Great Hotel
from Joe1The pools were really good and great access to the beach. The sellers hovering on the edge of the beach were a bit annoying, but not too much of an issue as they aren't allowed onto the private beach. Couldn't swim in the sea as September is the start of the monsoon.
Food was quite good - perhaps room for a little improvement... Had a private dining on the beach - very romantic, good food although a little pricey.
Staff wonderful and extremly helpful - wish they were more like this in England!
Spa was excellent value for money and the staff here seemed very well trained.
Lovely hotel pity about front desk staff!
from fussyladyWe had a huge problem the first night. When we arrived I could hear a loud humming noise and was assured that it was from the pool area next door and would finish at 7 p.m. so we accepted the room. We ate in the large restaurant downstairs but as I had a migraine I did not last too long as their was a cultural show which I was told was very good. On arriving back at the room the noise was horrendous so I thought it was the air-conditioning. By the time my husband returned I was in tears. He called through to reception and asked if they had a different room. We were promptly moved to a room in the centre of the hotel which was silent. They were not surprised as rooms 317, 217 and 117 are next to the condensor or some such thing which makes a terrible noise. The next morning I complained to the Front Desk Manager who apologised and said he would sort something out for us. I am not sure what as nothing was done for us at all.
The hotel is beautiful and it has a very smart restaurant on the first floor which was excellent although quite expensive. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice and you could have a cooked breakfast as well. The pool and beach area is great with very comfortable sunbeds and very helpful pool staff. They just need to sort out the front desk staff -everyone else was excellent.
It is very convenient for the airport (about 15 minutes) but the front desk staff had not booked us a taxi as requested and one of the drivers took us and called his friend to collect the people who he was supposed to be collecting about 15 minutes later. Also the front desk said we had to be at the airport about 3 hours before the flight - rubbish 2 would have been more than plenty. Consequently we missed out on breakfast and they gave us a picnic one but did not include any drinks! If they only sorted out the front desk the hotel would be superb.
Lovely room but
from BarnabyTravellerThe only donwfall of the room was that it felt damp ( probably due to humidity) and their was a slight musty smell and the odd cockroache!
However I arrived to a bottle of sparkling wine and a plate of fresh fruit. Bathrobe and slippers provided too.
The meals were OK but service ,although attentive not very effficient
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The spa was clean and relaxing and provided good service with a variety of massages, reflexology, body wtaps and steam room available. All at a much cheaper price than you would pay in UK.
On the beach the traders are a bit of a nuisance but they are not allowed to come beyond the line of the palm trees. The pool was lovely and the option of bathing in the sea is another great attraction as there was a life guard on duty.
The prices of drinks were the most expensive I encountered on the island even the 5 star hoterl I stayed in in Columbo was cheaper. But the beach bar which belongs to another hotel was very good value for drinks when on the beach or for a lunch time snack.
A very pleasant stay.
Lovely hotel, the dining could have been better
from AnneMowI had read great reviews of The Beach so had high expectations. We were tired and hungry on arrival - after travelling from Galle, it was 3.30 and the restaurant had finished lunch so we had "room service" sandwiches which were really nice -but it was not a good start
Our rooms were really nice, huge, with a superb walk in shower room, a big round bath, and a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea just beyond. The room boys were very good and looked after us very well.
The sun loungers are on the beach and so there is a tendancy for sand in the pool. The pool was really nice but maybe not quite 5*
The dining area is really nice because it is open air, but it could sometimes felt a bit like a canteen! The staff often got the breakfast orders a bit mixed up and things were just not quite as perfect as they might have been. We only ate there once in the evening and it was good, buffet style set out outside, with lots of choice.
We ate out locally the remaining evenings and enjoyed that.
At lunchtime we ate in the nextdoor hotel's pool bar, it actually looks as though it belongs to The Beach - and it is another Jetwing Hotel.
I'm pleased we went, it was the last bit of our holiday and we chose The Beach to be nearer the Airport ready for going home, I would go again, but maybe only for one or two nights at the start or end of a holiday.
Mixed Experience
from DTDpeace
from billanddenFood was excellent and beautifully prepared and presented with lots of choices and we found no issues with the service at all.
Only room for improvement was it was so quiet and low key there was nothing to do at night and no entertainmemt not even music in the bar to listen to on most nights and it would have really added to holiday if music was provided and the space made for dancing.
overall a would recommend it ofr anyone at the end of a tour wanting to relax before coming home but not for longer than afew days
Delightful And Beautiful!
from A TripAdvisor MemberFab!
from DS9The Beach is an excellent hotel. It is in Negombo which is only 30 min from the airport (another bonus as all of the other resorts were 3-4 hour drives after a 12 hour flight!!).
Negombo itself is nothing special and I would recommend avoiding most of the places to eat on the strip, except for Lords which was pretty good. The reason for this is the food at the Beach is amazing! Definelty 5 star and the choice and varaition daily means you don't have to go any further. We tried a few other places but quickly realized that the food at the hotel was the best by far. Also go B&B rather that half or full board. The price for meals is much cheaper this way. We ate in the hotel every meal for a week and had all our drinks (maily beer) and the total was £200.
The beach hotel offers amazing accomodation, all rooms have a sea view and are looked after to a very high standard. The staff could not do enough to help (offering beach candelit dining at no extra cost, ice brought to the room etc.). They never expected a tip and were very friendly and helpful. On this holiday you can do as little or as much as you want. (Lots of day/2day trips etc).
The hotel is beautiful with a pool and spa, the pictures displayed on this site reflect exactly what it is like.
I liked this hotel and location so much that my best is now getting married here next Febuary and we can't wait to go back.
Simply Beautiful
from ChigleyThe restaurant staff were always attentive and helpful. Some nights the service was a little hit and miss but it really wasn't the end of the world.
Whilst there I lost one of my Diamond earrings. The assistant manager pulled out all the stops to help me find it and two days later it was returned to me. I can't thank them enough especially 'Ranga' who found it!
We had a fantastic honeymoon in Sri Lanka and would definately go back, the island was amazing, the people were very friendly and the Beach was simply gorgeous!

Tuk Tuks Arrange a trip in a Tuk, Tuk..... (three wheels cab!) Before you get in the tuk tuk, comfirm the cost for the trip. Average return trip from hotel cost 400 rupee's ( £2.00 ) . Dont pay up front, always on return, they will hang about for you whilst shopping.
Driver We hired a driver for our trip and he was absolutely brilliant , cheap , no hidden extras no agendas.. We had absolute trust in him very early on. If anyone is looking for a driver they should contact him. His name is Mervyn Michael and his number is 009412942329. He does work for a tour company at the moment so he is official.
Restaurant Bijou The restaurant Bijou is great for a bite to eat. Under Swiss management, it is is hardly appealing to the eye, but the speakers play great music and the food is wonderful. The menu is composed of Swiss-German, classic European (spaghetti) and seafood dishes, and is good value.
