Top Local Tips for Negombo
Great place to start or to end the holiday in Sri Lanka Negombo is the closest community from the Colombo International airport with a great beach. It takes about 15-20 minutes to go from hotel to airport. In contrast, it takes more than an hour to reach downtown Colombo with slow traffic and mutiple check points. For those come to Sri Lanka for holiday, this is a much better place to start or to finish. Skip Colombo!
Don't except a first offer! If you need to take taxis expect to be given a silly initial quote. Whatever price a trishore or taxi quote you, it's often about 200 rupees to much. So feel free to suggest another price. Also check out Browns Beach hotel for dinner and if you go to Colombo Majestic City Mall is ok but not great. Instead go to teh Big Odel and Mondi and Crescat for shopping. Email me if you want addresses etc...
tuc-tuc A tuc-tuc is a great way to get around and a drive will take you on a few hour tour for about a 1000 rupees (£5) it's a great way to see Negombo but be prepared to be taken place you don't want to see and every where you go people will want money!!!
