Great Hotel - Poor Receptionfrom A TripAdvisor Member
Other than that the hotel is well taken care of. It isn’t the best place for vegetarians though (great for non-veggies). A lot of the vegetarian options were not really vegetarian for the breakfast buffet.
For a hotel this size and class I am quite disappointed by the lack of imagination on their menu for vegetarians especially in a place like Thailand. This is also the reason why I didn’t dine there that often. Overall the hotel is OK. The staff are far too arrogant for their own good (mainly the reception). Do not expect traditional Thai hospitality here…it’s a real shame since the hotel is quite nice. I recommend their SPA treatment which although pricey was worth it.
Not very politefrom Sea98
Our reception was not very warm by the staff. I paid via the internet for our stay. The person who checked us in wanted to charge me again!
The room was fine. The best was the club room, worth paying to get it.
The restaurants very pricy indeed, wine more expensive the London west end!
A nice hotel in general.
Mixed feelingsfrom Rane
We had a hotel car transportation from the airport. On arrival to the hotel nobody seemed to care about us.I wrote to the general manager about that and some other points but he never repplied to me. Not to repply is overall impolite and very unusual in Thailand.
When checking out in the club lounge the lady had enormous difficulties to get the charges right. Check-out took over 20 mins. She did not regret that at all.
As there were seven of us in my party we stayed in the Club Athenee rooms, which enabled us to use the Lounge on the 26 floor, which was another huge bonus.
You could use this lounge till 11.00 pm and every afternoon they supplied complimentary afternoon tea and every evening cocktails with snacks, cakes, etc. We used this area as our meeting place and virtually only used our rooms to sleep and shower.
The buffet breakfasts were amazing and we never had to wait for a table and the staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough to help.
The skytrain station was just around the corner as well which made it easy to get to shopping centres, markets. When we wanted to go near the river we used taxis.
It's difficult to choose a hotel in Bangkok because there is so many good hotels to choose from but during the course of our 5 day stay went to various things at other hotels like the Oriental, Westin and Banyan Tree but we thought the Plaza Athenee was every bit as good as these hotels.
Outdoor pool oasisfrom Karen
Would recommend hotel car pick up from airport. Although expensive in Thai terms this was equivalent to prices in the UK. Being personally greeted in a foreign and strange airport and after long journey was greatly welcomed. Appreciated A/c in BMW and cool bottled water as we travelled.
Hotel foyer really does have the wow factor! Staff attentive and helpful although felt a little harrassed as they tried to make us upgrade which we didn't wish for.
Room very large and well equipped. Not great view.
Outdoor pool on 4th floor was fantastic. Very picturesque with garden areas etc and skyrsie backdrop and a great size pool to actually have a proper swim or just relax in.
My girlfriend really enjoyed the spa facilities. Although fairly pricey I was assured it was money well spent. She would recommend honey milk bath.
Excellent hotel for short stay
Excellent service and comfortable room.from paletexan
We were always greeted with a smile and the lobby was well staffed. The concierge was excellent and directly followed up with the airlines regarding luggage that was delayed in arrival.
The room was comfortable and spacious. We were greeted with exotic fruits daily, and the breakfast buffet exceeding our expectation with multi cultural offerrings and champaign/caviar. The only thing not great about the hotel, and it's a stretch, is the lobby which was ordinary.

Whether it is via your travel agent or the hotel website, make sure you get the breakfast buffet as part of the price. We had a pleasant surprise on arrival, being informed we would also get a free dinner buffet one of our evenings. And all the buffets were excellent, with the French accent on food shining through. And a couple nights we ordered a la carte at the cafe, with reasonable prices, good-sized portions, and good quality.
The outdoor pool on the 5th floor is a nice haven from the traffic. It's pretty, refreshing, and you just don't get any of the noise from down below.
The staff at the very accessible front desk was always helpful. Our only glitch came when one of my shirts came back 'overcooked' from the laundry even though written instructions were sent along asking them to read the label instructions. On pointing this out to the manager, he determined a very fair price for the shirt and deducted that from the bill. A gift (nice coffee mug) with a handwritten note from the manager was delivered to our room later that day. I was more than satisfied with their action.
I really have no hesitation recommending this hotel to just about anyone, whether business or leisure traveller. We had 2 regular rooms for my wife and I and our 2 kids (18 and 14). Each of us enjoyed our time at the hotel, and whenever we return to Bangkok the Plaza Athenee is where we'll stay.
Loved it!from meo
Beautiful hotelfrom goingtothesun
The pool area is simply poetic and serene. One of the lovliest I have seen. It made it difficult to venture into the hot and busy city.
The brunch at the lobby was not only the most beautiful, it had the best selection and highest quality foods. We were simply amazed at the displays and choices. The brunch alone is worth a trip back to Bangkok
The staff was friendly, professional and very accomodating. I especially appreciated the turndown service, which includes silk wrapped water bottles on both nightstands , orchids on the pillows and slippers on a mat near the bed. I would love a bathroom like this in my house. Huge shower seperate from a gigantic bathtub. The toiletries are quality and displayed very neatly.
For just one night or 14, I would highly reccomend this property.

Tuk tuks! Be wary of some tuk tuk drivers, or friendly people in the streets (who happen to know a tuk tuk driver round the corner) telling you that where you want to go is closed. Well worth getting tuk tuk anyway though, they are such fun! Just be sure you know where you are going so the driver doesn't talk you into going somewhere else where he might earn commission.
By taxi IPublic Taxi is not bad and cheaper than airport limousine. Conveince to call for taxi.
