Top Local Tips for Seoul
Subway is the way to go! For able-bodied budget travellers, take the subway. Takes you almost everywhere in Seoul for a very reasonable fare. e.g. from Incheon Airport, it costs only 4,200KRW or USD4 to get from airport to downtown. Compare this with the airport limo bus KRW13,000 or a cab for KRW75,000!
Korean Folk Village Great place to spend a day with children. Take the Metro - exit Suwon station on line 1 - it's about an hour south from central Seoul. Once in Suwon, you can get tickets for a free shuttle bus at the Tourist Information Center, take a taxi for about $15 USD, or a local bus. (Taxi takes about 30 minutes, local bus twice as long.) Don't pay an agency for a half-day or full day tour to get there- the Metro is easy, safe, and you get great views of the outskirts of Seoul since the train is above ground most of the way. Well worth the effort to get there, especially if you have children - miine are 12 and 9, and they didn't want to leave at the end of the day!
