Some Good, Some Bad
from TravelbugOct2006Now for the negatives, it was our first visit to Bangkok so im not sure of the standard of other hotels within its price range,(as it is very cheap) but the room was very tired, the sheets were torn, and the bathroom suite anything but modern, the hotel door was a bit filmsy but did have a chain on it (always put the chain on when your in the room).
The hotel is located in Sukhumvit - which is beside the Skytrain, which is the best way to travel round (as traffic is worse than a nightmare), you can get to Siam shopping centre. Plus the hotel is beside a nice shopping centre (use the internet here much cheaper than hotel) with a good food court! The only thing about the location of the hotel is its a bit out of the way of all the action, although taxis are very cheap you will spend forever getting there!
If you are looking for a different location, i have heard that Banglamphu is very good, anywhere near Ko San Road!
Fantastic Hotel if you pay the little extra
from muckymaccaWe e-mailed the hotel before leaving the UK and got excellent communications from the courteous staff. They offered an upgrade to a suite for $80US and then gave a free upgrade to a corner suite which had fantastic views over Bangkok.
The Thai people in general could not do enough for us and we must recommend a trip to the Golden Palace and on the Rice Barge through Destination Asia and for a top notch suit, you must go to Jimmy's - its busy and will blow you away but go for it!
Finally - I know you supposed to see as much of the city as you can but we must recommend the Chinese Restaurant in the hotel, the Peking Duck cooked in Garlic was well worth paying the extra and staying in
Quite impressive
from jeedabkkIt is an above average facilities than other 3 star hotels, especially comparing to the prices. The staffs are professional and friendly. The room was good, clean and big although we stayed at standard room. We'd definitely come back to this hotel again!
Good 3 Star Hotel
from Magpies1Bit of a let down
from A TripAdvisor MemberOn the positive side, the hotel does have a wonderful location on Benjasiri Park near the Emporium shopping centre and really close to the MRT. Unfortunately the main entrance is on a safe but rather seedy street so it’s best to use the side entrance through the park.
What an experience
from DennisWestWickhamOld Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberMy bathroom's shower head was broken but i managed to fix it using a coin. If you're planning to roam around the city, this hotel isnt the right choice. Just a bit far from Shopping Malls/ Train station.
Crowded Queens
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt was a coming in and coming out whole day.
Breakfast was poor. Staff could not hold on and food was always in a shortage.
Poor Customer Relations
from A TripAdvisor MemberAlways good
from DanielTrationThrough the back door of the hotel (through the buffet restaurant) is The Queens park a quick walk across the park and you are at the Sky Train station. At peek times DO NOT use any other type of transport. Although you may only have to travel a short way during peek hours the directions of the roads change and you will be stuck in a taxi for hours. The Sky Train is affordable and like an air-conditioned oasis in the sky. At night after 8ish get a taxi but make sure you get a taxi meter and get it from the hotel (have small change).
Top Local Tips for Bangkok
No small change excuse Bring your small notes of 20, 10 and 5 Baht. One of taxi drivers we met didn't have change. We had to pay him 100 Baht instead of 42 Baht.
Traffic Just be warned that the traffic in Bangkok is HORRENDOUS. We did the morning temple tour and it took 2 hrs. just to get back to our hotel (which was in the centre). Probably the best way to travel is by train - very efficient - but a word of warning. The kiosks are there in the stations to give you change, not tickets; you get the tickets from a machine. Very clear instructions and if we can work it out, the anyone can. A very nice young security man (they are everywhere in Bangkok - feel v. safe) showed us how to do it. But to get around - great!
A place to shop Along with its attractive night life Bangkok is good place to shop, especially for those who want to enjoy their stay. The city is reasonable insofar as acoomodation is concern, food cost , etc a realvalue for money.
