Top Local Tips for Bangkok

get your hotel's card The most comfortable way to get around Bangkok is in the a/c cabs, but because many of the drivers don't speak good English (assuming your Thai isn't up to much, mine isn't!) & seem not even to know Bangkok that well (!) it's essential to get a card from your hotel or guest house with a map on it, preferably with street names in Thai as well as English. Also, if you have to get to some random location (visiting someone, airline office etc.) get a friendly Thai person to write down the address and/or directions in Thai to give to the cab driver... This stuff could save a lot of time!

Be Polite But Firm With Touts Taxi touts pester you like no other touts. Only get in official taxis, and be firm and polite to all others, when declining thier services
