a good 4 star hotel
from TaniquanAmari is beautiful but be warned!
from tintin79Great Hotel!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe got an upgrade to a deluxe room (from superior) by staying for 3 nights. Upon checking-in, there wasn't any connecting rooms left and because we insisted on staying side by side, the staff upgraded us to a exec club room on the 31st floor (w/o club benefits though). Attached are some pics of the room.
I strongly encourage that you opt for a deluxe room as it is on the higher floors (19 to 30) with the furniture and settings being much newer and nicer. The rooms themselves are big (abt 42sq m). Breakfast was standard (like most hotels) and the clark hach gym was good.
As for shopping in the Pratunam area, prices are about 20 percent cheaper than what you probably get at the MBK area. However, as they are wholesalers, be prepared to buy items in 3s so as to get the quantity discounts. Prices for a top goes for 160 baht and pants/skirt between 199 to 250 baht. Accessories go as low at 20-30 baht. The more you buy, the more discounts and bargaining power you will have. Gucci ad Coach knockoffs are rampant.... they even sell them right outside the boutiques at gaysorn plaza..sheesh..so becareful with what you are buying.
Also, do not pay more than 70 baht for a taxi ride from the hotel to any where should the drivers insist on charging a flat rate... the usual "opening price" is 100 baht.
On the downside, the housekeeping always get the items mixed up. When i asked for extra soap and a laundry bag, they gave me the toiletries and tea bags. I guess you have to be a little patient due to the language differences. Also, the building facade needs a paint job badly!
Overall, this is an excellent hotel and i strongly recommend it! Cheers!
Great Hotel
from ayctBuffet Breakfast selection was good but the only disappointment for me also happened in the restaurant, nothing to do with the hotel itself but the Russian Guests they have staying. They are rude and arrogant, push themselves around, bad mannered and queue jump.
My wife had the Spa in the hotel, which was top class and highly recommended.
Overall, the hotel is excellent, just don't go near the Russians!
Fantastic hotel
from caz1949Breakfast was included in the rate and was out of this world so much choice.
Staff were very attentive and helpful.
Location was good markets and shops nearby and not far from the skytrain.
Would recommend this hotel highly and would love to stay there again.
True 5 Star Hotel in the heart of the shopping district
from AustraliaMiloOur room was the standard room, I think they call superior but the cheapest you can get and it was very large compared to the other 4-5 star Thailand hotels were had stayed at. There is a huge desk and seperate table, lounge area and the ensuite, wardrobe and bag storage area are seperate from the bedroom. The view from our room was spectacular.
Right in the heart of the shopping area - everything is in walking distance. Were were there 5 nights and did not have time to look through all the shops in the one block! Day markets are right outside the hotel and night/weekend markets only a short distance - the hotel staff are ready and waiting to call a taxi and put you inside after confirming to the driver where to take you.
The service is oustanding. The guest relations desk offers help for everything from where to buy what, maps, how to get where etc etc.
I would highly recommend this hotel with the only disadvantage being the road that must be crossed. It seems like a main road and Thai's don't believe in stopping at zebra crossings so it is best to wait for a brave local and cross as they do.........because I held my breath every time we had to go out. There is a walkway overhead but it would add about 10 mins to your walk depending on which way you were headed.
If I were to stay at Bangkok again - although I loved this hotel, I would consider staying at a hotel that was in closer proximity to the airtrain - as this is a cheap way to travel around the town and feels much safer at night that walking back in the dark.
Overall though fabulous and highly recommended.
Well Enjoyed

hard to fault - top notch!
from A TripAdvisor MemberTrue 5 star hotel in a great area away from the tourist ghetto of Patong, with plenty of markets and department stores and food outlets literally outside the hotel. Pool area great, restaurants true touch of class and service top notch. Big gym plus very up-market, but a little expensive, in-house spa.
Our room was huge. Great views and lovely bathroom. About the only complaints would be the bed was ultra firm (unlike Westin's Heavenly Bed program) and considering the room size, there was no microwave - there was more than enough room for a kitchenette of some description. The breakfast, at 600 baht, was expensive.
These small issues aside, the hotel was an oasis of calm in a sea of South East Asian chaos!
This hotel is good!
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe location of the hotel is superb for those who are looking for a vast array of nearby shopping and easy access from a transport point of view.
Unfortunately on departure we left an important item in a bedside drawer and only noticed it's loss upon arrival home. Adding to our favourable impression this year was the wonderful and quick response by the hotel to a plea to have the item couriered to us in New Zealand. Thank you once more Amari Watergate. We recommend this hotel to those who are looking for a delightful hotel experience.
Top Local Tips for Bangkok
Getting around Stay near a Sky Train station, either in Sukemvit, or Silom area. Will save you a lot of headaches.
arriving and departing the amari watergate if you are arriving into bangkok and staying at the amari watergate call or email about getting them to send a limo for you,it saves having to wade through all the taxi drivers at arrivals and its a fair price for a nice bit of air conditioned comfort for the 30 minute ride from the airport to the hotel
Platinum Shopping Platinum shopping centre is a wholesale shopping mall. Small alley ways of mainly womens clothes, shoes & accesories. ALso some mens, childrens and home wares. If you prchase 3 or more of anything, you get a discount, so ask. Some prices are clearly marked for purchasing 1 product or 3 and more.
