Shopping in the Land of Knockoffs Do NOT disrespect the King and Queen. Do not admit to anyone on the street, including cab drivers that this is your first trip to Thailand. Foreigners attract friendly hustlers. Every tour and cabbie takes you to the Gem Gallery. It's overpriced. Cabbies want to take you shopping because they get kickbacks. Be polite and buy elsewhere. Not everything is a brand name knockoff but if it is not in a major department store it probably is. One sales clerk showed me Polo shirts but the horse looked drunk.

Transportation Getting around Bangkok is easy. Use Skytrain, every stop is located near a tourist attraction.

Demand the meter is on Whereas in other Thai places getting a tuk tuk will do the job, i strongly recommend against it in Bangkok because the taxi is a lot safer, more convenient, has airconditioning and is ridiculously cheaper than what the tuk tuk drivers charge. Some taxi drivers try to avoid putting the meter on and will propose a fee BUT they are obliged to use it. In one case we had several offers for 150 Baht for a certain route while the value was only 65 Baht.
