Great hotel in a great location
from TaniquanDisapointed
from RnDKirbyFantastic !
from softiegalThe room was not small at all. It was a good size and so was the bathroom. It was nice and clean and had a mini bar/fridge and cable TV.
The views from the room were great. We stayed in room 1321 (13th floor). Ask for a room with a view of the MBK center.
The buffet breakfast and dinner were both excellent with a huge variety of food.
I didn't use the gym/pool, so I can't comment, but it looked nice.
The nightclub is quite seedy, but we still had a good night dancing there! Good place for single men, if you know what I mean :)
The location of the Novotel is amazing. Right near the MBK center (walking distance). If your female and love clothes, make sure you get a cab to the "Platinum". There are many floors of great clothes for really cheap. You can spend a full day shopping there!
I highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again at my next stay!
Ten out of ten
from Dee28Many reviewers have said that the hotel was run down but our room was fantastic as were all the facilities that we used. The breakfast selection was one of the best we have ever had, the staff were very friendly and the service we receieved was excellent.
We highly recommend this hotel.
Hard to beat location
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent stay
from A TripAdvisor MemberHere you are really in downtown with a variety of good restaurants and only 10 minites walk to MBK to do shopping. There is a nice Japanese restaurant at the 4-th floor too. Siam Discovery mall is next door to MBK.
Do not go home without seeing Wat Phra Kaew – the royal shrine and the home of the sacred Emerald Buddha. It adjoins the Grand Palace (though closed for restoration).

Great!
from sgorin79Great Location Novotel Siam Square
from Cappuccino_ecGreat Value Central Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberBangkok hotels are cheap by world standards anyhow, but this was excellent value for around $60 USD/night including full breakfast and taxes etc. I booked on-line through gothailand.com and had no probelms with the rate being honoured.
Previous reviews have commented on the renovations taking place and I think they are still going on as initially we were given rooms on the 7th floor for 1 night (until the connecting rooms we requested became available) and these were not quite as well presented as those we then had on the 18th (top) floor, but still not shabby and both large and comfortable.
The hotel is in the middle of Bangkok in Siam Square which has been described in other reviews. It is not an attractive area, but as much as I love Bangkok, I think it is fair to say that there are not many areas that you could describe as attractive in the CBD! We walked the area in both night and day though and felt completely safe. It is not a red light area.
The location is just a 5 minute walk to the Central Skytrain station which gives access to both lines and really is the most convenient way to get around the city - from the river in the south and west, to Chatuchak Market in the north (only 15 mins by the Skytrain). Despite what the guides say, you will find the weekend Chatuchak market open at least on Fridays also and much less crowded, though only about 30% of the stalls will be open.
Also handy to the hotel is the MBK department store (about a 10 minute walk) and a large cinema complex (though we didn't go there). I won't detail the sights and attractions of Bangkok as a guide book can do that, but I can recommend a day-trip to the Elephant and Crocodile Show near the Rose Gardens (our children loved it despite the summer heat). You can pat and feed baby elephants, go for an elephant ride (even the kids), watch elephant football and a mock war, and watch guys do things with crocodiles that would have Steve Irwin (the Crocodile Man) shaking in his boots.
A bit more on the hotel. The service is excellent and always with a smile. The tour desk has a large selection of activities that may be more expensive than some touts outside the hotels, but not by much. The breakfast may be "the same" each day, but the selection is great and - hey - it was free (so to speak). The internet photos of the pool do not do it justice as it is large and really quite nice and catches the sun most of the day. The salon does beauty treatments at a good rate and massage, not as cheap as outside, but still cheap as chips and you won't get propositioned (wives will like this!).
There is not much for the kids (no Kids Club or anything) but the pool is good as I have said and there is satellite TV with Cartoon Network etc. My kids also loved watching the Skytrain from our room windows (on the northern side of the hotel).
We booked a minivan to and from the airport in advance as we had a mountain of luggage. This cost 1500 Baht (about $40 USD each way) but metered taxis are plentiful and a fraction of this price so I would recommend this option to anyone.
This is our 3rd trip to Bangkok and we love it more each time we go. Sure it is hot and very crowded, but the whole atmosphere of the place is buzzing and exotic and we plan to head back again next year - most likely to stay at the Novotel again.
Standard hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe had a clean & comfortable renovated room. Bathroom was a little cramped and bath tub-shower drainage was poor. Street music can be heard from our room on the 13th floor. We were staying in a non smoking room but other guest can be seen smoking with their room doors open on the same floor. Hotel staff was present on the floor but they did not take any action.
The hotel has a nightclub in the basement which was quite good (if you could ignore "solicitation/seedy" side of it). It is not uncommon to see solicitation in the lobby. The dancing duet are a little on the tacky side.
Otherwise, the hotel is in a great location, close to shops & skytrain. Great porter service and bakery.
Top Local Tips for Bangkok
metered taxis On arrival Bangkok Airport follow signs to public taxi stand (ignore all the touts, one told me 1/2 hour wait for a public taxi). There is desk at the taxi stand, they will ask for your destination, then give this to the taxi drvier, they will give you another chit of paper with the taxi drivers name and taxi number, also the additional cost of the taxi airport tax and toll ways, which will be added onto the fare. Our fare to Novotel Siam Square was 320 baht or AUD10. Private transfer companies were quoting AUD80 return for 2 passengers.
Metered Taxis Do not take taxis that do not charge by the meter. If any driver quotes you 200 Baht for your trip, look for another one. Taxis that wait by the side of the road for tourists will try to charge you 200 Baht. Flag down one that is on the move. It is not difficult to flag down one. However, foreigners especially US or Europeans may encounter many drivers that try to charge 200 Baht.
Shopping heaven! Bangkok is really a shopping heaven! From markets to super-mega-malls, here they have them all! Remember: always bargain! Counterfeit and original items could have very low prices there! I'm talking of Diesel jeans for as low a 20 USD!!So, empty your baggage and prepare to shopping!!!
