms devine. I would especially recomment the club floors. The 37th floor 360 degree view bar with smart dj and extensive wine collection is truly not to be missed. Style and substance. This hotel delivers.

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Great shopping center and night market Siam Paragon, very upscale shopping center and Suan-Lum Night Bazaar, a galore of stuff. Even if you're not into shopping it's still a great visit.

Don't waste time on Floating Markets The "Floating Market" and "Rose Garden" tour takes all day and frankly I though we would have enjoyed something else more. The floating market is exactly 2 blocks long and rimmed with tourist shops. I actually thought this was a place the locals came, wrong just a tourist trap. Then the lunch at the Rose Garden includes a the "cultural center". I should have known better these places are usually better seen in 20 minutes than 2 hours. The whole day is gone and you could have taken a river tour to Auythawa, gone to the Tiger Temple (awesome experience) or revisited the Palace, Musuems, etc.

Banyan Tree Hotel/Thai Boxing The Banyan Tree has a roof top restraunt/bar which was recommended to us by friends, it was a fantastic setting for a romantic meal, although a bit heavy on the pocket but worth it! Would also recommend a trip to the Thai Boxing, it was fun, we had a great night there, watch out for the local beer though, it's rather potent!
