Top Local Tips for Bangkok

Visiting Bangkok Do the Grand Palace visit but it is very commercialised outside the actual walled area and it costs 250 baht each person (about£4 each) beware fake guides outside the walls you do not need them once you are inside there are real guides if required. There is a ferry service on the river that takes you around all day much like Sky Train (which is brilliant) and you can get on and off as often as you like costs only £2 (120 baht) per day highly recommended (Sky train is exactly the same cost for a day). Not all boats are participants in the scheme so try and select the same company as you booked with when they turn up at the jetty. They are fast and big but not too comfortable as you are sat on plastic bolted together garden chairs!!! But hey this is Thailand.

How to avoid Gem Factories.... If you want to avoid being taken to a Gems Factory, try not to take a street taxi. Pick your taxi up from front of your hotel and stress before you go in, that you do not want to visit a Gems Factory. We used taxis all the time from the hotel and luckily it was just once we got taken to a Factory....partly because our driver couldn't speak a word of English and we couldn't speak Thai - communication was the problem!
