Historical Traveller Reviews of Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok Hotel

Excellent choice when staying in Bangkok

from KristjanS
We stayed at the Hyatt Erawan on 3 different dates in september/october, after having travelled around Thailand, and I can honestly say we weren't disappointed. When walking through the entrance into the lobby with it's soaring atrium and pleasant ambience, your struck by the grandeur of the place.
We stayed in a Club King room, so I don't know what standard hotel rooms were like, but no complaints in that department. well equipped, reasonable size, nice bathrooms, although shower areas do need refurbishing. Bathrooms were clean and of a good size, but in the one room we stayed in, there was mildew or residue around the glass walls of the shower cabinet. The Club floor itself was very elegantly decorated; huge lobby which functioned as a dining area for breakfast/cocktails in the evening.
We've stayed at a number of Hyatt hotels throughout Asia, but the choice presented in the cocktail buffet was unrivalled. Free drinks and food from 17:30-19:30 every evening. Extremely helpful and attentive staff, especially one receptionist, whose name I sadly can't remember. Came on an early flight from Europe, arriving at the hotel at about 09:00. Room was ready for us to check in when we got there. Even better was the fact that even though we left on a late flight (after midnight) and normal check out time was 12:00, we were allowed to keep the room free of charge until 18:00, and then sit in the lobby and partake of the cocktail hour until we left the hotel. Now that's what I call service.
The location of the hotel is unbeatable, with a five minute walk to the Skytrain station nearby, and plenty of shops to satisfy those with a black belt in shopping. Excellent amenities at the hotel; a very good restaurant in the basement "Spasso's", with reasonably priced food, and more surprisingly a decent house band! There's also a bakery, chinese restaurant and a more informal dining option, You & Mee noodle restaurant, as well as the usual hotel features; gift shop, conference facilities, spa and fitness centre, etc.
All in all an extremely pleasurable stay, definitely one of the best hotels I've stayed in and one that I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Why Oh why would any one stay here?

This hotel is not actually bad by any means but it can certainly not be said that it is good: in fact it is simply mediochre. In a city full of so many great hotels it seems strange that such a hotel as this can survive when it is charging just £20 less than the likes of the Oriental and the Peninsula. The hotel is done on a grand scale and has one of the largest lobbies I have ever seen, but this is at the expense of the finer details that actually make the hotel. Grey Tartan lines the corridoors and public spaces and there is an abundance of cheap pine, giving the hotel a feel of a travel lodge on the side of a motorway. The rooms themselves are comfortable but again, lack the right design. The main plus point of the hotel is the swimming pool which is set amidst a sharming spa garden, something that one appreciates when in the centre of such a metropolis. It just seems strange that for a similar price you could stay in one of the most fabulous hotels in the world in a far superior location. There's simply no point staying here.

Grand hotel but average service

from DCChris
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Erawan at the end of our 17 day vacation in Thailand and were the least impressed with this place out of the 4 hotels that we stayed in. The hotel itself is beautiful and very conveniently located which is why we chose it. We also paid to have executive level privileges. The happy hour on the club level was fantastic, but breakfast was bland. We chose to pay extra and have the full breakfast downstairs but the spread was not as good as we had experienced at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. Service across the board was a little slow and somewhat aloof. It certainly wasn't as warm and welcoming as we had come to expect. The lobby area was always loud and crowded with large groups, so we would recommend it for the business traveler or for tour groups but probably not for the type that just wants to relax and take it easy. Spa services were quite good although on the expensive side for Thailand.

Would reccomend to anyone...

From the airport transfer to the turndown service, this hotel is fabulous. The location is great, but that is secondary to the wonderful and genuine service that we received during our two night stay. Bellmen were fabulous as where the restaurant staff. The quality of food and beverage (particularly the dinner buffet in Dining Room) is of a very high standard, rare in many hotels today. The rooms are a good size, great Thai decor and marble bath also. You must visit the spa. My husband and I had a hour massage in couples villa - amazing. The best massage we have ever had (just spent a week at a spa in Phuket - nothing in comparison).

One small negative, we booked in a particular web package. It included spa, dinner (which we discovered was actually the 'lunch'' menu in the tearoom - not what we expected). Although we confirmed with restaurant and spa prior to leaving for vacation, there seems to be a lack of communication or knowledge of this package. Over 5 times we found ourselves having to reexplain to basically all staff concerned, including management, the type of package we booked and what it consisted of. - Prehaps it was a new package?

But for two travellers hard to impress, we will be back next year and would not stay anywhere else in Bangkok.

One of the best in Bangkok

from reli01
I thought I must put my recent experience while staying at this top of the line hotel in record. First of all, I think it is underrated by Tripadvisor for whatever reason. I have stayed at various hotels in Bangkok, e.g., Four Seasons, Dusit, Marriott Resort & Spa, etc. but this one stands out. The location is absolutely unparallel. Shopping, Skytrain, local attractions, etc. easily accessible. The service is exemplary right from the word go. I stayed on the Club Floor where the lounge was with fantastic view and the waiters there were ever ready to serve drinks, short eats, etc. Evening snacks in the lounge with nice fine wine were another plus point. Breakfast spread on the ground floor coffee shop was one of the best in Bangkok. The rooms are very spacious sans carpet with ensuite bathrtoom having separate shower cubicle. Toiletries are Hyatt branded but of high quality. The SPA facility is extraordinary. Overall, a very very friendly hotel where the guests are pampered and respected the most compared to other hotels where I stayed earlier at Bangkok. It must be brought up to one of the top ten in popularity, my persoanl assessment.

Good place to stay

We stayed 1 night at Hyatt Bangkok. Very nice hotel, good service and nice pool area and health club. Just a place to stay in Bangkok.

Loved the hotel more than this bland district of the city

from Navigator10
This is the third of the four luxury hotels that I stayed at in Bangkok late last March.

This hotel is located in the busiest part of town. Large shopping complexes are in the area. If youn't plan on shopping, don't stay here. Too much traffic and the pedestrian walkways over the streets are packed... with sidewalk vendors adding to the problem.

This hotel is an institution. The kind of place where rich locals want to hold a wedding. I witnessed a large Indian wedding one evening.

The rooms are what you expect for a First Class or Luxury Class hotel. Clean and quiet. Good size. Separate shower.
During the first night, I was located on the 8th floor looking straight accross at the roof of a large parking ramp with a few homes on the top level. Not much of a view. The next morning I requested a room higher up and I was immediately given a room on the 20th. floor. A bellman was sent up five minutes later to help move my stuff. That's great service.

Great hotel in center of shopping district

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at this hotel 10 times. It is in a great area particularly for shopping and walking around. The new spa, pool, gym are excellent. Food is very good and there is a very nice club floor here as well.

Amazing hotel. Great Location. Great Rooms. Great Service

from bembridge
I was surprised, and a bit concerned, on seeing that there had been some neutral reviews about this hotel as I have stayed here a few times over the past years - and had always found it be be a great place with great and typical Bangkok excellent service.

Therefore, I was pleased to find that this was the case. The hotel is looking good, it seems there has been some renovations and the rooms are trendy and great beds, bathrooms and overall design.

I was lucky enough to have been upgraded to a suite, and have posted pictures, which was quite stunning. On the 16th floor with lovely views across the race course. I also though checked out the room of a work mate who was also at the hotel, and this was of the same design and very good.

On the 17th floor for those people in the club access they have a quite stunning club room for breakfast and evening canapes/ drinks. This is very tastefully designed with great views (also across the racecourse).

The hotel meeting area called "The Residence" (pictures also posted) is just stunning and a great place to hold a meeting in quite special surroundings.

This is a hotel I look forward to staying here again!

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Sunday Market See the real Thai shopping at the massive Sunday market or the Night market nearby.

Dinner and drinks.... Although Spassos is loaded with ladies of the evening, Eat outside of the Hotel at Giannis Italian Restaurant. Executive floor totally uninspiring.

Sky Train Use the Sky Train to get around...its easy, simple, safe, cheep and fast.
