MOLD and BUG infested

If I can, I would put Negative Stars.

Stay here if you wish to live with bugs, roaches and breath in mold. My family and I got so sick. Our entire vacation consisted of vomiting and sleepless nights. Even the manager went to room and confirm the terrible stench coming from the mold. After many complaints we changed 3 rooms in our 4 nights stay. But all the rooms, including the deluxe rooms are in such horrible condition. There are much better hotels in much better locations. I have stayed in some terrible places before even places in the middle of no where of Kazakhstan and Urumchi. But this is the worse.

BE WARNED! DO NOT STAY HERE FOR YOUR HEALTH'S SAKE!

Price without robbery is good, location to sky train good, rooms unsafe. Do not stay at Asia Hotel Bangkok (296 Phaya Thai Road)! Someone with a hotel key came into our room during a 3 hour absence and removed all of our valuables. They left the camera and video case so that we would not notice that we had been robbed (I'm assuming they didn't want to be caught with the merchandise with them at work). We reported it as soon as we figured it out the next morning. The security manager just walked me to the key counter and left, I had to ask for a manager, then he came back and we asked for the police they played dumb, but we didn't give up finally they say "you'll have to pay the taxi ride there and back", we said no problem. Now it gets shadier because the security manager and the translation guy are talking in Thai, my husband wrote up the information and the translator translated it to Thai then the police rewrite it, come to find out they added a sentence saying we were not pursing an investigation! So not true and we only found out when a friend had a Thai lawyer look at it. We had to push them every step of the way to investigate it! It was a waste of our time and energy because they don't care and I would suspect they are a few employees involved in this ring of thieves.

Large Hotel with Friendly Staff

My husband and I stayed at the Asia Hotel for 6 days a few years ago. The neighborhood is very interesting but it is not close to the major tourists sites. However, everything is easy to get to by either taking the local busses (crowded), a regular taxi or a tuk-tuk. The restaurants serve good food and there was a non-smoking section in the lobby floor restaurant. The room we had was clean, furnished nicely and had a view of the swimming pool. There were very friendly staff who helped us plan fun things to do, including a visit to the floating markets and a dinner and Thai dance show performance. The outdoor food markets are interesting and plentiful. Yes, it was very hot and lots of car exaust, but there is so much to see and do which helps you overlook it all. Once inside this hotel, though, you can relax, enjoy the surroundings--even go shopping in their shops. They have lovely jewelry for sale, for example. We rate this hotel an 8. Its better for the mature traveller than back packers, budget conscious or adverturesome types.

We had two stays at the Asia on our recent trip in October to Thailand. One on the 11floor and on 7thfloor both non smoking. Both rooms looked out to the river over bangkoks suburban sprawl. Both rooms had single beds pushed together although we had booked for a double bed the room on the 12floor was clean although tired but the room on the 7thfloor was grubby and bathroom had mould. I believe the rooms on the higher floors are being refurbished so you might try one of those.
The staff were very helpful, the location is fantastic having been to bangkok before we found getting around by taxi difficult having the skytrain at your doorstep very convenient. We caught it everywhere especially to Sapan Taskin to get the tourist boat which stops at grand palace, chinatown, wat pho etc and is a lovely way to see the sites and to Siam for shopping and Sukkamvit for restaurants.
Breakfast is good but could improve if they cleaned the tables and changed the linen between diners.
Excellent value for money.

Great location

A very busy hotel but well run and efficient. Our room was a good size, quiet with comfortable beds. The included breakfast is excellent with a good choice of food.
Wonderful location for those wishing to get around Bangkok on the Skytrain as the hotel has a direct link.

Value for Money

There were 6 of us who had the pleasure of staying at the Asia Hotel for 2 weeks. We had read a couple of reviews that were not so endearing, so we were a little concerned. All the staff, from Reception to the House Maids were very friendly and helpful. The 2 "lift" ladies were cheery and obliging (as were the gentlemen). We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, of which there was quality, quantity and variety. Admittedly the hotel looks a little tired, however, refurbishment is taking place. When there was global unrest in Bali again, the Hotel had Police presence for a couple of days. At no stage was guest's safety/security compromised. On arrival, we requested that the mini-bars be emptied before accepting the rooms. This was done swiftly. Also to minimise financial problems, we choose not to use credit cards but place a cash deposit with Reception. This practice seems to be quite acceptable. Overall, we can highly recommend the Asia Hotel for "value for money" and location.

Under-rated

I'm not sure as to why the earlier reviews were poor with regards to this hotel, but my stay with 2 other friends was in overall, a pleasant experience. No doubt that the hotel is in need of some upgrading to its facilities, but for the affordable room rate, one shouldn't be expecting 5 star but equally competent service and facilities.
The staff at check-in were polite and efficient, the room was very clean and housekeeping was very prompt in response when we had problems with the shower and when we requested for extra towels.
The best part about staying at this hotel is the direct link to the Ratchathewi BTS skytrain station, which is just 1 stop from Siam interchange station, where all the shopping and entertainment is.
I highly recommend this hotel to people who're more interested in the convenience (ie. soaking up the sights and flavours of the city) and view the hotel room as merely a place for spending a good night's rest.

Oh ! We did a lot of research thru internet about Asia Hotel and we r well prepared for its old deco! Who cares about the old deco as we only need a decent sleep at night ! Me and my wife Julie really fell in love with this cheap hotel ! The staffs are very friendly ! Especially the lady who stand beside the lifts and salute every single guest ! The plus point for the hotel will be its link to the skytrian station Ratchadewee. Very very convenient ! Can avoid the hot sun and rains !! We literally went to Chatuchat wkend market, Patpong, MBK centre, Siam Square with the skytrain !!!!
The breakfast is very nice ! The make-up room staff is very prompt to your request ! No tips were given to the staff as they never ask us ! (May be they knew Singaporean guests are very stingy??? Ha ha ha !!! - One thing is they are really helpful!!!)

I'm going back again in July ! Don't b jealous ! I'm going to stay there for 4D3N !!! Eating all the good Thai foods and visiting some of the wonderful places in Bangkok !!!

Don't believe those who put up bad remarks about Asia Hotel as this hotel really value for $ and indeed it managed to pull me back to stay again is a sign of a good hotel !!!!!!

Just stay there and u will experience the different !
Hey ! They also got the most famous 'Agua'(Singaporean term) Transexual Show, named Calypso !! The best in Bangkok !!!!

excellent location

we paid $33 a night to stay here, which also included breakfast. the hotel connects directly to the skytrain, which gives fast comfortable easy access to the rest of bangkok in minutes. though far from the old city where the major sites are, you can cab it there for less then two us dollars one way. the staff was helpful and friendly. we also ordered suits from jacks on the second level for 85 a suit, 24hr turn around. overall i would highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at the hotel Asia in April 2005 for six nights. It was one of the worst hotels I have ever stay in. My room smelled of a toilet. I got stuck in their elevator for 40 minutes. The staff were generally rude. When I went home I thought I had escaped the Hotel Asia. However, they over charged me by seven nights! It took me three weeks of calls to them and my credit card company to get the charges removed. They charged my credit card on four separate occations .... three of them before I had even checked in. When I called to complain the manager said they had no record of charging my card at all. Totally incompetant or fraudulent ... not sure which. Avoid this hell hole!

Good Value Safe Hotel

This was our first visit to Bangkok (two blonde women) and we were a bit concerned when we saw the smog and pollution and poverty of Bangkok as we drove through to the hotel. We were relieved beyond belief to see a decent looking hotel with staff and porters! It turned out to be fine - not palatial but good value for money. The room was clean and served its purpose if the air conditioning was a bit cold (you can adjust it). The staff were friendly and efficient if a bit cool at the desk. The food was good - a good variety and you were safe eating it! The hostesses brought our drinks to our table and took any orders (not so in the Indra as we found out). The hotel hosts a cabaret show of 'Ladygirls' and so no worrying about how to get there. To order a taxi through the hotel was much more expensive than hiring a tuk tuk (300 bahts as opposed to 80-100) but we knew where we were going in an air conditioned vehicle and were happy to pay the extra. All in all a good value for money hotel. We enjoyed it and would go back again.

Not Bad

Stayed in the Asia from April 8th - 11th. Not bad. The room was old but it was clean and I especially liked the shutters on the windows. The A/C worked great. The staff were very nice. We didn't eat here...my Tai girlfriend said too spensive so we ate in the restaurants nearby. I was in Thailand a month and I stayed here the last 3 days. It was cheap and decent. I would stay here again and as a matter of fact I am going back to Thailand in 2 weeks for another month so don't be jealous!

Not a good value

This place has a good location-right smack in the middle of Bangkok's best shopping areas. It's also directly on the skytrain. We chose this hotel-since we wanted to go to the weekend market at Mo Chit and do some serious shopping. For this hotel, the negatives outweighed the positives. The rooms are dark and depressing. Decor is stuck in the late 70s. The staff was not helpful. The shower curtain kept falling down and the bathroom floor flooded with water. Not a clean hotel. The breakfast buffet was not very good. There are so many other good affordable hotels- i wouldn't stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Things to see in Bangkok If you are going to the Grand Palace ladies cover your shoulders or you will be made to wear something that resembles prison issue shirts. They stop you as you enter so you will need to adhere. Scarves and sarongs draped over shoulders are not acceptable as we found out. Wat Po and the reclining Buddha is worth an hour as is the Thai massage school next door. Take a tuk tuk but dont pay more than a few baht for each journey as they do tend to try it on. The market stalls on the pier where you catch the boat to Wat Arun are really good with cheaper prices and nice quality souveniers. The ferry to Wat Arun is only 3 baht (the tuk tuk men try to charge 200-500 baht). Suan Lum night bazaar is fantastic with over 3000 stalls (bartering skills at the ready), and great street vendors with lovely food amazingly cheap. MBK near hotel Asia 6 floor shopping mall with everything from clothes to art galleries to thai massage. Patpong for red light district bit of a laugh.

Thai Burma railway Take a trip to the Thai Burma railway and museum. About 2 hrs away, we went through our our operator.
