book in advance Always book your hotels in advance, i am Thai and through this recent trip have noticed a bad character traits in some thais who swindle tourists for a career. i booked my hotel with an agent at the airport who gave me the wrong hotel at a pretty steep price plus he had me pay for both nights up front without having even seen the hotel in person. since he was probably receiving commision and figured i wouldn't go all the way back to the airport to ask for a change of location or money back. I speak decent thai so i know i cleary communicated to him that i need a hotel near Khosan rd. or Sukhumvit rd. since i wanted to do some shopping, this agent lied through his teethand sent me to a hotel so out of the way, that the nearest shopping center was 20 min by taxi. since then i always book in advace either on the net or by phone and definitely with lots of research on trip advisor.

tuk tuk Dont be afraid to jump on a tuk tuk. (Its one of those things you can put down to experience) Dont listen to all these warnings about tuk tuk drivers. I agree that some do try and overcharge you or want to take you somewhere else. Just be firm and agree to a price before getting on. If they persist about taking you elsewhere just catch another tuk tuk. SImple. Remember this is how they make a living, they dont earn much.

Never accept the first price for tuk tuks or market goods. We knew about bargaining for lower prices in Thailand but we overpaid the first few days. offer at least 60% less than what they ask. That goes for markets too. Walk away if they dont drop. There are plenty more tuk tuks and when you start walkin the price starts fallin
