Booked the hotel - it looks and I have good reviews from my collegues - but when I called USA customer service to arrange a private car pick-up at the airport so I could get to the hotel - in advance of my stay - they said they could not and said to make Intl LD call to hotel to try - no other assistance - cancelled and stayed at Sheraton Grande...

Great hotel and easy to get to central Bangkok

from LiveLife
This is an excellent hotel. I stayed in 5 different hotels while i was in Thailand and this was the last one i stayed at and was one of my favourites. Personally i think that it is the equivalent to a 5 star hotel in England!!

We originally had a riverside twin room but as soon as we got there, they upgraded us to a junior suite for no apparent reason! They gave us a welcome drink which was lovely followed with some ice cold flannels. Our rooms were really pretty although the view wasn't great. We had two double beds which was great!

The food selection is fantastic (buffet - a la carte) and they have absolutely everything from exotic fruits, bacon and eggs and croissants to fried rice and soup. The staff were extremely friendly and made the experience even better. I would highly recommend this hotel if staying in Bangkok

Perfect Tranquillity

from hamandeggs
We stayed here 20/21st March,2005. Upgraded us to Junior suite from river view room as it was our 'lucky day'. Found a glass of Coke (still bubbling)and can on table in suite with cigarette ash on top, used as ash tray. Found extinguished cigarette in bathroom. Complained to reception, but she was not too bothered about dealing with the complaint. I guess she felt we should still be feeling 'lucky'. Said she would pass it on. Then tried to charge us for the Coke at checkout. Eating at the restaurant near the hotel jetty, the food has to come from the nearby Market Restaurant, and could be hotter. Staff did get in wrong on the 2 nights we dined there. Delivered starters and main courses all at the same time. Next night forgot the French Fries.

However,!!!, top class position 'out of town' with its own free barge to the Taksin Bridge where the Skytrain starts. Superb position and would, despite the above, recommend it any time. Our first choice for price should we find ourselves in Bankok again. Quite heavenly.

Great vacation hotel....

from TheEvertonian
We stayed here for 4 nights in early March, and I can't praise it enough as a base for staying in Bangkok on vacation. If you're on business, however, it might be a little too remote.

The rooms, service and facilities within the hotel were first class. The gardens and pool area are beautiful, and the afternoon happy hour at the swim-up bar was great. The whole atmosphere was one of peace and tranquilty.

My only gripe would be with the cost of a poolside massage. The ladies were sitting around most of the time, as the price of 1800 baht, in proportion to everything else, seemed way too high, and they had few takers. I'm sure a reduction in prices would see a big increase in business.

The hour-long Sunset Cruise on a rice barge was most relaxing, and highly recommended.

There are numerous bars and restaurants in the hotel, and the adjoining shopping centre has even more, including a KFC and McDonalds, for those who indulge.

I've stayed at some good hotels in Bangkok, including the Shangri-La, JW Marriott and Royal Orchid Sheraton, but this was easily most enjoyable.

Fabulous hotel

After extensive research, decided upon the Marriott Resort & Spa. Really pleased with our choice as superb hotel with lovely tropical gardens. Had one of the best meals ever in their restaurant overlooking the river - so much to choose from and absolutely delicious. The courtesy boat journey to and from the main skytrain terminal took about 15 minutes and it run every 15 minutes, finishing at midnight. It was a pleasant ride, extremely well run and always on time! It made getting around Bangkok very easy. Had a lovely room with side river view, (though probably not the best view as overlooked by big bridge!) so would in future request a room either overlooking the pool towards river, or at the front of the building. Pool and jacuzzi stayed open till late, so nice to have an evening swim after a hard day in the City! Did a dinner cruise on their converted rice barge which made an excellent evening out, cruising along the river past the main temples all lit up. Food and service very good. Highly recommended. We could have quite happily stayed for a few more nights here and would definitely stay here again next time we visit Bangkok.

The Marriott Hotel made our stay in Bangkok

This gem of a resort hotel is on the river, just down from the Peninsula Hotel and across the river from the Orient.

The rooms were marvelous. Big comfortable beds, wood floors, nice bath, and I cant tell you how service oriented and friendly the whole staff at this hotel was.

Probably the most comprehensive breakfast buffet one could imagine.

Nice pool and spa.

We hated to leave the hotel.

Free boat ride to tram to take you to other places.
Small shopping center near by.

Dont miss this gem

Lovely Place - Great Value

from Laurski
We stayed at this hotel in the Fall, 2003. It was an excellent experience.

The rooms were new and lovely. The included breakfast was excellent.

The concierge service was consistently great. We also loved the quiet comfortable pool.

The only draw back is the hotel is somewhat out of the main action of Bangkok. However, this is what makes the place so quiet and relaxing.

We are returning to Bangkok this Spring and will likely stay here again.

Fantastic hide-away

from LittleBritain
Luxury hotel away from the hustle of Bangkok. Rooms are large and beautifully maintained. We had a great river view. Pool is great with swim up bar - just what is needed after 12 hr flight from London! But the best thing is the river transfer into the city - fascinating to see the river life. Boat drops you at Taksin Pier where you can switch to the Sky Train or jump on the boat for another hotel [Peninsular or ShangriLa] and go an nose around other 5* hotels. Probably ideal for those who have 'done' Bangkok before [like we have - 6 visits] who do not want to be in the midst of things. Recommended!!!

Made me a Marriott Fan

from A TripAdvisor Member
This Hotel is a 5 out of 5, and very good value for the money. I hesitate to review it like this because I am afraid not to get a room because it is full next time. In a country where boutique Hotels are become the rage, I find that Mr. Marriott has created a Boutique Hotel, without boutique prices, with all modern amenities, at a reasonable price.

The rooms are in a very tatseful traditional Thai style, yet with all the modern conveiniences. The bathroom was immaculate. Can you imagine wanting to take a bath in a Bangkok Hotel room? There's free shuttle service across the river to connect you to the sky train and other local water shuttles. Enjoy the ice cold wash cloths and the ice water on the ride home after, a very welcomed small touch.

The room service is so good you'll have trouble dragging yourself out to theor beautiful restaurants. Why bother when you can enjoy the view out of your room?

Beds are large clean and firm. Cable TV. OK one thing. I wish they had free wireless LAN service, which is becoming common place in the US. I gladly paid the price for the wired high speed access in my room however.

The hotel is superbly managed. I had some small problems which were personally attended to by the Hotel Management. When I complained, the Manager called, and the task was not delelgated.

Again. 5 out of 5. I wish I lived here.

Stayed at the Bangkok Marriott Resort and Spa for 5 nights early December '04. This is the best hotel we've ever stayed in. Our deluxe river view room was lovely, very clean and comfortable, and it's well worth the extra money to stay in one. If you can manage getting up early (6am) the sunrise views are to die for! We stayed on a room only basis, and ordered a small breakfast from room service each day, and we sat and ate this by the table next to the window, it was lovely, and not too expensive compared to the full breakfast prices. The pool is fantastic, don't miss the guy with the gong announcing happy hour at 4pm! The shuttle boat service was excellent, very reliable, and the cold towels and bottled water are very welcome on the journey back! The Manhora dinner cruise is excellent also, we went on this to celebrate our wedding anniversary. 6 courses of authentic Thai food whilst cruising down the river at night on a converted rice barge looking at the scenery, fantastic. There is a small shopping mall directly opposite the hotel, if you want a nice thai meal go to the restaurant on the ground floor, to the left of the complex, can't remember the name but is very cheap, we paid £7.50 per person for a full meal and drinks. I could go on and on.... the only negative thing I would say about this hotel are the prices in the main restaurant, for drinks (though the cocktails are yummy) and the spa. But usual thing at hotels I guess - get out and about and you'll get much better value for money for these things!

Best than most, not the best

from frozensky
They didn't have a room for us when we planned to check in. But they treated us dinner and upgraded us to a penthouse, so I can't complaint about that. The room was very high-tech. We had 2 bathrooms for 2 people, a dinner room, and a living room. The reason we decided to stay here was because we went on their 3-day Manohra Cruise. I highly recommend the cruise. They only take 4 couples at a time with 3 people on board serving you. It was a royal experience.

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Great NIght Market The Su Lum night market at Lumpini is fantastic and there are plenty of bars and restaurants around the edge of the market. Bartering is a must and great fun!

river transport use the river to get around Bangkok, very easy to the major sites, fun, and a cooling breeze.

Don't miss the weekend market Great items, great prices, huge. Get to experience the entire city from the sky train. Drink plenty of water and carry a damp cloth to cool yourself- it can be hot and crowded.
