Staff not motivated, building site, 1 hour from center of Bangkok!

Only added value is the view on the river, but than you must reserve (more expensive)river view room. Too big massive unpersonal building. Stylish groundfloor. So stylish they do not allow guests to sit in the lobby with a small back pack. Rooms are old and absolutely not stylish at all. They are renovating, and this (noise producing) work does not stop during night hours. It takes 1 hour (roadwork in the area) to get to the "center" of Bangkok (e.g. MBK Center), and in rush hour even 2. That means IF you can find a taxi who knows the hotel and who does not refuse to take you there. Front office staff who's English is very poor. We had arranged a later check out time at a certain rate, but were all of a sudden 'kicked out' of the room in a very cold and irritating way telling us we had to pay a whole night extra for the room, knowing nothing about any other agreement. Been to Bangkok many times and can assure you there are many better hotels with better staff on a much better location!

Visited this hotel in October 2005 and had booked 6 nights in a Thai Suite but only stayed one night. The room was fine but the hotel is one massive building site with work going on from 8 am to midnight. There was drilling and banging on the floor below us and the hotel refused to stop work at a reasonable time. I would not visit this hotel for a good few months if you want to be able to sleep at night.

carry your shoes Take a bag with you and when you have to take them off in a temple put them in the bag and carry your shoes inside with you. Ours were stolen by one of the best known places.

A/C all day Use your spare plastic loyalty cards/credit cards in the room key holder to keep the air-conditioning on in the room whilst you are out. I know hotels use this mechanism to save electricity and environmental costs, but it can get very, very hot in the rooms during the day.

One Night in Bangkok Beware of taxis. We (three young women) found ourselves dumped out of a cab at 12:30 am when we refused to pay 200 baht for a 50 baht taxi ride. We were picked up from a very expensive dinner at the Banyan Hotels Vertigo and had our guard down. When we hailed the next cab he had no idea where we were going and drove us all around like a crazy man. One of the girls with us started crying...luckily we had a New Yorker with us so we ended up home safely,
