Absolutely Fantastic
from ct5050The only one thing I would say to this hotels detriment was the pool was too small, and undercover, but thats the only thing.
Okay but not great. Service is not that good.
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe room is badly lit with 2 out of the 3 lamps' shades in dark blue. I could hardly read in my bed. No second phone is on the working desk, a bit inconvenient when you are on business trip working in the evening.
Talking about service...at the breakfast, most of the waiters and waitresses deliberately avoided eye contact with hotel guests. One early morning when hardly anyone was in the restaurant one waitress kept strolling and day dreaming a few tables away from me but she was just not looking at any customer, until I raised my voice at her. And nobody would refill your tea/coffee even though they walk past you a few times.
On the Sunday when I arrived, I asked the conceirge what time Central Department Store closed. The reply was "10pm and it's very close to the hotel." Guess what, it took me 20 minutest to walk there and by the time I got there at 9:10pm, it was closed!!! The 10pm operating hour is for Central Chitlom, not Silom!!!
Then my husband called me at the hotel and they transferred him without asking for the guest name...
All these really offset how nice the hotel looks, and the location advantage etc. (by the way it takes you at least 10 minutes to walk to the closest Skytrain station). Le Meridien is much better with similar price range I believe...
Great time at the Sofitel Silom
from A TripAdvisor MemberStayed here twice already, will definitely do so again
from addicted2travelI loved the convenience of being in the city center and having the choice of walking to nearby restaurants and bars or taking short taxis. The second time I stayed was Songkran [New Years Eve Water Festival], so the walk was wetter than might normally have been expected for this time of year :-)
Took about 45 minutes to get to/from the airport, which was a little further than I'd expected.
Will definitely stay here on my next trip.
Excellent Hotel
from Tapdance01Overall, try it you will love it !!
Excellent Hotel, Good location
from YohanThis hotel exceeded my expectations as a Travel Agent and far exceeded anything I was going to stay in for the rest of my trip.
Why this hotel is good- Excellent quality, friendly porters and staff (who upgraded us from a luxury room to an even nicer one with fantastic views of the city) good location. Go to the V9 Bar in the hotel its a very trendy if expensive place to eat and drink but its definately a must. Rooms are big and spacious with nice furnishings. Public transport costs is a learning experience (you'll see what I mean) just a bit of advice don't get the taxi's right outside the hotel entrance.
Great hotel, so-so location, terrible beds
from OffTheBeatenPathMy mattress was my only complaint about the hotel service. The bars and restaurants in the hotel were very nice, and there were good massage places around the corner. The hotel service was sufficient without being annoying -- cleaning and nightly turndown service with a mint. Internet service was a bit pricey, but I was willing to overlook it.
Overall, though, if you're in Thailand for tourism, the Sofitel Silom might not be your best choice unless you want to take full advantage of the tourist --- clubs in Patpong. It's hard to get a cab to tourist sites from the hotel; multiple cabs picked us up at the hotel and then dropped us off two blocks away insisting that they couldn't drive us to the tourist sites (meaning that the hotel required them to pick us up on the meter and then they didn't want to take us on the meter).
Other than that, though, this hotel was quite good -- except for the rock-hard mattress.
Outstanding
from dillardrAnd the location was a 5 minute walk to the skytrain station and street venders and restaurants right outside the door.

from JJ_KalnsTop Local Tips for Bangkok
Great shopping center and night market Siam Paragon, very upscale shopping center and Suan-Lum Night Bazaar, a galore of stuff. Even if you're not into shopping it's still a great visit.
Don't waste time on Floating Markets The "Floating Market" and "Rose Garden" tour takes all day and frankly I though we would have enjoyed something else more. The floating market is exactly 2 blocks long and rimmed with tourist shops. I actually thought this was a place the locals came, wrong just a tourist trap. Then the lunch at the Rose Garden includes a the "cultural center". I should have known better these places are usually better seen in 20 minutes than 2 hours. The whole day is gone and you could have taken a river tour to Auythawa, gone to the Tiger Temple (awesome experience) or revisited the Palace, Musuems, etc.
Banyan Tree Hotel/Thai Boxing The Banyan Tree has a roof top restraunt/bar which was recommended to us by friends, it was a fantastic setting for a romantic meal, although a bit heavy on the pocket but worth it! Would also recommend a trip to the Thai Boxing, it was fun, we had a great night there, watch out for the local beer though, it's rather potent!

Excellent service, very friendly, the rooms a dream with wooden floor and a bathroom I would like to have at home (I fyou are lucky to stay in a room on a higher lever the view is incredible out of the room high windows.
Look out from the bar in the top level. The breakfast buffet is unbelievable good.
Silom rd with near Patpong and 2 stations to the river with the skytrain.
Stay there when you are in BKK.
The only small but: the skytrain is about 5-10 min walking away or take a taxi.
