Fantastic in every way

The Banyan Tree Bangkok was an oasis in the city. The tranquil rooms offered mesmerizing views of the metropolis below. The attention to detail in the design of the rooms did not go un-noticed. We stayed in a Club Level suite and as a result we had a superb breakfast which was included in the room rate. Also, not to be forgotten is the roof top bar and restaurant, great food and great service. A note to anyone travelling to Bangkok, I would recommend getting your hotel in the area that you intend to spend most of your time as traffic can be very consuming.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Banyan Tree Bangkok Hotel

A World Class Hotel

from jwilliamsuk
This is an excellent, world-class hotel, and the best I have stayed in to date. I booked a Club Suite for four nights under their 60 day advanced booking rate which was excellent value for money. The lobby was cool, tranquil and atmospheric and a great place to sit and unwind after a long journey. The suite was a good size with luxurious furnishings and finishes. The only thing missing was a CD/DVD player. The service at the hotel was exceptional with lots of great touches (daily gifts, welcome drink, and a host of complimentary services including free drinks and buffet in the Club Lounge). The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. When our booking fell through at another hotel later on in our stay, the hotel were also extremely helpful in accomodating us at short notice and at our original discount rate too! The views of Bangkok are breathtaking - request a city view for one of the best panoramas of Bangkok (although the view south to the river is also nice). Do not miss a jacuzzi or a swim in the dip pool 51 stories up in the hotel's skydeck (the archway near the top of the building). The rooftop restaurant Vertigo is also one of the most romantic spots to dine in the city, although the amazing views, service and cooling breeze are reflected in the menu prices. The only things I can fault the hotel on are the breakfast (good, but not as excellent as everything else) and the traffic on Sathorn Road, which like some other areas of Bangkok gets gridlocked during the early morning and afternoon/evening rush hour. However it's only a 10min walk to the sky train station at the other end of Soi Sala Daeng on Silom Road. I cannot recommend a stay at this hotel highly enough. It's a great place to relax and feel pampered, whilst being far better value for money than some other 5* hotels in the city.

I notice most reviewers give it high marks, which is deserved. One of the nicest hotels I have visited. I found a suite online for $150 per night after some searching. They will ask you if you want to upgrade to THE CLUB, and will ask for $75 per couple for each day. You can negotiate them down to $60 per couple. Do it! I drank $60 in champagne each day before noon. Great deal, and you also get free food, an awesome lounge, and a private pool and hot tub with the Club upgrade. Service is great, but I found the service everywhere to be great. Thai people are the best!

Absolutely Magnificent!

from PerpetualTraveller
This would have to be one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The service was faultless, due in some part to the wonderful nature of the Thai people. The deluxe view suite on the 43rd floor was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. We loved the daily incense stick and oil burner and the new daily aromas. One small touch that made the stay a very warm one was the daily news summary in an envelope put under the room door each morning tailored to each guest's home country.

The buffet breakfast spread made for a very good start to each day. We also dined at Saffron restaurant on the 59th floor with panoramic views of Bangkok - the food was devine!

While the hotel was not located right on the doorstep of the countless shops in Bangkok, it was only a 10 minute walk from the Sala Daeng skytrain station and 5 minutes from Lumphini Metro station and the night markets.

We cannot fault this hotel at all and will definately recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to Bangkok. We look very forward to staying at the Banyan Treet Bangkok again next time we are in town.

Luxurious Banyan Tree

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at this luxurious hotel for 5 nights in March 2005 and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The only downside could possibly be the location however this did not pose a problem to us since the new metro train station was only a 5 minute walk away. The metro and skytrain was our main mode of transport around Bangkok which is efficient and incredibly cheap.
As soon as we arrived we were given our room key (sorry Suite) in a matter of minutes. We chose to stay in the deluxe suite which was on the 40th floor. I can't imagine what the higher end suites are like as this one had everything we could need and more. The view from our room especially at night of Bangkok was wonderful so much so we didn't want to draw the curtains.
On the first night we ordered room service and were amazed when the food came complete with table. The food was delicious and warm and well presented.
One night we tried the Vertigo restaurant which we had heard so much about, the food was okay but certainly not for the price we paid. We paid approx £80 for 2, thats with no drinks (room service was less than half that price and the food was better). The view was very good but you'd have been cheaper going to the Moon Bar.
We had breakfast at Rom Sai every morning which was a beautiful setting and the buffet was very extensive, and the service was brilliant.
My husband brought his laptap with him which had a wireless facility to access the internet while we were there. We had some difficulty getting it to work but the ROM service person was helpful and we managed to get it working.
All in all I think this was a wonderful hotel especially good for business people and young couples, the location isn't a problem due to new local metro station, and it was nice to stay away from the real hustle and bustle of Bangkok after a day's sight seeing. If you can afford it try the spa or the insuite bathroom menu.

Thumbs Up

from BrizvegasMatt
My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Banyan Tree Bangkok in late February 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is exactly what is required in Bangkok - it is a calm and relaxing influence in the middle of a high speed city. The rooms are beginning to date a little in terms of the fixtures, but overall the staff and service more than make up for any small shortcomings in the rooms.

I would recommend upgrading to the Club floor - for relatively little additional cost you can be spoilt rotten. I would also confirm the earlier recommendations regarding Vertigo. The location and view is simply amazing, but for the dollars the food leaves a little to be desired. Enjoy the same view over a cocktail at the Moon Bar instead.

And if you have a few extra dollars to spare, you will never forget a treatment in the spa. Prices for a couple of ours range from $150 US per person, but it is worth it!

Fabulous Banyan

from californian
Stayed here from feb 9th thru feb 14th.Lovely hotel with exceptional service and a so so buffet breakfast.Since we arrived at 4 AM they charged us an extra $150.00 to move into our room, this eventhough the package i bought was for 6 days and 5 nights. This was the only disappointment . We were booked at the premiere room, but they upgraded to Club room but with only premiere benefits.I requested the management to wave the $150 but they would not budge.

roof top bar gives best view of bangkok

from jim41752
just to correct the previous reviewer: the banyan tree is nowhere near sukhumvit. it is on sathorn road, near the silom area. sukhumvit is far away, although from the awe inspiring roof top bar, you can see sukhumvit in the distance. that roof top bar--the vertigo--is a must see on everyone's bangkomk agenda. open only at night. best views of Bangkok at night.

Stunning hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the Banyan Tree for 2 nights. As soon as we entered the hotel, we knew we had made an excellent choice. The hotel was absolutely stunning and the staff were friendly and helpful. When we entered the hotel our cases were taken for us we were given flower garlands and shown to reception. When we checked in we were upgraded to a premier suite at no charge, which was a lovely gesture. We were then shown to the lobby lounge where we were given refreshing drinks before being shown to our room.

Our room was amazing - it had a nice relaxing lounge/business area, sliding doors to the bedroom which had a big double bed decorated with orchids and full windows with spectacular views of Bangkok, and then a beautiful marble bathroom with a shower at one side, and a deep bath at the other.

I ordered a relaxing bath during my stay and would highly recommend it if you want to unwind after a days sightseeing in Bangkok. There were rose petals covering all of the surface of the bath with 4 big waterlilies and it smelled fantastic. There were little candles round the bath and there was a small table assembled beside the bath with chocolates and 2 club cocktails. They also decorated the bedroom with petals and candles and gave us rose incense cones as a gift.

The breakfasts at Rom Sai were really good. We also had dinner at Rom Sai one evening, I went for the buffet option and the choices were endless. Everything I tried was really nice.

All in all a great stay, the best hotel I have stayed in in my life. I cannot imagine more luxury.

High above Sukhumvit

from jose.ling
This is a well located five* hotel with superb service. I stayed in a spacious Club Room which are located on several club floors and which give access to the Banyan Club Lounge. In this cosy room on the 53rd floor magnificent views on the city are offered along free drinks and snacks.

However, this does come at a price, I payed a hefty USD 224 per night.

Try to stay here one or three days then move to a more affordable hotel such as JW Marriott, Marriott riverside, or try a Junior Suite at the Davis hotel.

excellent hotel!

from neversummer
I stayed here jan 2004 and upgraded from the deluxe suite to some VIP package that gave us usage to the upper level spa, place our room to the higher floors, free massages, VIP pool and jaccuzi. Very nice rooms, and facilities. Fruits and chocolates are replenished everyday at our beds and the basket in the living area. The vertigo bar is awesome sight. The beds are very cozy and the bathroom very spacious and clean. I love this hotel. It is in a good location also. just walking distance to this market. The lobby staff is very helpful and polite. Definitely a classy hotel i'd love to stay in again.

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Water Taxi If you are interested in the public water taxi instead of the more expensive(approximately 1500B) personal water taxi you will need to know exactly what you are asking for and be able to relay that to the taxi driver. We attempted and thought we were clear about what we wanted but still ended up at with a person water taxi. It is a quick ride up the river to The Grand Palace and Wat Pho if that is what you are wanting. Ours made one stop also at the Wat Arun but she only gave us 15 minutes to see that site(which is comical). Bring lots of small money with you as you have to pay each time you get off on a dock as well. Also do not trust anyone who comes up to you at The Grand Palace and acts like they are working there. They are only trying to get you to another destination on one of their friends Tuk Tuk's.

Transport from the airport Don't be duped into taking a 'private' taxi. We arrived early in the morning and were 'led' to a waiting taxi and were able to barter a reduction, but the driver didn't know where the hotel was and couldn't read the address. On the return to the airport we took a metered taxi which worked out at about a third of the price!

A dinner cruise in Bangkok We had a guide book so we called to book our dinner cruise directly. The employee on the phone was working double-duty and instead tried to book us with some cruise that was not the one we wanted, saying the cruise we wanted was booked and they would send a driver to pick us up at the hotel for the earlier cruise. We told the concierge, Mr Eak, at the Banyan Tree about this arrangement and he said it was fishy, he called and reserved us for the cruise we wanted. When the bogus cruise guy came to get us at the hotel, he scared them away. BEWARE of scams, ask the concierge for help with bookings!
