Top Local Tips for Bangkok
TukTuks Just watch the Tuktuk drivers at night. Our husbands did a deal with them for a price - but they must of had a few "singas" (beers) becuse they were "flying" (going real fast). They will always give you a good price in the end when you barter but they will take you to a few place to shop along the way, as they are paid petrol vouchers for taking you there, so if your not in hurry this is a general thing they do. you dont HAVE to buy only look to help them acheive they vouchers, and at night get the older drivers if travelling in pairs because otherwise you could be in a a thrilling ride! Fun but scary nd fast
A lousy hotel close to the Skytrain and/or Subway is better than a great hotel. In Bangkok, getting around easily is everything. Traffic simply doesn't move. If your hotel is near the Skytrain you have freedom to get around and enyoy the city. So what if your hotel isn't that great? What good is a luxury hotel where you're trapped because you have to take cabs everywhere, and the shortest journey takes an hour or two?
Tuk Tuk, not taxi Bangkok is hot. Don't ride boring taxis, take a Tuk-Tuk every time and get some wind (and diesel fumes) in your hair. Divers are honest, cool and friendly. But, hey, have some fun when negotiating a price....don't chisel down to the last baht. Smile everytime, and Bangkok 's kings of the road will return your sentiment 10 times over. (PS: Its gotta happen one day, but I never yet saw a lady TT driver).
