Good Hotel Starting to Show Wear

The President Solitaire is not a 5 star hotel. They offer serviced apartments on a short term basis. There are a number of amenities worth considering like the 42 inch Plasma TV. Rooms are large. I have stayed four times over two years. I have noticed the hotel is starting to wear. There are now a few too many stains on the furniture, a few too many minor maintenance issues to warrant their rates. My next stay in Bangkok will be elsewhere. The staff is accommodating. Unless they refurbish the rooms or reduced their rates to the $50 range, you can do better elsewhere.

Excellen value, great hotel

A fine hotel, and very reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone. Our room was very comfortable, plus included a flat screen TV and DVD player, and free internet access, all for less than $100 per night. Although it is not located along the river as are many of the highest rated Bangkok hotels, this was hardly a drawback. The Preseident Solitare is a 7-minute walk from the BRT elevated train, and also an easy walk to many restaurants.

Beautiful Rooms + Great Location

Stayed at President Solitaire May 22-25 for our honeymoon after researching the web and this site. I was not disappointed. We were upgraded for free from the Premier Suite and our room was amazing. Very modern with some tasteful traditional thai decor, well located in the heart of Sukhumvit near shops, bars, dining, and BTS skytrain. The hotel also has a great flatscreen TV, comfy bed, room service, beautiful ambience in front lobby, a decent pool, and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Fantastic even by Bangkok hotel standards

I have just returned from an 11 night stay at this wonderfully equipped and excellent value for money serviced apartment style hotel. The hotel itself was situated less than a 10 minute walk from the Nana BTS station which links most of the commercial shopping and entertainment areas along Sukhumvit Road, not that you’d have to walk this distance in any case as the hotel provided a complimentary tuk tuk service. Although not offering the plethora of in house restaurants, swimming pools, bars and shops that some of the larger more well known 4 & 5* hotels in Bangkok would offer, President Solitaire’s real trump card is the sheer size, quality and facilities provided in the suites themselves. We paid £75.00 per night for a ‘Platinum Suite’, the most expensive room type available at this hotel, and were delighted by the large room dimensions of 800 square feet, the huge king size four poster bed, marble Jacuzzi bathtub and of course the 2 televisions including a 42” plasma. Additional positive attributes included a cd/dvd player, free internet connection, wooden flooring, a very small kitchen area and remote controlled lighting.

Having stayed in many 4 and 5* hotels around South East Asia, where room size and quality is always generally superior to that offered in Western Europe, President Solitaire still stands out as exceptional at least in terms of the rooms on offer. I could also relay how friendly and efficient the cleaning, bellboy, security and reception staff were during our stay although this level of professionalism seems endemic in all the superior class hotels in the region. Needless to say the medium sized lobby area and our room itself were always meticulously clean and a real pleasure to come home to.

Whilst the room we stayed in was truly nothing short of spectacular, the same accolade could not however be bestowed upon the dining room and food quality. We felt that the buffet breakfast on offer in the hotels dining room, whilst being adequate, certainly didn’t justify the notably expensive 250 baht price tag. I would also strongly recommend that guests never order any Western food from the again expensive room service menu. Whilst all the Thai food was excellent, the pizzas we ordered one night tasted nothing short of terrible! Another word of caution is the 800 baht Mercedes limousine service offered to and from the airport. It may indeed be a relief to have someone waiting for you at the airport after a no doubt exhausting and long journey, but for all those other penny pinchers out there it might still instead be preferable to pay only 300 baht for the 30-50 minute journey using one of the many metered air conditioned taxis on offer (make sure you print out the hotel address beforehand however as the hotel is not well known).

These criticisms certainly shouldn’t negate however from the overall positive experience President Solitaire will offer most guests. If you’re someone who requires a large swimming pool, many restaurants and shops within the hotel itself than I would definitely suggest staying in the world class Peninsular or nearby Sheraton, but in terms of room quality and value for money, I would challenge anyone to do better than this little known Bangkok treasure.

If you are not bargain hunting, the President Solitiare is a good choice. It is a small but first class hotel with excellent service and amenities.The decor and room furnishings are what set this hotel apart from cheaper alternatives-hardwood floors, first class appliances, and beautiful furnishings. If you are tech geek, the President Solitaire has in room ADSL connections and modern large flat screen TV's with a full complement of channels.

I walked by this place a few times..Just a note its in Nana Plaza area..Seemed to be a lot of adult action in area.Not a great area to bring wife and the kids...Just what I observed......

Wonderful comfortable hotel, no complaints

Like others, I felt this is quite the hidden treasure. It's not in any guidebooks and a little off the beaten path, though in a main area of Bangkok and very convenient to the Nana skytrain station, walkable even in the oppressive Bangkok heat. (Though they do provide a free shuttle too) I called them from the US to arrange a US$20 limo ride from the airport, which was a godsend, arriving at 1 a.m. and not having to worry about cabs. It was all done well. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. Went to the 7-Eleven just a few doors down to stock up on food and drinks for the fridge, and though other reviewers thought the hotel better for business travelers, I found it very convenient for our sight-seeing and numerous shopping trips. The attached spa is wonderful as well, though getting closer to Western prices. The value was tremendous.

President Solitaire makes you feel like a President

Excellent service. Concierge Mr. Wilchian gave me the tips to be safe and visit all the "Must See" places. Will stay there again when in Bangkok!!

Great Location

We stayed at the P Solitaire and what a great place. The people were nice, the rooms were lovely and spacious and they provided a complimetary airport transfer and room upgrade. Would definitely stay there again.

An oasis!

This is a brilliant place. Huge rooms, beautifully done. We booked a suite (only about £50 for a night) and it included pick-up from the airport. This place is just the tops and is well-positioned in Bangkok. GO there!

No Problems!

My husband and I stayed at the President Solitaire during the last two nights of our trip in Thailand (beginning of Sept 05). It is tucked away quietly off of Soi 11, but within walking distance to the Nana Skytrain. We had only a short time in Bangkok and wanted to be centrally located and this turned out to be just fine. The staff was friendly and accomodating and took the time to translate the attractions we wanted to hit into Thai. We ended up using the notes to hand to taxi and tuk tuk drivers - it made the explanation muck easier. Also, be sure to grab a hotel card on the way out and use it to give to the cab drivers to get you "home". It is not the most well known hotel. As far as I know, all the rooms are suites with a sitting area and small kitchenette. Request a non-smoking room, if you prefer, ours was a bit smoky. Breakfast in the morning was a complete "american style" with eggs, bacon, and the like.
Overall, we had a nice stay and the pick up and drop off at the airport were well worth it. I strongly suggest that no matter where you stay - you at least arrange for a pick - it was such a relief when we arrived in Bangkok after a 22 hour trip to have someone standing there waiting for us rather than fighting the crowds and haggling about price with the cabbies.

Buying and Tipping It's not easy unless you are experienced in haggeling to buy anything at a nice price and can be and expensive holiday.

President Solitaire Airport PIckup/Dropoff Check for rates that include airport transfers.

BTS Use the BTS (skytrain) - its great. Don't go to the counter for your ticket, there are machines immediately near the entrance. If you need change go to the counter. Travelling is by section so you just need to know where you are going and pay for the journey. Or get a day ticket on the first day - its easier if you make mistakes and get off the wrong (or many) stations. Plus its airconditioned - brilliant!
